More proof? Proof of what? My taxes aren't that complicated. I entered in my info from the boxes on my W2, I had the 3 basic deductions (car tabs, property tax, and mortgage interest = appx 17,000 in deductions), and nothing more to it really. I'm not really sure what more proof there is.

They might come after you and ask for physical proof of the transactions, basically audit you.

Re: Tax Returns!

I don't forsee Brandon getting audited since its such a simple return.

Halon 01-30-2007 02:54 PM

Re: Tax Returns!

They can see proof if they want. I just don't get why people are quick to assume I am wrong or screwed up. It's 3 simple deductions, that damn near everyone who owns a house has. Property Taxes, Mortgage interest, and car tabs. Nothing crazy here.

Re: Tax Returns!

I didn't say that you wouldn't get the cash. I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprise if so.
I used to prepare taxes for a few years.I had seen where IRS has restricted cash being dispurse for BS reasons. Allot of time, they are trying to fish for more information to don't make that kind of pay out.

Re: Tax Returns!

Well, I just got done completely. I removed my license tabs from my deductions, since I can't find the receipts. So I'll only get 6169 back now.

Should have it in 8-16 days according to the TaxACT site. Also, I was mistaken earlier about having to send something in. All I needed was my either my PIN or Adjusted Gross Income, and it allowed me to file paperlessly. I will probably use that same software next year, since it was so freaking cheap, and 8-16 days isn't that long, so I'm pretty happy. I'd recommend it to people who are looking to do it online, for as cheaply as possible.

B, I have owned my house for three years now. When do I get to file that into my taxes? That sounds like a crazy return. But hey I get 2000 back for having a kid. So thats nice....hehehe

Still waiting on Target to send me my W-2 and my Wifes from Home Depot.... Last year I filed threw H&R Block for free. And this year they sent me TaxCut Basic in the mail. I am going to check that out before doing something different online.

Re: Tax Returns!

If you own your own home, at the end of the year, the company who your mortgage is through should send you a statement that shows some amounts in boxes, kinda like your W2. It says how much you've paid in interest and what not. You file that as a deduction. Also you should receive a letter from your city or county, that shows what you paid in property taxes for the year. That is a deduction. Also save your receipts from when you updated the tabs on your cars plates. Those are a deduction. Those 3 things added up to 17000 worth of deductions for me. And that amount of a deduction is why my return was so large.

If you're like me and you forget how much money you've blown on tabs for your car you can go here and enter your DL number or plate number:

^^ The web sites footnote states only $35 or less could be used for federal deductions? When I bought my titan, I got charged $4XX bucks and I used that in my 2005 filing. My 2006 tabs for it was $250. If I recall, the tax software doesnot have a limit on amount of deduction.:toiletp:

Jed 01-31-2007 11:14 AM

Re: Tax Returns!

It says:

"the registration tax less $35"

So your $4XX minus $35 is your deduction.

Don't forget this year you get to claim the telephone credit too.

JustROLLIN 01-31-2007 10:03 PM

Re: Tax Returns!

Wait... so I can claim my tabs? And whats this about phone credit? I am useless when it comes to taxes as my parents have claimed me every year before now. So, my prior returns have been VERY easy to file.... Anyone wanna help? What else can I deduct?

Halon 01-31-2007 10:35 PM

Re: Tax Returns!

Pretty much all the tax forms will tell you about the phone credit. Most people will just get the $30 refund. It's not a deduction, it is just a credit added to your refund. If you're doing it online, it will ask you about it.

Jed, I wish I would have known about that site earlier. I tried googling to find a way to see how much i paid, but i couldn't. Ahh well. I just got an email saying both Federal and State have been accepted, and I should have my return back in appx 1 week.

Sorry I didn't get it out earlier. :o Not that it really gets you a ton of money, but an extra 10-30 bux is enough to buy lunch.

Just finished mine... I did better than I thought I would. I'm getting $1155 back for Fed/State.

Hey, since I do not own a home, but rent instead, I am entitled to a renter's refund. Does anyone know when/how I file this? I know its not directly tied into the tax information, but any addtional help would be great. Thanks!

Re: Tax Returns!

You should get a certificate from your landlord. You have to fill out a seperate form from your basic taxes.

That's about all I know though. I've never bothered to send them in...

You are missing out on a lot of money. In TurboTax I just had to fill the amount in, I guess the checks come a lot later, like May - August.

For renter's, it depends on your income. I always made too much, so I always got screwed and didn't get anything back.

I did not know about this, maybe I won't get a check :( Any idea what the income cut-off is?

True. Unfortunately they never seem to end up in my posession so it's a PITA to track down. Oh well.

I will be finally taking advantage of this this year. Yes, you are correct, you will get the check at the time of your county's property tax deadline.

You can file it now or you can file it when your county has their property taxes, it is usually easier to do it now since you have all of your paperwork in front of you.

Ah...cool. So the fact that I did not do the paperwork with my other taxes is no big deal then. Phew... I was worried I would not be eligible since I have already turned in my other tax info. Anyone know where I can get the forms for the renter's refund? I doubt I make too much to not get something back as I only pull down about 40k a year.

If your adjusted gross income was over 49k then you will for sure get zero back if you rent. Even if you spent 20k in rent.

If it's 45k, then you'll have to have more than $1600 as the number on the CRP form to get anything back.

If it's 40k, then you'll have to have more than $1300.

My federal return was accepted today, I will be getting $1300 from them next Friday, the 23rd. And in the next few days when Minnesota accepts the return it'll be another $400.

Too bad it's all for bills and none for fun.
