I'll be the first one to agree that the fact that the Confederate flag has reached this kind of symbolism is kind of stupid. But it is what it is. I wish every person in America could go to school and get a great education and be full contributors to society. That would help race relations a lot. But that too, is just too much pie in the sky thinking. -Curt |
Re: Confederate flag, yes or no?
If the states/governments see it as a part of their history in a positive way, not in the way it's been twisted to mean, they should fly it if they so choose. It hurts no one.

Re: Confederate flag, yes or no?
Food for thought: Should the word/term "Dixie" be considered offensive as well since it is often associated with the Stars & Bars? At what point does it stop?

George Washington owned slaves, some while he was President. Should we tear down the Washington Monument too? Quote:

The battle to remove the flag from at least SC is nothing new, according to this 2001 documentary |
Re: Confederate flag, yes or no?
The Confederate States of America was, among other things, pro-slavery. The main issue that started the Civil War was slavery. To some people, the Confederate Flag represents slavery.
In a democracy such as ours, the government belongs to the people. A state government belongs to all the people in that state. If many black folks feel that the Confederate flag represents slavery, they might feel offended, even excluded and not recognized by their own government. If you believe this a free speech issue, then it should be allowed to have any and all flags flown at a state capital that any group/person wants. Why should the gov't play favorites with symbols? |

Yep, this is what the "pussyfication of a nation" looks like. |

Dad: Son, why are you crying?! Son: The state capitol might take down the Confederate flag and only allow private citizens to fly it. ::SOBBING:: Dad: What's so bad about that? Son: It's part of our state's history?! Dad: So shouldn't it be in a history museum? |
