Aaron needs to stop being such a hatter on subies sure they aren't as "out of the box" fast but they are fun cars.. he's the only one I have ever heard that hates a subi rumble and that's eaily fixable with equal length headers..

Anyways back on topic! This would be sweet I would do the auto x forsure

^This is true. If it has a heat shield it will be allowed. I would think that if you come through tech with a heat shield taped to your massive long runner it would not pass as stock appearing. :)

Re: Proving Grounds 2012

We will work on getting some official rules posted.

This is from last year. It's not real precis.

Stock Appearing Class:

The class is open to 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder cars only. This class is open to FWD, RWD and AWD cars. This class is for the daily driven factory turbocharged & supercharged sport compact cars with original block and cylinder head. This class will be run heads up.

Must have stock frame turbo
Stock Manifolds (Intake and Exhaust)
DOT Radials Only
Must have full interior

I am going to try and refine these rules to help with any questions. I would think that if we open the hood and it appears essentially stock it will be able to run.

We did not allow SMIM's last year.

Jordan didn't allow my tubular ex manifold last year, I even made it so the stock manifold heat shield could cover but he said don't bother. It's not a long tube header or a MAP manifold either. I wasn't expecting to pass tech for stock appearing but I know some other cars did with tubular ex manifolds.

Can't wait for the event next year, glad it is happening!

What was the fastest "stock class" car last year?

Depending upon what the winter brings, I may have a little 6 cylinder that could give a few a run for their money.

Do you allow reconfigured intercooler setups, such as a FMIC on a side mount vehicle?

What about fuel lines and other lines?

Thats BS. You're even running a stock frame turbo right?

I really hope that tech is left to the professionals of BIR and their discretion in 2012. 20 minutes per car was a bit absurd.

I think Bryce ran an 11.4 in his Evo IX.

I suspect there will be slew of cars in the 11.0 range this time.

It's humorous that you think we were the problem. Jed's a great guy but it was BIR that dropped the ball last year as they were supposed to have more staff for tech, Jordan helped as a courtesy to them to speed up the process. Also, do you think BIR's normal tech staff could appropriately class our cars? People are complaining about tubular manifolds and stock appearing turbos having made it through last year even with Jordan in the tech lane.

Re: Proving Grounds 2012

Maybe you could have cars pass through BIR tech get their sticker or whatever saying they passed tech. Then have the car drive down a bit to MAP guys or other car guys which ask the owner of the car what class the person wants to race in. That person can then quickly go over the car and determine if they fit into that class (stock manifolds) or if they have to go up a class.

Also if a DSM has a front mount, automatically make it not stock appearing?

I would tend to think so, but front mounts haven't been disallowed in the past, nor are larger ones disallowed on Evos, etc.

Question: Are the security issues going to fixed this year? By issues I mean over-involvement in basic activities (like going for walks) and exceptionally rude attitudes?

So you're saying you (MAP) had not intended on teching, but BIR's staff was just late on the scene?

I also quite like Brad's idea of having a basic tech, then a class tech controlled by the event organizers.

x2, that should speed things up I would think. Let BIR do what they are good at (or at least what they have a clue about) then let MAP put them in their respective classes.

This. I know some shit went down this past year that I only heard mention of, but security were flat-out dicks to some of us, especially compared to last year (2010) when they were over-the-top cool. Less mall-security-vs-skater-punk and more friendly-peacekeeper please.

Just get a DJ that doesn't play shitty music and isn't 17.

For racing, have you looked at other established events and maybe use a some of their format?

what about some index classes for those that aren't 62mm or stock appearing?

turbotalon1g 12-10-2011 01:59 PM

Re: Proving Grounds 2012

Stock appearing shootout rules:
Three rules for this class.
All body panels must be run.
The turbo on your 1g/2g DSM MUST appear to be a stock turbo for ANY 1G OR 2G DSM and NO nitrous.

GENERAL RULES
-NO nitrous allowed in any class except for TT, B1, B2 and Quick.
-DSE, ESA and EE are classes designed for street cars. These classes are required to run: mirrors, headlights, wipers, full body panels, full interior and full exhaust,
-Full interior includes EVERYTHING except for the trunk area. If you have a roll bar/cage that makes it impossible to re-install the back seats or some interior trim pieces that is OK.

Me too, about 95% sure I am going to be doing the road track over drag this year. Somebody needs to call my car a 'janky piece of shit' again so I can get all pissy and motivated to put in the wrench work...

Sorry I'm a little late to this thread.

FWIW, the Zamp FSA-2 is a full-face, SA2010 approved helmet which retails for ~$170. Some vendors on eBay sell it a bit cheaper; some even have the "Make Offer" option and rumor has it they accept offers of around $115 or $120.

It won't even get to that point, he'll forget to put a fan on it and it'll overheat and blow up in traffic on the way up. :D
