Yeah, I was just checking that out, its not showing any of the photos I uploaded. They obviously uploaded somewhere because the two photos of my car in my previous post I just uploaded to the gallery? I'll figure it out. |
Re: project reach-around

I did have a tranny start to make a god awful sound actually on my V8 swap. It had 180,000miles, the last 40,000miles were on the V8. Tons of launches and abuse. What went out was the input shaft bearing on the tail end of the tranny, gears and syncros were perfect. I also had ground control coil overs, and poly bushings in the rear along with the addition of a sway bar. It really helped with bump steer. I have seen people use a front sway bar and some aftermarket endlinks to mount it up in the rear. On that setup it would be best to upgrade the front bar to a larger bar. How has your cooling on the setup been so far? |
Re: project reach-around
fine reallyof course have yet to get he coolant gauge to work but just running in the garage with the rad. fan on it doesnt get overly hot.
|
Re: project reach-around
got the gauges working the new pump goibg and got it liscences today so it can legally be driven. still needs tires but that can wait for spring.

Re: project reach-around
well with jim saying to put a sway bar in, my father did that for me today. the gear in the tranny is bad for the speed sensor so no speedo anymore.
|
Re: project reach-around
You don't need a speedo, just drive next to people and yell out the window to ask how fast they're going.
|
Re: project reach-around
Knowing how fast you're going is for pussies.
|
Re: project reach-around
didnt say it bothered me any.
|
Re: project reach-around
my parents bought me a new 750cfm carb and got it put on sounds even better and revs harder now that the secondaries are opening.
|
Re: project reach-around
sweet. Is it a double pumper?
|
Re: project reach-around
Sweet!
|
Re: project reach-around
been a while but got all new brakes on the car today and some better tires put on it so it can be actually driven. Still have to wire chase and find out why the speedo stopped working.
|
Re: project reach-around
drove the car around town a lil tonight with my handy gps acting as a speedo. so the car needs a bigger radiator and for some reason the rear pass side ebrake is dragging. after those are taken care of more street tuning will take place.
|
Re: project reach-around
Awesome. I can't wait to see this thing!
|
Re: project reach-around
cant wait to be able to drive it without a problem

Re: project reach-around
well I got a mech water temp gauge at work and plugged it in just to check, the sock gauge is completely wrong reads about 100 degrees higher than it should be so the radiator is good. the brakes are better after flushing the system out and then putting return springs on the e-brake arms. The rear pass side still hangs a lil though but not like it was.
my dad has been playing with the carb jetting it up and it ts running a lot better then it was just some playing with is to see what we can do to make it better and start adding timing. |
Re: project reach-around
now go and put miles on it. i want to test and compare
|
Re: project reach-around
carb needs a lot of work before test and compare but we shall soon enough. miles will start to be put on it soon here I heard snow soon though.
|
Re: project reach-around
It was fun driving it last night but that rear caliper pisses me off, so I bout 2 new rotors set of ok pads and 2 new caliper and have them on the car. These are for the front of a late 80's grand am though so I lost the e-brake but I will add a line lock to act as such. the major difference is that the rotors are thicker and are vented unlike the stock rotors.

Re: project reach-around
pic's of the new set up compared to the old ones craig
|
Re: project reach-around
I have them on the camera but that's down in the garage I'll post em later. Need someone to help with bleeding brakes seeming I'm too cheap to buy the vacuum system to do it by myself.
|
Re: project reach-around
just buy the speed bleeders with the check valve in them to do it by yourself it makes it pretty easy.
|
Re: project reach-around
I work at an auto store still too cheap to buy them when I just need another person to help

Re: project reach-around
Nice. What does that thing have for front brakes? And will those rears screw up the bias much?
|
Re: project reach-around
has the same front brakes as a chevette which suck something horrible, as for bias this is a popular swap and have heard nothing of it hurting the braking. I have stomped on the brakes(car will not lock them up to save a life) with nothing but a quick stop and the engine shutting off.
|
Re: project reach-around
Hahahaha a Chevette... I can only imagine how much they suck. Isn't there anything better you can put on the front?
|
Re: project reach-around
yeah but its over a grand to do and a new set of rims no matter what on top of that to fit them.
|
Re: project reach-around
well that sucks :(
|
Re: project reach-around
Well long time no reply but mark killed it using it to drive back and forth to work the last few weeks. Ended up the clutch wasn't enough for the engine so a new one is being ordered. Him and my dad will be doing some other tweaking to it as needed as long as the engine is out. I never drive the thing seeming I need to transport my daughter around and this wont do it at all, So seeming I drove it maybe five times in the last few years it's sad taht its broken already.
Hopefully one day it can be painted and competed to what I wanted it to be but for now new clutch and hopefully back on the road as the loaner vehicle. |
Re: project reach-around
