I just went with the 2.5" housing. The 3" was just too much more money and I didn't know anybody that could weld at the time to make me a custom down pipe.

Brad can I get a ride sometime?

For sure, I'm down to give anybody a ride. Hopefully I can make it out to a meet before it gets too cold. I have night class whenever there is a meet, which kinda sucks.

I've had a really good experience with FP, I ordered my exhaust mani throught their group buy on tooners they had going and they were still really nice and took their time with me even though I'm sure their phones were ringing off the hook (could hear them in the background).

Only problem I have had with FP is there "coating" turns out there coating is houseshit and comes off instantly when blasted compared to other, basically it coated like one pass with a can of spray paint.

The black stuff or the gold stuff? I know they had some issues with their older coatings, but the newer stuff seems to hold up and does the job.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Don'y say get an FP setup; because I've always wanted that.

I can't check out the dsmlink forums as I am not a user; One of the main reasons i wanted link was for the forums! haha, maybe I should get Link first so I can find a deal on a turbo.

I'd ideally like 400awhp on e85 on a Dyno Dynamics; I won't be like Swifty and cry if I don't reach my goal! I'd be happy with 300awhp!

The only negative about the FP stuff is the over priced o2 housing, hence why Blageo23 is making his own.

My options: (excluding supporting mods)
20G/Tial 38 (lightly used, and good price from a friend)
FP manifold
convert ebay dumped o2 to external gate (like Kittay's)
~$1000

Or
FP3065
FP Mani
Tial 44
Fp/ or custom O2
~$2500

I got a standard dsm flanged o2 housing with a recirculated 40mm Tial WG for $275, I like mine because it's not loud, better option than dumped in my opinion. I'm sure you can find one for tial 38.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

As I said earlier, I'd go with the FP setup. I've just gotten to the point where I want things to just fit, and just work. FP builds stuff to go specifically onto a DSM, and to all fit together specifically in a DSM, and they have proven that their stuff performs well in DSM's. You do pay a price for it, but god I've spent enough money and time making "random/various" parts all fit/work together, that to me it justifies the slightly higher bill when things just work, and fit.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

I am a machinist, we do welding at my work, (we actually do a lot of stuff for Par Nuclear, Brandon!) and a few friends own a small fabrication shop. So I could modify my o2 housing myself or make an o2 housing.

^Shit if you got the tools then do it.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

As far as 02 housings go, I paid DB to fabricate a v-band downpipe for my setup. The whole downpipe cost about as much as FP charges for their 2.5" 02 housing. Granted im sure the cost of steels now will impact the current price greatly.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Yea the price of the 02 housing was what sucked the most out of the whole fp setup. I paid more for my 2.5" 02 housing than I did for my 3" ss which kinda sucked to me but they've got you stuck if you don't know anybody that can fabricate. You can always see if you like the 3065 after a ride though, could be thinking up all this work for nothing. haha

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Decisions decisons...if you'll be happy with 300whp or so, go 20G, the price is right and it's a good setup. If you want more, then go for the FP3065 or, like I suggested above, contact FP about doing a bolt-on HTA3076.

Here's one on a pretty tricked out evo. If you got anywhere near the numbers this put down, you would be in good shape :)

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Whats the difference between the HTA and non FP"3065"? They are both ball bearing, are the wheels larger or something? Doesn't it supposedly spool up quicker and make a bit more power at the same boost level?

If I did go FP, I'd most likely mod my 3" SS downpipe by making a vband 3" o2/downpipe 1 piece part.

20G only sounds good right now because it's cheap, but I don't want to upgrade twice.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

HTA is a custom billet wheel that is designed by FP.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Yup, custom wheel with uber modern aero, made of high-grade aluminum...making it lighter, more powerful, and faster spooling (better torque).

I'm kinda leaning toward the PTE SCM61 the mitsu bolt on standard journal bearing myself but you can get what you want... Not too sure because I'v only done a little research on it and heard its a good turbo.

I'm glad you are considering that. Anyways. :)

If anyone sees a good deal on FP setup, or any decent turbo, aka on DSMLink forums, LET ME KNOW!!! Thanks

There is a 3065 on the link forums. Seems like a decent deal.

I almost bought an HX35 today. Hahaha. Still looking for deals, might end up with the Holeset HX35 in the BEP .55 A/R housing...

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Anyone have any opinions on the HX35? For the same price I could get a ball bearing PTE GT3076 bolt on...
