Yeah.... LSnothing, I aint going to be like everyone else who gets a japanese RWD car and decides to drop in a LSx motor. Im going to be like every other mitsu fanatic and drop a 4g6x motor in it :D

Just wait for a while. Let that g54b love insert itself into you. You'll like it. Just find a way to get that turbo up to 18-19 psi.

Re: A real mans DSM :D, Introducing, the Starion

Mmmmmm, 19psi is my kind of style for sure.... Hey, if your not busy friday I might be trying to rewire some gauges and put my turbo timer, and FCD back in since its supposed to be nice out. So if ya wanna come check it out and maybe help me figure out what half the shit is let me know. Ill PM ya my number.

Well, that information is true, but somewhat misleading. The 86 ecu doesn't like it when you raise the boost past 13 or 14 psi, if you can even get there. Yes, you can take out the mass air sensor in SOME of the 86's. some cars don't care and might run better, others might run worse. There is a way to use a 1G mass air sensor with the 86 setup.

The 87-89 ecu, when used in conjunction with a 1G mass air sensor or a 1G maf translator allows for very high boost with no fuel cut (much higher than you could ever get with a 12a or 14g). The 86 does have a map sensor, but no AIT sensor. You can try unplugging the mass air sensor, but I'd wait till you have a wideband installed. Your stock boost gauge won't work either I bet.

The BCD or FCD should fix the boost cut or fuel cut problem. Either way, the 1G MAS would for sure fix it. I'm sure you can't hit fuel cut with a 12A anyway. I never did and remember that my 1987 had the same fuel-cut-happy ignition box.

You have to check what controller you have for the AIC, some of them can be rigged as MPI. That type can control each injector separately so you can make up for the couple lean intake runners and the couple rich ones. I thought TEP sold that kind so it's worth looking into.
If you are ever wantiong to make power; you have to up the size of the turbine wheel. The stock turbine wheel only belongs on the 12A. Even the 14G could really use the TD05H turbine. You an look at Chiplee's cam thread and he will show you that you can't make power on a TD05-20G, even at 25psi+

TEP doesn't do "Race Built Engines". His high-end stuff is JE pistons on stock rods. He doesn't do MPI and doesn't believe in making more than 300hp at the crank. The motor is prolly just a stock rebuild, or a rebuild with Hyper-U pistons. (Hyper-Us for Starquests are horse shit and should be thrown out for stockers)

Re: A real mans DSM :D, Introducing, the Starion

My hypers we fine until I ran too much timing! ;) lol.

In the past, it was generally agreed upon that the reason power fell off at 5k rpm was that the valve springs began to float. Every car, just like clockwork. Then people started putting schneider HD springs in (100lb seat pressure vs. 74 stock) and weren't able to raise their powerband. Then people started realizing, very slowly, that it was the exhaust housing and wheel that was the problem. As soon as you get away from mitsu-based bolt on turbo's you will find that you can make power much higher up and you don't really need HD valve springs till later, maybe when it's time for a cam.

Everyone upgrades the valve springs, it's like one of the first mods. So it's hard to say what can be done with stockers.

You can still use Mitsu housings, just not the stocker. People have had good luck with the Syclone housing and the mitsu 10cm.

oh yeah, and the stock turbo and intake and stuff is good for 13's if you drive well. :) I went 14.2 @ 100mph with a 2.6 60 foot. get a good launch and bam! 13.9s haha.

Yeah, thank go Im not running stock turbo, I have a 14g, Ill push that.

The 14G was the "sport" turbo offered as a dealer mod. It has the same turbine as the 12A.

I've ridden in a 14g car once. It was a purple starion owned by a guy named Jesse. Never saw him again after that. Anecdote finished.

Do you want to tell me anymore about how garbage my turbo apparently is?

Thanks for helping me to get this beast running right. It was a good time. Cant wait for summer tho lol. Ill get up some pics of all my electronics installed, versus hanging.

Re: A real mans DSM :D, Introducing, the Starion

Swung over and took a look at the car, replaced a few wires, fixed the bov so it works the way a bov should. Drained the oil, black as the night, but it's fresh now.

All i have to say is we pulled the plugs..... but when the pics get up you'll all be in for a good laugh.

The turbo has to be a 14g, it's in the 12a housing but it is not the 12a, i've got two of them here in my garage and they WAY smaller in size than the one on the turbo.

But, tune in tomorrow for some awesome pics of the plugs, grab a beer, some Kleenex and be amazed.

Hurry up! let's see the pics!

Re: A real mans DSM :D, Introducing, the Starion

Well here are those pictures Gravy was talking about.

TADA!!!!!! LOOK MA!!! NO ELEMENT!!!!
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/8...0192sp2.th.jpg

But look at those compression numbers, thsoe are out of 140.
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/4262/photo0194jc1.th.jpg

And heres the turbo we assume is a 14g. Well the compressor housing and wheel at least.
http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/3...0190kq3.th.jpg

And the new guage.
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3294/photo0195ec5.th.jpg

So needless to say, after replacing the plugs, the rotor, and distributor cap, I now have my top end back, no more back firing, and she pulls like any other Mitsubishi motor. Now I just need some sticky tires on the back, Im having a problem with shifting into 2nd gear under boost and the ass end wanting to break out :):seeya::seeya::seeya:

Oh yeah, and some turtle wax for the win.

Re: A real mans DSM :D, Introducing, the Starion

And the new tires on the back, and one on the front. Traction seems to be a small issue.

FattyBoomBatty 02-09-2009 12:42 AM

Re: A real mans DSM :D, Introducing, the Starion

How much boost are you running now?

And don't worry about those compression numbers. (you did do them with the throttle wide open with the other plugs out and injectors unplugged, right?)

Oh yeah, and we're going to convert this bad bitch to wasted spark for about 2 dolla.
