Awesome. I'll have to come down there again and turn more wrenches.

I also noticed you weren't there.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Been a while since I've posted (again). I'll be posting a lot of pics. But the good news is after about 30 hours or so of fixing broken wires on my wiring harness I acquired and mating it to the chassis. It turns over, has a working stereo, primes the fuel pump, has working door locks and windows, has working turn signals/brake lights/etc. The STi HVAC controls even work! Hell even the clock on the dash works, even though that's getting replaced with an ATi gauge pod.

At any rate, after a very rough week of digging through 2 wiring diagrams it seems to have paid off. The wiring harness was soldered, heat shrinked, zip tied and then electrical taped on every wire I swapped/spliced. So it should be good for a long time :)

Anyway off to bed, tomorrow morning I'll get some gas in the tank to see if actually runs. If it does... expect to see it on the cruise as promised... game Blouses.

Also wanted to thank Spaz for his help, one of the few people that have made it out to lend a hand and he's been quite a bit of help. Thanks man!

You're welcome! It's always a good time, especially when things go as well as they did last night.

I might swing by again tonight after work, I'll give you a call and let you know what's up.

Yep, all he'll have to worry about are couplers popping off... or electrical fires.

She'll be ok :). Fucking test mode jumpers.

Tomorrow's agenda.
1.) post pics
2.) get wiring 100% complete, it's 90% right now.
3.) modify power steering lines
4.) get fmic installed.

Pics as promised.

Finished product, before taping with rest of the wires.

The cluster eff of wires I had to organize. Basically went through pulled all of them tight, checked for broken wires, then zip tied a few inches at a time.

Wiring job on the door harness.

After securing wires of the door harness.

Initial routing of the wires, keep in mind I have NONE of the brackets for fuse/relay box, etc.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4090/...44c404cd_z.jpg

Close to final routing of the wires, using only zip ties. I've secured all boxes, etc to make sure nothing rattles.

And the payoff... close to final product.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I worked my ass off again today and got a lot done.
1.) Got the power steering lines modified and hooked up and PS fluid in the system.
2.) 100% of the wiring is complete and installed, including the sunroof and lights (has the nice new STi fade module when the door is closed).
3.) Got all the holes in the firewall grommeted and siliconed.
4.) Got my drive shaft today and installed it so now it's officially AWD :)
5.) Got the brake pads and installed them.
6.) Got the ECU plate back on and more of the interior finalized.
7.) Got the steering knuckle back on the steering rack.
8.) Tidied up the wiring in the engine bay and installed the sprayer reservoir.
9.) Started figuring out the FMIC kit and installing it.
10.) Boost gauge mostly installed.

Tomorrow I plan on the following.
1.) Tranny fluid
2.) Check the suspension bolts a 5th time to make sure they're torqued to spec.
3.) Get FMIC installed and MAF installed and see if it runs :)
4.) Get fenders back on.

Arriving tomorrow is
1.) New black carpet
2.) STi gauge cluster

The money shot. Dash permanently installed with good panels on and glove box in.

Also just did the math, I have roughly...

150 hours of week day hours + 180 weekend hours into this project so far in only 7 weeks. Just the last 4 days I've put in about 45 hours.

Project is looking good man! Gotta love the subarus and their universalness between cars. If only they made the wiring universal. Isn't wiring a blast tho? I actually do enjoy it.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Do you have the oem carpet or does that have to come out of an STi too?

DoughtCom 10-12-2010 11:42 AM

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Thanks Aaron!

The carpet I'm putting in is OEM replacement brand new, I chose black (not charcoal) because I think it'll look tits with the blue suede seats. I also opted for the smallest insulation to save weight :D

Just ordered some redline from Bill for the tranny fluid with the help of Hughes, so hopefully that'll be put in tomorrow.

Looking good dude!

Let me know if you need any extra help this week. I'd love to see her on the cruise!

DoughtCom 10-12-2010 02:49 PM

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Fucking UPS man didn't deliver my carpet because I wasn't there, arggghhh.

The "good" news is I got a Mishimoto aluminum radiator and radiator hoses, the bad news is I spent another $300. But tonight the FMIC should be good and radiator should be good. All that's left is get tires, install exhaust and bleed the brake lines!

Tachyon, I'm always happy for help, if you're bored tonight let me know!

DoughtCom 10-13-2010 09:54 AM

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

I'll have to take pics of last night's progress but I have some bad news...

"Sarah" will not be on the cruise. I HATE not making goals, but it's time to swallow my pride and do what's best. Considering the engine wasn't even in until about 2 weeks ago I think I've done pretty good.

At any rate the stuff left to do last night required a lot of grinder work and the neighbors wouldn't have liked that. That's what my main setback was grinding the main bumper beam for the intercooler, would have taken 30 minutes of solid grinder work.

Stuff left to do.
1.) Fully install FMIC and piping (about 40% done)
2.) Bleed the brakes
3.) Put coolant in the car
4.) Put tires on the wheels and align it. (which was planned today)
5.) Install the exhaust.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Hey man I think you should look into flipping your intake manifold around and relocating your alternator. It makes for a really clean engine bay with a FMIC. Less Piping.
Here are some examples I found. Im pretty sure its as simple as Turning it around and flopping the injector rails around.
Just some food for thought.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Good point, I will be doing that next Summer. The nice thing about my IM, other than it's plastic and fucking owns at keeping heat out, is my IM is off centered so when I flip it I dont have to relocate anything. I'll be definitely doing that next Summer though.

Other than that, this a video I put up with my current engine problem I think that is caused by a bad front O2 sensor. I talked to Shane @ DB, very helpful and awesome dude, and he agrees with me that's my first step to fix it.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Got my MAP sensor today, tactrix cable is on the way (for future carputer in the GC8) and my O2 is set to come tomorrow.

Other than that, I put in my MAP sensor at lunch, got it to idle a few times and it seemed to figure things out and idles now, at least after it's at operating temp.

I'm hoping a tune, the rear O2 sensor and a boost leak test will clear up all my problems. I'll be putting the interior in today and taking some pics and updating.

Thanks for all the kind words guys!

DoughtCom 10-19-2010 03:32 AM

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Got the carpet installed tonight and all the interior back in. Also got my exhaust/muffler on and new driveshaft bushings on. Gonna put the front wheels on tomorrow after bleeding the brakes again one more time and then put the bumper/fenders back on.

After that it's time to patiently wait for my O2 sensor and tactrix cable to come so I can get the car hopefully fully running.
