Re: Evo X upgrades
Quite a few magazine articles about aero this month. There's more to life than the 1/4 mile, although you'd wonder at times if you read the forums.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Are you trying to justify that wing of yours? ;) There are plenty of areas of each forum that are dedicated to turning the wheel if you look for them. Are the stock X wings functional? The 8/9 wing creates 200 lbs. of downforce at ~100mph.

Re: Evo X upgrades
^The stock X wing is very functional...there is a whole article of how they designed it in the wind tunnel on evom somewhere.

Re: Evo X upgrades
The best reason I can think to get rid of it is the weight...the trunk/wing weighs a ridiculous amount.

I'm struggling with the front-end more than the rear. I already have factory Aero so I figured I'd add the APR splitter. The problem is that splitters cause some convenience problems (having to pull the bumper to dyno and hindering access in general under the car). I think I'll just have to wait until I have the car back and eyeball & measure things. It's tough to visualize without having the car. |

Re: Evo X upgrades
They say that Star Specs run wide. Since I only went with 9.5" rims I decided to play it safe and ordered 265/35/18 instead of 275s.
I'm going out on vacation from the 9-18th. The plan is to get the tires mounted on the rims in the AM on the 19th, pick up the head at MAP, and then run them both over to DB. I don't see a point in dynoing on Winter tires since there seems to be some question about how they affect results. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Good choice.. winter tires seem to be the suck at dynoing.
Ps. My 275's might have possibly come in today...and they might possibly be getting mounted today at 4:30 and on the car...hehehe;) |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Winter tires seem to suck up about 10-15whp, so yea, def get the summers on there.
|
Re: Evo X upgrades
Star Specs are heavy tires, especially that large of ones. Compare the weights on TireRack vs. your snow tires. Good call on getting it all setup in summer trim for dynoing though.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Yup, gonna look monster truckish for sure, lol. But at least i will get some grip back:)
I looked at the weights of rims and tires on tire rack i think i picked up 2lbs per tire/wheel (since rpf1's saved me some). Gonna have to go 2 piece rotors I guess to balance that shit out;) But my winter tires are heavy too. |

Re: Evo X upgrades
TireRack lists the weight for most tires and wheel weights are easy enough to find.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Well I think my rims are 2 lbs lighter than stock...so I picked up 4 lbs per rim/tire over my OEM summer tire/wheel.
Kind of a lot, but who knows, I guess we will see what happens next week. Star specs are 32lbs per tire, stock advans are 26 and my winter are 25 (thought they were heavy but for sure not, lol). Maybe I will have to move it up a notch...been eyeballing this for next winter:) http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/a...turbo-kit.html |
Re: Evo X upgrades
The Summer combination came out to 1lb lighter since the stock rims are 22lbs. The new lug nuts are also a lot lighter (enough to make you wonder how they keep the wheel on).
