You loved it, haha. Some days I wish I had an exhaust on the car, but I always find different ways to spend the money.

I saw the vr4 around a couple times too, looked really clean! You still going to St. Thomas?

Over the last week I picked up a new stainless clutch line, an adapter to get rid of the banjo bolt on the fuel filter so I can run -6 an from the filter to the rail (figure every little bit helps), and a new slave cyl/throw out bearing/clutch fork from Nick over at Brookdale. Probably get a new fuel filter before the trans goes back in as well.

Hopefully once I'm done with the J-term, I will have some time on my hands to get the back on the road and break in the trans in. It'll be nice to drive a kinda fast car, even if I can't beat on it.

So you have been driving the car with no exhaust the whole time? I didn't notice you didnt have an exhaust when I stopped over that night..

Good choice on the banjo bolt replacment. My Walbro 255 went from a high pitch hum to a very low drone from just replacing that fitting.

Yep I've had no exhaust on it the whole time. I almost want to throw a stock muffler not connected to anything in the back and pretend like I just have a huge exhaust leak. haha

Yea hopefully with summer blend, the banjo bolt replacement, and the boost a pump I can make a little more power.

Re: Beater 2g

Good luck. I remember when I was just running a dp it was loud as hell and I had to drive to Rockfalls like that.. But the exhaust was cut off right under me so I suppose it was worse. I wanna hear this thing now! haha. If you ever drive past 39th street on a weekend (When im usually home) make sure you give it a good pull!

Re: Beater 2g

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_9769.jpg

Pulled the engine out last night while the trans was still off to make it easier to fix the couple small leaks I had. While its out I kind of thought about possibly building the engine, getting some suspension, better fuel pump setup. I kind of have ADD when thinking of things to buy so I keep going back and forth on what to get

I also don't have a ton of money to play with, so I'd like to keep mods to 2k or below to get ready for summer.

That being known what would you guys recommend? I haven't done much reading on engine building so I feel like a huge n00b so any suggestions with pistions, compression, rods, etc would be very much appreciated!

Kind of want to put the boost a pump I have sitting around in, small shot of nitrous and "Let'R Buck" with the stock 6 bolt. The only problem with this method is I don't seem to have a lot of time on my hands lately to work on the car so once it blew I probably wouldn't have any money or time to work on the poor little guy.

So any suggestions would be great!

Stock bottom end should hold up just fine.

Will that tranny hold a shot?

I plan on doing a single maybe with a KB BAP if needed, my goal is the same as yours minus the power/trap thing

Yea I'm starting to think my power level isn't crazy enough to see a built motor. Maybe someday once I get a real job and out of school.

I just picked up a tre stage 3 this past winter, so I'd hope it can hold the little power I would make. I didn't plan on spraying anything too crazy, first thoughts were to spool quicker but if the fuel is there I'd like to try maybe a 50 shot all the way to redline. I guess only time on the dyno with the BAP will see what ends up happening. I don't even know how much the BAP will even help, haven't seen any body posting any before and after numbers.

What are your goals? You going for times?

turbotalon1g 02-17-2009 06:38 PM

Re: Beater 2g

I am with you on the job thing, so hopefully the next few months will prove good for me.

My goal is to be a bit more laggy than the 16g and be able to pull to 7000-7500rpm since i had to shift at 6600rpm last year.

I don't care how fast this car is, but if i can beat 600s easily it will, be a plus.

Z is what i want to be the fast/fun car, dsm for dd.

OH, pick up a ford gt pump, its a 310 and with a BAP could be good. I hope i am good with a single pump. I don't plan on making enough to need more.

Whats in the stg. 3?

w00t for getting my brake lines today for the abs delete, hopefully I find motivation after this week to work on the hunk of junk.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_0102.jpg

Also had Danny up at DB weld on some -10 bungs onto my valve cover. :)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_0104.jpg

Mounted the bottle and the box should be mounted by the end of the week. Don't mind the pitcher holding the box up.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_9824.jpg

I'm pretty happy with how I mounted the solenoids. I wanted to hide them but didn't really know where to put them. I ended up putting them in my battery box I made which led to the battery relocation. I'm going to make a cover to put over the top of it so it'll just look like a battery box.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_0105.jpg

The ricer in me also wanted to get a new boost gauge.

It's a 10lb bottle. I bought a bottle opener for it so that's why the caps off, I just don't have the actual opener on the bottle in that picture.

Hey Brad, Where do you have your coolant over flow tank at? I have an ETS short route FMIC that sets up pretty much the same as yours and it isn't looking like it will fit under it. Trying to figure out where I want to relocate it to.

I put it where the old side mount piping went. I think I just hacked up the stock bracket and made it work. The wiring for the sensor reaches so you don't have to extend that which is nice.

Can see where it is in that picture. I want to say there was an existing bolt hole there but I could be making that up.

haha I had it laying around from a different car and thought it could help spool my turbo a little bit quicker. I really don't need it and will probably be too much of a pussy to ever really use it but its kinda cool to know its there if I ever had a motor that could take it.

Hey can you take a picture of the kill switch? I'm setting one up and it looks like your is mounted right in the middle. Just wondering how it looks. Also how did you do your alt. charge wire?

Yea you just have to cut it a little bigger and bend the stock bracket. I just looked and I used an existing nut that was already there.

Re: Beater 2g

Well my car hates life. Started the car today just to get disappointed again.

Car started after a couple cranks but seemed like it wasn't running right and was missing a little. I haven't touched anything in the motor since my trans let go so I figured maybe the plugs were old and needed changing, that didn't change a thing.

Once the new plugs were in the car I started it again but it still seemed like it wasn't running right. While just letting it idle for maybe 45 seconds to a minute I saw a little smoke coming from the engine bay and from the back of the car so shut the car off quickly. Then went inside to take a break and scratch my head for a little bit.

When I came back to the car maybe 30 minutes later there was a small puddle of oil under the car. The only place I saw oil was from where the down pipe connects to the 02 housing.

My dad wanted the garage back so he made me pull it out of the garage and I've never seen a car smoke so bad as backing it out of the garage and pulling it over into the third stall.

So my question is what could cause the car to smoke so damn bad?

My guess was:
1. The turbo blew, but it still spun after I shut the car off like normal so I don't really know about that

2. I bent some valves on my stock head when it went from 5500 to 8500 in .12 seconds when 3rd gear let go. The only thing with this one is the car seemed to drive fine when I drove it home without 3rd/4th after the trans let go. I also didn't remember it smoking but I did drive it home at night and pulled it straight into the garage.

I'll try and do a compression test on it tomorrow but after that I'm kinda lost on what else it could be.

Also sucks because between working 35hrs a week, going to school full time, and having to get 40hrs of community service in before I graduate in may wont leave me much time to mess with the car.

I'd love to hear what people think could be wrong with it though and some other test I could do to narrow down exactly whats wrong with it.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the novel!

No good updates. Tried to do a compression test with a neighbors compression tester last week but the battery ran out of juice but the first 2 cylinders looked. I just went out and bought my own tester tho along with a leak down tester so hopefully I can find the time to test it again soon.

Put the turbo back on tonight with the catch can setup and it still smoked a little bit but not anything crazy like it did. I half think it was still burning off whatever oil was left in the down pipe/turbo.

It seems like it idles decent (then again I'm used to an idle of a bone stock audi now so I forgot what a cammed car idles like) but it misses if you try and rev it at all. From Link it says the afr is pegged rich from the stock 02 sensor but I don't know if oil getting all over the stock sensor messed it up. I was thinking of getting a replacement aem sensor sometime this week and see whats really going on with with the afr. If afr, compression test, and leak down test looks decent I'll be at a complete loss at whats wrong with it.

HUGE thanks to Shane for putting up with my car this past Saturday!!

1 radiator, 1 tial clamp modification, a shotty NOS controller and 34psi later the car made 488 and 402 without nitrous.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a1hhafZ2N8

Next is to figure out why the solenoids weren't working properly, and to figure out what I want to do with my motor so I can keep having some more fun with it.

I also want some slicks now. Shanes new slick setup is amazingly light and they just look bad ass.
