Yup, I was just going to say the same thing. Check out Kevin's graph. This is a different turbo, but you'll notice how power does not fall off up top.

How much will it help on a 16G? Well, that's a question that I would wonder :)

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams

It's a 16G, it probably maxed and it doesn't hold boost. With the 22psi tune, it drops to 21psi by redline. With the 27psi tune it drops to 22psi by redline. So torque/mid range power was up more, but peak was only up 10whp. He has a stock 2G small plenum intake manifold also. Sheetmetal intake manifolds usually help bring up the power past 6500RPMs on 2Gs. It would be interesting to see how much one would help a 16G. I have tuned some setups that had everything for high rpm power, but still couldn't hold power out to revlimiter.

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams

I am with ya man, but I wonder if it'd really be worth it. The car is mildly unmolested, running a reliable turbo, and making great power for tearing it up on the street....any street!

95tsi, if you ever take your car apart, slap in a JM SMIM and see if it helps :) Until then, tear it up!

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams

My wifes car with an SC61 on it, HKS 272 cams and stock 1G intake manifold starts dropping power after 6500.

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams

i was just wondering about boost, cause i know CB only has about a 3psi variation i think.

So i figured that if i could get boost to hold at 29psi, which it should do, i would have a tabletop part in the graph.

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams

Could we get a graph of RPM vs boost?

Thanks to Dave and Shane@ DB for helping people like me make a good/easier cam choice

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams

I'll have to check into the Jm intake... See what happens. I'd love to know if it would help anything up top. Otherwise, I still have a N20 kit lying in the garage... It sure is fun to drive though!!!

Thanks dave that is awesome.
Basically i have a boost leak issue and i thought that it was just that, not the turbo, because i have seen a few people hold 27+psi all the way to redline.

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams

358awhp on a DD is some good power for a 16g. My (bolt-on 50 trim/Comp 101200 cams'd/stock 1g intake mani) 1g made pretty much the same power (when converted down to a dyno dynamics) and was a little bit laggier. I was on 28-29 psi on 111octane.

This is ancient but a fair comparison. I believe it'd make about 350 on a dyno dynamics nowadays but you can see it was l ike 500 rpms laggier.

I just hate the way the car feels like its eating its face before redline.

That's why I autocross, 1st and 2nd gear always feel fast.

You have a 16G. You don't need to rev it to redline. You don't want a stroker then either. Even with cams, big turbo and sheetmetal intake manifold, they usually have peak power around 6500 and fade after that.

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams

No doubt aaron! Just shift yo! :D

Notice how on the graph that cher posted, the top end is a little better w/ the 50-trim. This is probably a direct result of being able to hold more boost at redline. Boost taper is a reality (and even more prevelant in evos), holding a flat boost curve on a straight MBC & internal gate is just not gonna happen.

\ok, thanks guys. Maybe i will go back to stock cams then.

No, don't be silly. What do you have in there now? 272's? comps?

I believe he has BC280's and is trying to trade for 272's.

BC cams.....meh.... :D

^what is that about now sonny?
yes i wish to find \bc 272s as they are the 'smallest' 272 cam out right now, i want to keep as much mid range as possible.

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams

Sorry, I've just seen really really lackluster results from BC cams. Both midrange and up top. Stick with HKS IMHO.
