So, how did the old gasket look? Could you see the point of where it was leaking?

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

It seemingly looked from the timing side when it was on the car, but once it was off, and coolant all over, the copperspray just kinda went everywhere I guess. I just cleaned all surfaces off, and threw the new one in. Also made things much easier to pull the studs out this time, so i don't worry about the washers all falling off.

To bump this for Swifty's banned ass, he went through all that and it ended up being the water pump. Was still a good idea to get that gasket out of there anyway, but that wasn't the issue.

We told him to check that first... haha

wow, why wouldn't you check the easiest/cheapest thing first.

Why would someone want to do that?

Ahhh, I dont believe he has it fixed. He resealed the water pump and its still leaking.

I still believe his headgasket isnt sealing. I wanted to check his head and block with my straight edge before he put his new head gasket on but it was too late, he had it all together.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Now he thinks its his weep hole of the pump.

Water pumps have a little hole that'll drip coolant. It's normally a very small amount, no more than a drop each time you run the car. Don't ask me why, I just know it's there.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

The only reason coolant would come out that hole it is the bearings in the pump are shot. Get a new pump and tune the dumb thing.
Is that all thats left to be done?

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

I'll be tearing it apart YET AGAIN tomorrow after work and replacing it with a pump Chad (black rosenova) is giving me that has less then 4,000 miles on it, along with another dumb paper gasket, and a THIN coat of rtv to get it to hold to the pump while i put it in place. I double checked the freeze plug on the side of the head..no leaks. Nor the teflon paste coated allen plugs behind the cam gears on that side too. No other leaks on the car, besides some stupid shit on this side. It took a damn day to get the hg done, then the water pump gasket done, and it was just fine, no leaks when I ran it in my garage, while others looked over it with me. Only started this issue when I was driving to and from cars n coffee yesterday morning. Timing belt and that side is covered in coolant..retarded.

This is no longer true on new water pumps, they are designed to release pressure to save the seals.

Thanks bud. I won't make ya drive down from blaine though. I just need to sort it out. Once I know the issue, fixing isn't hard.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Replaced the waterpump, and saw the oil seals for the camshafts were also bad, so I replaced those from ones Kerry gave me (thanks a ton bud!). Seems to have fixed the issues..true test will be driving it to the gas station to fill it back up with new fuel. I also tentatively set up a dyno date with Shane..May 20th, 2pm. Hopefully all goes well!
