I have heard very good things...it won't leak though, which is what I care about most :)

Mike, I am sure those other plugs are solid, but I needed some sooner than those would of came...well maybe i do (i don't like parts holding stuff up) and for over double the price, I'll stick with something that has been shown to work...I do get a little nervous about the insulator from the plug falling in the cylinder though.

I was being facetious in that post...no way I'd buy those plugs when the stockers work so well. I assume the insulator issue is heat-related and less likely with E85.

Oh have you seen the stuff about getting longer set screws and such?

IF you want them I have them still i think.

For the synapse? I haven't.

Didn't hear any problems with it yet, they just released a new version with an integrated port C and its the evo specific one so I hope it works alright. I have seen 1 or 2 complain that the set screw might leak, is that what you meant?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I can't find it, but something about the set screws that attach teh bov to the flange are really short, I got longer ones that someone did a writeup on recommended.

The longer screws help to make it seal better.

^Well I guess when I have a car and the bov we can play with it if need be. Thanks for the offer on this, hopefully the new version doesn't need adjusting but who knows. I will hit ya up if I need em.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Wow, 2 weeks since my last post, that has to be a record, if I wasn't so bored right now I wouldn't even post, lol.

I exchanged an email or two with Danny today, I sent him a pic of what FP sent for my oil line kit and it looks like they forgot a banjo bolt and the oil line filter for the kit...LAME. I asked him jokingly almost, so since you are working on the turbo you are close to putting the engine in and he said yea real close. So I am not positive but it sounds like this stupid banjo bolt and filter could be the only thing from starting to drop the motor back in. SHIT, if this is the worst of my build problems I will be all grins.

I am very concerned about my injectors working out, seems like a coin flip for the new DW 1300's to work, i guess we will see. I really doubt this friday will happen, i hope to be driving the car next week sometime though :)

Damn, there is more to dave then whores and cars! ;)

But since you ask, this weekend looks promising, but hopefully something more than a one night stand. Time will tell.

On a side note, my roommate is moving out, anyone needs a place I have an open room for pretty cheap I think for what you get :)

Reach around? j/k.

I genuinely hope you get all the luck that I didn't. You do realize that you'll be the first X on a Black on E85?

Is Shane a fucking world-class tuner or what?

Stopped by DB...motor is very very close now, the missing parts from FP will be there Monday and probably Tuesday they will start putting it in the car I would assume, so next Friday is looking good for starting the car up :) Jake's car should be running now, it was basically done when I was there, if not then Monday for his ;)

Snapped a few pics of the motor basically all buttoned up.

A shot of the intake port, it looks like the did a good job porting it, i could easily fit three fingers in there, almost 4.

And I realized I haven't posted a pic of my actual car forever, so here it is...so Sad looking :(

Man, I can't wait to drive this thing...I am going to get them my stock injectors for startup just in case my DW injectors have problems like some have been seeing.

Murlo26 09-13-2010 10:01 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

After seeing Scheides' results for his tubular mani, I know my stock ported one will be holding me back...so winter time I have the ultimate question to address...get a tubular mani and another 30-50whp (I would assume gains on an FPblack E85 will be bigger than that even but being conservative, also I have a ported stocker so that could be right) or stop screwing around with stock frame and go T3....

I am thinking I will keep screwing around with stock frame as the whole reason I like it is you can keep adding pieces 1 at a time to help with paying for it and I would lose quite a bit of money on selling the black etc.

Engine looks good! Is that a coated valve cover or the plastic one from a '10?

Murlo26 09-13-2010 10:06 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Coated, primo matched it to my AMS IC pipes and my new primo intake...all the stuff is flat black :) Lomker has an oil cap like mine but black that he offered me, so maybe I will try that out to keep it all black.

Motor and Trans are back in, just got word from Danny this morning :) WOO WOO.

Now all the little crap time, which will take a few days I assume, if all goes smooth.

Hopefully picking up Lomker's stock injectors for the break in period, as my new 1300's could be an issue.

Man so close I can taste it.

Updates:

Here are some pics...they are working on cleaning out the debris from the motor explosion in the intake mani and throttle body. Currently waiting on a washer from SSP for my master clyinder as well and hopefully that solves the leaking problem but I am not too optimistic on that, i think we might have to swap it out for a magnus because the sealing surfaces at that point are just rough and a few other things with the design are going to make it tough to get it leak free but we are going to try.

I am thinking today/tomorrow and monday should wrap up getting everything in and then next week they will start it up sometime...no start up this week i don't think...lots of little shit still but nothing major left really.

And for fun, Jakes (311evo's) car!
I guess they have been idling it and changing oil and stuff so far, should be driving soon i would imagine.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I was planning on it, but getting this thing running by then is going to be a challenge...I would expect next week to be early break in at DB and oil changes there before I can even drive it. Hopefully by Wednesday or Thursday I can pick it up and start driving...then the next week would be miles and miles of break-in followed by power tune later that week (sept 30th area).

Just put a battery in mine. I need a CV boot replaced and could use some rear shocks. Don't like spending money on that car, tho.

Murlo26 09-16-2010 02:10 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

My point exactly...spending money on the beater sucks, but I will probably end up doing that. Once I get out of the money hole I am in now, I am selling this POS for a evo 8/9...then that will be my DD car.

Like I said, my car is still coming together and I was surprised that I hadn't had any issues yet...this would be the first one really.

I think I will come pick up the magnus one you have after work. Then if we need it I have it, otherwise I will bring it back to you. If I use it I will order you a new one for sure.

Umm, they haven't even started the car yet. The cam cap thing that I had was freakish. There's normally not a lot that can go wrong during assembly.

I agree, I will get around to it eventually...if my luck is that bad it is that bad, but I don't have money to spare on the build, already way way way in the hole. I just want it running.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Big thanks to Lomker, stopped by his place and picked us his Magnus MC that he had sitting on a shelf or something (he should open a store for his unused parts :))

Anyway, here it is, I am not holding up my build for something as dumb as an MC, so if they can't get my SSP working i am ditching it for this.

Ooh shiny.

Murlo26 09-17-2010 01:02 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Ok, so just stopped by DB over lunch to drop off the MC (Lomker's Magnus one) and me and Danny checked it out and compared it to an Evo 9 one on the 1000whp Evo 9 at DB. It is in fact an Evo 9 MC retrofitted onto a plate of some sort.

We then looked over the recently posted Magnus install instructions and of course, the install is not what Danny was hoping for...basically a complete start over on the MC involving some grinding to get it to fit as well.

So I had to decide...wait for the new gasket from SSP and hope that seals and if it does seal...pray that it will not fail in a month or two of driving.
Or on the flipside have DB spend a few hours installing the Magnus and also buy Lomker another Magnus to pay him back...honestly both choices seemed to suck...but I am sick of worrying about it, so I said Fuck it and told him to put the Magnus in.

The shitty part is this ended up being the bottleneck on getting my car running.

All they have left to do it looks like is the CMC and also the ECM bracket and wires and intake.

The intake mani, throttle body and fuel stuff are all back on, so this is holding it up which also made me think, screw it, i want my car back!

So, hopefully they can knock out the Magnus today and maybe Monday they will get to idling the car :)
