Yes, I have the know-how. On the evo, it is not really very complicated, nor is it expensive. However, I do not have a dyno or a wideband so I'll take it to someplace that does and be the annoying guy that kinda knows whats going on and wants to see what's being changed etc etc.

Nice! I hope to be that same kind of annoying guy in the near-future.

Looks like fun! Was part of the bolt and socket dropping attributed to the cold weather? I know my fingers don't work very well when cold.

Re: Project Porting! Pics!

Honestly I was mostly tired. I was in my garage and after the 3 hours of laying over the engine bay, my arms and fingers were really tired. Between working a full day before this, having a weak back in general, and the time removing the stock mani, it was about 11pm and I was really tired. I made the mistake of deciding to 'just do one more thing' before bed. That one thing was to quick bolt the new manifold up since I was already tired and dirty (kinda). That one thing quickly turned into half-installing it, removing it looking for a socket, spending 10 minutes trying to get the socket from between the block and the xfer case, reinstalling manifold, put all bolts in loosely, tighten down all but this now broken bolt. There might have been another half R&R in there of the manifold because of something else, I don't remember!

Anna and I made a semi-major decision that day, so I was gunning to get it done! More on that later....

OMG I am not that lucky. I can't get her to drive a stick, the MR would be the only chance at that, until the new SST Ralliart comes out.

No, nothing too crazy we're going to be adopting another little beagle!

LOL Mark! That's funny! Well THANK YOU to Mark and his dad for helping out extracting that bolt. I've dealt with this in the past on the front side of the motor, but I was out of steam on this one. Took 1.5 hours of grinding with a diamond bit, but they got it out!

Manifold is ON and SOLID! I boost leak tested to 30psi, holds dandy! I need to re-route some of my vacuum lines, get some proper vacuum caps, and do a little more of a wire tuck, but so far all is well. My tune is WAY out of whack now, but after a decent test drive with Kracka and Kevin, the car feels solid, and so far no CEL after unhooking the EGR and all associated lines.

LOL Turbo will have to get his humping in check!

The ported IM/TB is a success! The car runs again and feels strong!

THe car definatly feels strong. I can't wait to see how hard this thing will pull after it's tuned.

So you drilled out the old bit and broken bolt and retapped or did you extract it?

scheides 07-21-2008 12:39 PM

Re: Project Porting! Pics!

Back from the dead! Pete, extracted it.

So, results.

Jan 07 shane put in the cams, the car made ~292whp w/o raising the boost (it was at about 23psi peak on a mbc).

Since then, I put in the ported exhaust manifold, ported hotside, SS o2 housing, IX turbo (bigger compressor), ported intake manifold, and ported TB. The car is also making a tad more boost up top with the gm bcs I installed.

So, what does this all add up to?

http://www.scheides.com/albums/evo8/IMG_7469.sized.jpg

Also note, this tune was done mostly by me, so given full control I feel confident shane could get a little bit more out of it. But it's now my low-boost, non-alky map so it's a nice, tame, knock-free kick-around-town tune. Ricer math says all those mods should get me closer to 335whp, so I feel I got my money's worth. An easy 25-30whp gain for a total of about $800 invested, that is still good bang/buck $$ in most people's books, including mine!
