Mmmm car pr0n! That looks sooo sexy. Can't wait to see it back in the car!

What made you decide to go with the new final drive? That's pretty awesome dude :)

I still can't get over how small and cute our shortblocks are. Awwww, it's just a little motor.

Any particular reason you didn't go with new timing stuff?

Kracka 05-30-2011 10:27 PM

Re: SE take two!

Tensioner, pulleys, and water pump should be fine with only 20k miles. The belt will be new.

Never liked the 9's gearing imo too short and going with a stroker and larger turbo that would make the gearing seem even shorter plus as a young lad reading R&T dreaming of someday owning a car that could do 200mph so 190mph seemed close enough plus don't plan on having enough hp to get to 200 but should have enough for 190.

goodhart 05-31-2011 07:50 AM

Re: SE take two!

Could have gone with a TRE 3.73 final drive too. Here's a sweet chart someone made that shows different mph/gear/final drive options, you can play around with it a little: http://forums.evolutionm.net/2087604-post22.html

Either way, this is a bad ass mod.

yah thanks never saw that thread main reason got the 4.11 was Shep was willing to sell it and tre wouldn't as I had a local guy install the gears for a hella deal..

Is that a clutchmasters clutch? You were talking about the FX400 on the cruise right?

Lots of respect for you doing your own work but the colors seem hideous ATM. Hopefully you have a grand vision and it'll look right when your bring it together. :)

Should polish the letters on the valve cover for some contrast

I shoud've got the letters done in black which I'll probably do later down the road. As far as the color choice I got it from a picture I saw of a Ferrari racing engine from the turbo era.

Kracka 06-10-2011 07:52 AM

Re: SE take two!

Black letters would look great, I was thinking that last night too actually. That would be easy enough to change.

The red is a very bright red, not the orange/pinkish it appears in the pictures. I think once it's all buttoned back up it's going to look great in there. You don't see many coated IM's besides black in the Evo world.

Well more progress today and once again it was hot as hell outside but no problem with the AC maxed inside and fans directing cold air into garage!! Laramie and I got the Engine all ready to be put in and away it went in!! Chris came by later got fuel rail injectors and bunch of other small stuff on. Now to figure out where all the fucking connectors on the wiring harness goes  All kidding aside it getting real close.I cannot stress too much how thankful I am to have to have such good friends helping in this project!!!!

Re: SE take two!

Awesome progress today! Glad to be apart of this build for sure. Post some pics of the EF3 ;)

Things to do:
1. order new front o2 sensor
2. order some shifter cable bushings so we don't have to reuse the crap mush rubber ones
3. look up the ACD bleeding how-to
4. buy some break-in engine oil

Kracka 06-19-2011 06:29 PM

Re: SE take two!

Since I know you don't want a clunky shifter:
http://www.maperformance.com/works-h...1.200-202.html

front o2 sensor - Denso # 2344741 - $48.41 shipped w/discount code (expires today!) from RockAuto

Re: SE take two!

^^Are those WORKS bushings better than the aluminum ones everyone else buys? What's the difference in 'feel' like?

Kracka 06-19-2011 06:35 PM

Re: SE take two!

I used the brass ones from Speed-Source in my DSM's & IX and have the WORKS ones in my X. They feel nearly identical, the difference is just the noise. With metal bushings you hear the clunk-clunk noise as you shift, the WORKS bushings don't add any noise over stock but are still very firm and precise. I've used and like both, mainly it will come down to personal preference.

I don't like aluminum bushings though, they tend to bind and seize in the shifter cable rings and require far more frequent lubrication. IMO, go with polyurethane or brass.

Re: SE take two!

Just a 16G, right? ;)

Stuffing big wheels into stock compressor covers FTW (as you can see, Andrew opted against the anti-surge cover)!

To add some detail, it's a MAP EF3 w/HP WGA, ported by PPI, coated by SPC.

goodhart 06-19-2011 06:39 PM

Re: SE take two!

Hmm, ok. FWIW the brass ones in my 1g were seized to the point of no return. But then again they had probably been in there since the scheides days of that car (~10 years old)

I'll probably go with poly ones myself then. :D

Andrew- No bad ass looking anti surge housing huh?

Kracka 06-19-2011 06:41 PM

Re: SE take two!

He wanted to keep his Perrin turbo inlet pipe and go with the stock-apprearing compressor cover.

Figured it won't surge anyway because of all the ported plus bigger displacement. Also those covers are way too loud sounds like a freight train lol...Also like the wolf in sheeps clothing!

Re: SE take two!

Pretty sure I'm getting a BBXLite or EF2 (vs. FP Green) for that very reason, anti-surge cover whistling is irritating as hell during part-throttle daily-driving.

Getting close! This car should be taking us to lunch on Saturday :D

People at work complain that my car whistles at them when I drive through the underground parking ramp. :D

Speaking of MAP turbos, they have an EF2 car on the dyno right now...

TA DA!

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/.../IMAG03101.jpg

We got this bitch running today :D The engine bay will look 100x better once he gets the exhaust manifold heat shield coated. I'm really liking the red theme though (valve cover, intake manifold, intake pipe, & battery tray), it's a great contrast to the silver paint.

Looks really nice. Cant wait to see what it puts down with maps new turbo. Did it take you guys to lunch then?
