He was looking for an O'Reilly store he was supposed to be doing inventory at and while his head was turned looking for it a lady cut in front of him and by the time he saw her it was too late. He swerved but collided at an angle.

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Yeah... women need to stay in the kitchen and get off my fucking streets.

I was braking for a line of cars at a light and she changed lanes in front of me, no signal, obviously didn't look, and I didn't have time to stop. Hughes listed everything that'll need to be replaced, and I'm glad it's not any worse.

On the flip side, everything I could nitpick on the car; the rock chips, the lip starting to come off, and the bent plate bracket are being replaced, and the car still ran fine and tracked a straight line when I drove it from the accident to the body shop.

Sure, it sucks, but it could have been a lot worse, and if I'd been driving the Talon it would have been destroyed.

Definitely! At least the car is still structurally sound and you'll have a sexy new front end.

Glad to hear you're okay! It still sucks that you had to put a car you JUST bought in the shop already. :(

Congrats on the new front end! ;) Shitty way for it to happen though.

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Glad it wasnt too bad!

It will be nice freshening up the front end at least. Where did you take it to get fixed?

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

He took it to Luther's bodyshop I think.

Wanna borrow my stock fmic to get it back on the road, then use the $$ for something better?

cmspaz 03-23-2010 11:03 AM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Body shop already has the car torn down, it's pretty much waiting for Mitsu to get parts to them at this point, so it's a little late for borrowing parts.

And yeah, I just took it to Luther because they were close by I've seen the good work they do.

That sucks. But why did you get an Evo anyways?

Why not?

Kracka 03-23-2010 11:24 AM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

My guess is because Evos are much newer and superior to DSMs in all performance aspects (with the one exception being stock weight). I'm not just talking about power, I'm talking about the whole package since a lot of us like to turn the wheel too.

DSMs are great considering what they are (cheap and easy to mod), but they are not the end-all for performance cars. Oddly enough, advances have been made in the past 20 years :D

This.

Also, didn't want to deal with the necessary restoration on the Talon with all the rust. Just keeping it on the road in that sense has been expensive enough as it is (between broken bolts, cutting crap off the car, and the whole core support fiasco), I have no desire to tear it down and fix all the rust on the frame. It's not unfixable, but I just don't have the time or motivation to put that much effort into it.

Sorry to hear about the accident. That sucks when you just got your EVO. Hope it turns out better than ever.

later,

Consequently, what do Evo 8's and 9's weigh? Wiki says the IX RS weights 2,888, which strikes me as a tad on the light side. Has anybody here weighed their Evo on a set of corner scales?

cmspaz 03-23-2010 01:28 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

I'll actually be putting mine on a truck scale in a few weeks when I go down to Iowa to get a general ballpark. The scale at the power plant in Ames isn't gated off. :D

Just over 3200lbs usually. Add in things like SSL and it weighs a bit more, and any model with ACD. The RS is just under 3200 if I recall correctly.

I believe thats the JDM RS; the USDM RS is only 80 lbs. lighter than the USDM MR which comes in somewhere between 3,200 and 3,300 (will look for exact specs). The GSR SSL is the heaviest Evo made.

t-revzr 03-23-2010 01:39 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

With me in the car it was like 3400 lbs. I do have the ssl tho. Kracka you did not make my day today lol. I dint want to hear that I have the heaviest Evo!

Kracka 03-23-2010 01:58 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Here are some curb weights from Edmunds.com:

IX RS = 3219 lbs.
IX GSR = 3274 lbs
IX MR = 3285 lbs.

The SSL package will add roughly 60 lbs. since it includes a sunroof, sub, amp, leather, and HID's. VIII's typically weigh about 10 lbs. less than their IX counterparts with the excpetion of the RS, the VIII RS is only 1 lb. under the IX RS. The IX GSR SE (aluminum roof skin and BBS wheels save the weight, but HID's add a bit back) will weigh slightly less than the regular IX GSR; the IX MR SE will weigh the same as the regular IX MR.

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Ok, thanks for the numbers, guys. I knew ~2,900 was too good to be true.

Actually if people are interested, I recently bought a set of digital corner scales. They are portable and accurate to 1/10 of a lb.

If you bribe me with a beer, I might be willing to be available with them some evening ;)

Definitely cool! Wish I could take advantage of that offer.

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

I have a vague update because the message I was left was just as vague. Anything in quotes is as much info as I have.

They got "some parts" today. They also found out that reconditioning of my bumper "didn't work" and said something about a "stand-in". When they tore into it to do the core support, they found "more damage", and so it'll take "longer".

I'll be calling for clarification tomorrow morning because I'm not at all happy with the little info I was given.

Kracka 03-30-2010 07:22 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

That's pathetic. When the WRX was in at the bodyshop I was called twice daily with detailed updates.

Ihearrtdsm 03-30-2010 07:54 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

wow shitty, chew them out for that poor excuse of details.

goodhart 03-30-2010 07:59 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Jesus Christ, is it taking them long enough? I would go in there in person and chew someone a new asshole.

That is a bunch of crap

cmspaz 03-30-2010 08:03 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

They didn't get parts from Mitsu until today, so I can't blame them for that, but Jesus fuck they could have at least told me what's going on.

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

^ Body shop fail

When i was bringing my car to the body shop. I didnt even bother bringing it in until they had all the parts needed. For fixing my tree damage. and they called me about once a day to give me an update.

cmspaz 03-30-2010 09:03 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Well, they called me twice, but company policy says I can't be on the phone at work, so he just left that vague message after the second call. I'm probably just going to tell him to call the store if I don't answer my phone next time.

craig 03-30-2010 09:05 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

That's bull shit, they need to get this done or start compensating for loss of transportation.

cmspaz 03-30-2010 09:18 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Yeah, especially considering the spool time in the Talon keeps going up, I may end up having to yank a turbo soon and I'm really stuck without a second car. I'll be checking out the Talon tomorrow, but I'm not expecting it to be something simple.

cmspaz 03-30-2010 10:47 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Never mind on that, the same turbo bolt I had break on me was backing out again. I can't win with that one. Probably time for it to get some threadlocker.

Kevin 1G Drummer 03-30-2010 11:07 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Wow, that's bullshit... When I was working at Fairway, we wouldn't schedule the car to come in until we had the parts in the shop. And that crap about finding "more damage" is also bs. They should have been able to find everything when they did the estimate. I would definitely talk to them about compensation for loss of transportation.

cmspaz 03-30-2010 11:27 PM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Yeah, I'll probably go off on them and see what happens.

On the flip side, if I'm not getting the car back on Friday, I will definitely be calling my insurance company, telling them I think I saw the girl on her cell phone in the car, and get them to pull her phone records, make life a little bit harder for her if I can. Maybe I'll get lucky and she'll actually have been on it. Yeah, I know I'm sadistic, but I've decided it's this or a Molotov since I have her address, and this is a little more... legal.

Kracka 03-31-2010 08:16 AM

Re: Spazzy's new Evo

Why would it matter if she was on her phone?

cmspaz 03-31-2010 09:11 AM
