I'm not going to lie, those Caliber SRT-4's are kind of nice and I'd think about getting one for a daily. Seems like they could make for a pretty fun daily.

This is a pretty awesome thread. I've been looking at trucks around the same price, maybe I should make a truck thread haha

See you Saturday, I'll prolly be lazy and sleep in so I'd think around lunch time I'll head to your dealer to start the day.

Yeah, for my daily, the last thing I wanted was another 5-speed go car. It's nice having something different, that way, when I get the itch to go fast and take cloverleafs at 55mph, I jump in the GSX. When I want heated seats, power everything and 14mpg, I drive the Hoe-hoe. :D

I called down there this afternoon. They told me they had an appointment on it this evening. I'll see if it got sold tomorrow morning, or of it's still available.

If you're referring to the 2.0T coupe or the v6 that you can slap e bay turbos on an be well over 400WHP - they're both RWD.

Whatever you buy, please don't slap on an eBay turbo.

Re: Need New DD...~15k

So, drove 4 different cars at White bear with Bobby. Thanks again for showing them to me, helped give me some ideas and narrow the search a bit!

Drove:
2012 Ford Focus
2011 hyundai sonata
2011 toyota corolla
2011? mazda 3 (2.5L w/6 speed)

I will say this, I was the most unimpressed with the mazda, it was sporty but for what I want it was more expensive than the others and the interior was pretty meh.

The corolla was very basic, about what I'd expect out of an econobox for the 14.5k or whatever it was. It seemed like a very good DD though. However made me realize I want a bit more out of a 2012 car.

The focus had lots of stuff, blue tooth and sync system. Honestly, this car was pretty fun and peppy and gets 40mpgs! It has a twin clutch too and frankly, the only downfall was its small, and a bit cramped. The interior was pretty good otherwise, like quality.

The hyundai surprised me, seemed very good. Gets 35mpgs, plenty of room, blue tooth and drove rather nice. Still peppy enough for a 4 cyl. It had a USB jack so that is cool too. I liked it a lot actually and loved the space in there.

So, still not sure what the heck I want, but the focus and hyndai sonota were pretty solid and would be good contenders for what I want I think.

mazda speed 6

2.3 turbo AWD. 6 speed manual. dual climate control. torque all through the power band.

a friend of mine has one and he loves it to death. so do I.

and stay the fuck away from anything dodge. especially those calibers. complete garbage. actually less than garbage. cant stress enough of how bad dodge is latley

The sonata is a solid choice, my uncle has one and loves it. He puts a ton of miles on it too for work. Altima might be another good one to check out, but is more money than the sonata. The Cruze ECO has been getting killer reviews too.

I was just reading a car and driver and they rated the kia higher, same car but the kia has a lot nicer interior and comes with every option possible on those cars at no extra charge. I think they look great too.

Kracka 09-24-2012 01:08 PM

Re: Need New DD...~15k

^Definitely. If you like the Hyundai, also check out the Kia version since they're the same cars, but Kias are generally cheaper and include more standard options.

Re: Need New DD...~15k

My opinion, they both have their ups and downs. Overall I equally like them in the end. They have really stepped up their game and make some nice cars now. I've been comparing these along with the fusion and malibu when I get them as rentals for the last couple years now as possible new cars for my wife to replace her Mazda 6. All the ones I've driven were 4cyl. Heres my thoughts on them.

Optima: better exterior, interior feels dated, rear seats uncomfortable, drove really nice.
Sonata: decent exterior, much nicer/modern interior, heavy gas pedal makes accelerating from a stop kind of lurchy.

My personal favorite all around so far has been the Malibu, for whatever its worth. Doesn't stand out in any one category, but overall I like it as a whole more than the others.

Who is giving the Cruze good reviews?! It's a fucking Daewoo*. I've read nothing but bad things about them, from recalls, to transmission failures.

*Okay, technically it's owned by Chevy now. But the old Daewoo plant, and all of its engineers were bought by Chevy - It's still a Daewoo.

Halon 09-24-2012 02:20 PM

Re: Need New DD...~15k

Have you driven a modern Daewoo, or are you judging them by their crap they built in the 90's? They are similar to Hyundai and KIA. They used to make crap boxes but their new stuff is much nicer. We often get Daewoo's as rentals when we are overseas. I'd take one over a Galant or Lancer.

Are they still sourcing their engines from Holden?

I had a Malibu as a rental when I was up in MN last month and you're right, there's nothing amazing about it, but it's a decent all-around basic car.

It really depends on year and application. Modern-day, yes. Circa the year of my POS, the engines were influenced by GM, but build by Holden's foundry (in Australia) using cast iron.

Thought about it, Evo 8 RS comes to mind :)

However, that isn't reliable, nor good gas mileage and will become racecar. I'd have to keep my honda to get that haha.

Really? There seem to be guys with good amount of miles on theres with no crazy issues. Mileage isn't the greatest though.

FRS coupe? I'd hit it!

Yes, I've had this misfortune of driving several of them ranging from the Suzuki Forenza, Suzuki Verona, Chevy Aveo, Chevy Cruze (both non-eco and Eco). The only one I don't really have a gripe about is the new small SUV they're making for Chevy Captiva (it's basically a Saturn Vue/Chevy Equinox) as a fleet only car.

I haven't been impressed by any new GM products I've rented lately except for the Tahoes. The rest are generally crapboxes. I really like the new Fords though, I was most impressed by the Taurus, second the new Exploder.

I would agreed with you. I've been really surprised by those two focuses? foci? that we have. If my evo was paid off, I would buy one in a heart beat.

I was impressed by the new Exploder too. They're quite nice.

Really? I hated driving the one we rented. It stumbled over its self trying to start from a stop every time. It got good gas mileage and was reasonably comfy, but it also had bad blind spots (hatch). Might just be me, or the one I drove, but it was just annoying to drive.

Trogdor 09-25-2012 09:37 PM

Re: Need New DD...~15k

Could just be the one you drove? Was it at 2012? Both of the ones we have here are sedans and run just fine. I was quite surprised by the pick up the car has for a 2.0L.

Your bias gets pretty sickening at times. If it isn't on your lot, then it sucks... until you get one in. This is rating the higher mileage cars as an enthusiast would.
