Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
You did this so friggin fast, can tell you really have mastered tubing work. It will be interesting to see the weight after all this for sure. Your dedication to weight savings is awesome. The custom window net turned out great as well! Did you decide what color you are gonna paint the cage yet?

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Cage looks amazing!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I cut the roof off! The cage is welded and I'm awaiting certification.
http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...205_074215.jpg I also received my carbon parts! Roof test fit. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...202_060535.jpg 2g dash is awesome! Took a lot of cutting to get it fit. The 2g dash is about 6" thicker! http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...206_064335.jpg |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I can't wait to see this thing in action! looks awesome!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
The roof, the roof, the roof is all fiber
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Holy I don't even know.
This is crazy. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Any plans on fabbing up a drag wing?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Thanks guys! I'm liking how this is turning out! I just happy the carbon parts showed up!
No drag wing plans yet. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects

Amazing. Im just down the road in Eagan as well, would love to check this out sometime!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
mmm carbon fiber bits!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
How does the carbon get bonded to the steel on the roof? I have heard mix reviews on carbonetics, how did your experience go with him?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Keep us updated Troy! I'm cool to see you get this new car down the track. Should be a good year for you.
Thanks for the comments guys. I've got more carbon parts to show off in the next couple of weeks. As for carbonetics. I ordered all my stuff at the end of July. It showed up late January. Their quality is awesome, their customer service sucks, expect double lead time that they quote you. The stuff was packaged and all boxed very carefully. It's much like dealing with Frontline fabrication. Just know that their focus is on high quality parts. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Oh yeah, I'm using a 3M panel bonding epoxy to install the roof.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Awesome work like always.
That 3m bonding epoxy is great stuff. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Could you post more pictures of how you installed the dash with your down bars.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Getting much further along, the floor is painted, the cage is primed ready for paint. I decided to paint the cage body color and leave the floor black. I'm going to paint the rest of the interior body color. The cage was certified too, legal to 7.5 seconds now!
http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...224_111653.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...224_111621.jpg I guess I never realized that the doors were so heavy. It's crazy, I can't wait to see what the carbon/Kevlar saves me. I'll post it up once I find out an apples to apples comparison. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Nice work on the certification, and I think carbon doors are gonna cut alot of weight. Are doors carbonetics as well?

The doors save alot of weight! Way more than I expected. My old doors have the cross beam removed and as much of the sheet metal on the front removed. The new doors have polycarbonate windows that dont roll down, this helps on weight too. The total weight saved per door is a bit over 34 pounds! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Wiseco is sponsoring my new MAPerformance engine build by supplying buck wild custom hp pistons/rings/wigged out TP1 coated pins!
Also, I just finished painting the interior and cage. Super pumped how it turned out! I used paint code mixed cans and 2 part 2k clear coat in a can. Very easy to get great results! I also used carbon tube protectors to protect the paint. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...310_164430.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...310_165158.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...310_100136.jpg Looking forward to a great season! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Looks amazing. You going to run their new rods too? Or maybe you run aluminum ones, I forget.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That turned out really good!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Wow that looks great!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Little teaser of the project. It's coming along nicely! The interior is complete now! I need to repaint the side mirror deletes, work on some side trim, and determine if I'm going to cut out an intercooler opening. It's going to be an awesome day when I get it all wrapped up! This was the largest winter project I've taken on.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Looks amazing. You are a machine.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Looks like all the carbon stuff fits well! You have outdone yourself as usual, have you already weighed it?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Agree with mo. Amazing.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Wowza
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That looks mean! Can't wait to see it go down the track!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Looks very nice. I do love the carbon front half of the car. Hope to see this flying at the track this year
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Absolutely unreal that car is gorgeous

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
First off, thanks guys! This is going to be a building year for me, with so many changes.
The new chassis work is almost done. I had a problem with trim with the carbonetics fenders, the factory trim would not work. (Even with significant mods) http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...313_201509.jpg I learned that I needed to use Eclipse rear trim to eliminate the the eagle talon side/rocker trim. So fast forward, I removed the trim and it uncovered a rust spot on the passenger side and a big dent on the drivers side. I patched in new steel on the passenger side. This sucked, and was a good for me to learn body work...i also patched the holes for the trim mounting locations. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...402_071026.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...402_070803.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...405_175112.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...407_080320.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...419_150356.jpg What is crazy is this was all done with custom paint mixed and 2k clear cost aerosol cans! I also cutout the intercooler opening, I was unwilling to keep the front end closed off after research on the benefit. I built air guides on the intercooler to match the bumper profile. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...421_142859.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...421_162917.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...421_162817.jpg Super pumped to get this project wrapped up and get it down the track! |

love it so much. That FMIC is huge!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Just noticed your hood pins. I was thinking about doing those for various pieces on my car.
What are your thought so far about them. Granted your using them to hold your hood, so that definetly says something by itself at the speeds you run. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
You and Troy are killing it this season Mark, looking forward to seeing you guys at the track this year!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
