Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
I still think a Speed6 could be a nice option. Saab 9-3, g35x would be sweet or maybe a maxima which is kinda a cheaper fwd version of it. You have so many options in that price range if you go used, sonata, fusion, is300, too many to list...

Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!

Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
I really love my legacy just doesn't have all the features I want like aux dock, so try and get a 07 and up if you end up with a t-leg.

Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
Drove a 2004 330CI auto, it was great but not that comfy.
Next I drove a 06 acura TL auto, it was fantastic, so comfy very responsive even the salesguy said they were about dead even straight line, which it did feel like, but it was a lot more comfy than the bmw and the seats had a lot more side support. Gonna drive a few more cars yet. I thought I was sold on an auto car until I got back into my honda then shifting was more fun, so I think I'll try and drive 2 of the same cars with each trans. maybe. But to be honest driving an auto that has decent power might be perfect for a DD and actually I was hitting some corners with the bmw and it was nice to just concentrate on turning the car. |
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
For DD the auto is king man. I had two manuals in my evo and honda, and for a while it was great. But now that I have an AUTO for dd, its so much more relaxing sitting in traffic etc.
If you are not trying to get one car to do it all, don't make sacrifices, get a straight up DD car with auto and all the comfy stuff you can get for your budget. Then you will love your fun car that much more as you get a lot more contrast and you can appreciate just how much fun the fun car can be if that makes sense. All I know is having a slow ass car for DD makes the evo seem a lot faster to put things into perspective...which actually helps me a lot not want to mod it. When I drove the evo a ton I got bored really fast and kept modding really fast. Just some food for thought. |
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
^lol thanks.
I don't know if I can get any slower than my current civic, but I'll tell you shifting gears in the civic as soon as i pulled out of the sales lot was fun and having control over the car was nice, it wasn't terrible by any means to wait for the auto to shift in traffic though. Going to try and find a TSX and see if the 4 cyl is nice as the v6 to drive, the mileage is terribly different. I think 21/29 for the TL and 22/31 for the TSX |
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
lgt transmissions are only as weak as the owners driving them, unless you get the auto those are bullet proof. have you had a chance to drive one yet?

Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
I think if you search hard enough on the interwebs, you're going to something that is wrong with every car, and most likely the people that speak out about it are the ones with the most problems. Think about all the people who aren't on forums or dont have a car with problems so they dont post about it.

Also, for what its worth, the new legacy 2012/2013 I was looking at buying was a considerably worse car that the top 3 I ended at and much worse than the car I ended up with (suzuki). The new kia optima and hyndai sonata felt 100x better than the new subaru. I even took my dad and buddy back to make sure I wasn't comparing it unfairly for whatever reason and they agreed they were in different leagues. The legacy was boring, interior was lacking and the ride wasn't great. I do remember the older legacy gt's around 2007 I seemed to like a lot more. Maybe it was because i was in the base legacy but it was pretty rough for the price tag. If you haven't try out the hyundai, great boring DD in my opinion :) |

Brown - Have you read through Murlo's $15k DD thread? It's surprisingly identical to this one.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/forums/sho...ghlight=%2415k My personal advice, if this is truly just for a DD car, you'd be better of with something newish with a warranty than a more used "luxury" car. A lot of times the newer econoboxes have just as many, or more, features than luxury cars from 5-10 years ago. |
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
Yeah I want this to be more of a DD, than a luxury car.
I found a few nice civics, tsx's even, shouldn't of gotten bored at work. |

Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
Buy a grand prix with 70k miles for $7500. Then drive that bitoch til whenever and you wont break the bank. Out of curiousity, why are you looking to spend that much on a DD? Not that its crazy expensive or anything, but i know you've been dying to get an evo so why not buy a cheaper dd that will be exactly what it is? just a to and from car. imo i'd save my money get a good, not luxury dd and save whats leftover for the car you've been enamored over.
ps i drive a 2005 grand prix gt, cloth seats, factory radio (no bose) smooth as hell driving. dependable as all hell. and i spent a whopping 6k on it with 60k miles. this is just me, but hey its simple and it works. plus without spending tons of cash or getting a $10,000+ loan I have all that extra cash to drop on the evo or save up for another project :D |
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
How about something like a 2000 Honda Civic?
|
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
99-00 Civic EX would be the ultimate DD for me.
|
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
Id love a mid 2000 civic, but their interiors are horrid. Anything older will be rusty for sure..
These threads are hurting my brain. |
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
Other than possibly burning some oil, he already has a good DD. Don't buy anything and save cash.

Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
My parents had 2 Grand Prixs, a 1999 and a 2001. The '99 was a great car, the '01 had constant issues.

I did drive an acura TSX yesterday and I loved it, it was a lot lighter and nicer to drive than the bigger, heavier TL. With that said it was strangly roomy in there and wouldn't hesitate to buy it if I had kids. Although the crash ratings are a bit on the low side. ('08 with 62k miles for $15,200) I drove an 07 legacy and it was great and to be honest if the salesguy wasn't 350+ I'm sure I would of liked it a bit more, but I would say 05-08 legacy is very nice, I'd like to have one with nav and moonroof though. ('07 with 92k for $12,xxx) I also drove a 2011 legacy limited, they messed up the price and had it for $15,388 instead of 17,xxx they have it for now, but it did have 52xxx miles on it. It had the CVT transmission which was kinda weird. However this was a really big car and I didn't like it that much. I missed a 2006 civic ex-l, fully loaded with nav, sunroof, heated seats, etc with 65k miles for $10k. I'm gonna wait around for a good deal and just drive my car, hopefully spring comes soon and I can address the leaks and burning oil. It takes me a while to work things out since I have to work them out by myself, but it's probably best if I don't take on any debt before buying a house. Thanks. |
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
older used benz? they tend to not have alot of miles on them because the oweners constantly buy a newer better one within 3 years.

Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
All good then. As long as it's insurance's problem and not his.
|
Re: DD shopping. $15k,GO!
No idea if the other cars it also took out all had full coverage or if if they just got screwed. I thought it was BS. And hopefully his rates didn't go up due to him having to make a claim on his own insurance totalling his brand new car.

I guess he bought the car with no motor for 6k, put a stock motor in it, twin disk clutch and misc other little shit and had it for sale for $13k, then $12k, then $11k until someone offered him $10k and he came back and said $10,200 and it sold right away. |
