I don't claim to be fond of drag racing myself, but at the same time after the usual peer pressure I give in, make passes and have a great time, and spend the entire weekend trying to drop my times. |

DSM's are just as good for road-racing as drag. just make sure you have a good running car, give it a different alignment, and maybe some fresh brake fluid with good pads, and you're set! |
Re: Proving Grounds 2012
I will autox for sure this year again, last year it was the first time ever doing it and spaz only beat me out by under a secound. I'm gonna try and run in drag, road course, and autox

Re: Proving Grounds 2012
Just because I'm into drag racing doesn't mean I don't like turning.
I know what its like to do auto-x, i've done a few events and its really fun and why I have been doing more events each year. I don't know how good teh auto will be for the auto-x/road racing stuff, but I'd like a lap on the road race course. |

As long as its a SA/M/K 2005 or 2010. If you plan on doing more motorsport events, I'd strongly recommend getting a good quality and good fitting helmet. You can get a new SA2010 for about $250 pretty easy. http://www.saferacer.com/g-force/?manufacturerid=8 |
Re: Proving Grounds 2012
Has there been any thought to the drag racing classes or any of the other classes?
Or is that info anywhere? Want to be sure some mods I have planned wont get me kicked out of a certain class. |
Re: Proving Grounds 2012
I think its stock appearing, some kind of "real street" basically 62mm max comp. wheel and then quick 16. That is all from memory, but i'm pretty sure that's what it was last year.
Although i'd like to see the rules on stock appearing in regards to tubular manifolds and such. |
Re: Proving Grounds 2012
Stock appearing they let a lot of stuff fly including fp green/red/black with 3" inlets and aftermarket comp covers, tubular manifolds are out but if it looks stock with a stock heat shield that flies as well. The guy I beat with the 335i last year was trying to raise flags regarding aftermarket rods and such and I told him over and over the class is stock *appearing* ....have fun with it and keep everything in the spirit of the event!
|
Re: Proving Grounds 2012
Yea I'm curious about the stock appearing class. It seemed pretty loose last year from what I heard/read but don't know if they are going to tighten up the rules this year or have it the same as last year..

Re: Proving Grounds 2012
beamer guy sounds like a douche. ^Agreed.
IS anyone out there MAP? |
Re: Proving Grounds 2012
That bimmer dude was posting on mnsc about how he was going to kick ass at proving grounds before the event last year. I think he was running like 12.2-ish at the event.

Re: Proving Grounds 2012
Not bad for a bimmer though, he probably won't be so vocal about kicking ass this year though.

Re: Proving Grounds 2012
I don't think I saw any modified intake manifolds or SMIM's but I wasn't looking too hard.
I did see a lot of cast exhaust manifolds that weren't stock, but I think cast manifolds should be allowed to be honest. I can see getting my ass handed to me quite easily in this class, I think there needs to be a middle ground between the 350-450whp cars and the 62mm (700+whp class) |
Re: Proving Grounds 2012
Is that for this year? Where'd you find that info?
I was hoping they didn't have such a restriction on tires :( By dot radials they mean legit radials and not cheater slicks like the qtp, correct? |
