Re: Evo X upgrades
So is Shane tuning this again this week sometime with the double pumper? Or is it just hanging there until he finds free time he doesn't have with a goal of getting it before your next event?

I told him to throw in the ID2000's and give me a 28psi/9k rpm tune. I must admit I waffled a bit about just going for 32psi but I want to drive it a while and make sure that everything is sound before I go for a max tune. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
32psi would be so much fun though :waterski:

Re: Evo X upgrades
One thing I never thought about really for you...is that you are doing road courses...you should really get a surge tank setup with all the fuel starvation issues people have seen.

It's not a big deal to dump a 5gal can in the tank after each session for now. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Now I'm wondering if my oil burning (and dipstick spitting) is related to the catch can setup.
I did some research online but there doesn't seem to be a lot of consensus on how to configure them. I'm thinking that I might need to drill out the stock PCV valve and put an inline check valve on the outlet port of the can. Have to find someone that knows how to set that up right... |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Kracka vents FTW! Scheides would know how to hook all that up, he had them on his VIII.

We were talking about this when you were on the dyno. I think Scheides said it looked right tho... |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Could def ditch the stock PCV's for some Kracka Vents, these things are magic. I'll look at my car and see what the stock PCV's are like, I'm sure there's a way to circumvent them. If nothing else, you could put the KV's inline with them.

The Kracka vents install inline on one of the hoses? I haven't ordered them yet...want to figure out what I'm going to do first. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Shane got my car on the dyno super late last night. He said it's "better" than it was but the progressive pump still allows too much back-flow when compared to a dual GSS342 setup. Said he could only get 200hp without the second pump turned on.
I'm tired of dinking with it. BlaqOPs has a Hobb switch in the mail so I'll just convert to the tried-and-true method. It looks like the progressive pump only works in the stock pump housing because the Y connector that he uses on that setup doesn't produce the back-pressure that the Full Blown housing does. |

Checking on the boomba can would be easy, just pull both of the hoses and blow through the one going to the IM. If you can feel *any* air coming out of the VC side, there's no checkvalve in there, and that's bad. The stock PCV can do some, but a beefier setup is def nicer. |

Good luck figuring out the fuel pump issues, I hate when stupid issues cause such large setbacks like this. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
I got the new wiring harness (a Hobbs switch & relay) from BlaqOPs and I got half-way to DB when I remembered something....BlaqOPs had cut off the standard Walbro power connector in the second pump position because their progressive unit uses spades for the power connection.
Damn. I drove back home and just sent an email to Full Blown. I hope LJ can hook me up. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
LJ has what I need. I'll go to DB after work tomorrow to swap in the new setup.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Got the dual GSS342 and a Hobbs into the car tonight. We'll see what Shane thinks this time.
|
Re: Evo X upgrades
So u got rid of the second pump that Chris at blaqops gave you, the 270 whatever he calls it?
How come? |

The theory is that the Full Blown hanger produces more backward flow through the progressive pump than you would get from the same setup in a stock hanger (like yours). |
Re: Evo X upgrades
I see...gotcha

Re: Evo X upgrades
At the risk of being optimistic, I just leased a second parking spot in my building. lol.

You supposed to be back on the dyno today? Time/day? |

If everything is cool then I'll bring it back for the ID2000 tune. Now that Tephra is out I'd like two tunes with a hotter one in the alt map. I'm sure Shane won't have time for that until after the MAP proving grounds event...he's buried over there. Probably won't need that parking spot for a month but $80/mo is a good rate in my building so I had to snag it. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
I didn't have much luck with the Rays (dur)aluminum lugs--the first keyed one that I tried to torque down bent and lodged itself in the special socket. These are the more expensive Formula lugs...they use a seven-sided hex key on every lug, so in theory they are more secure and hopefully they can at least be torqued without breaking.
I have some more Rexpeed carbon bits on the way (hood and wheel vents). http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...ormulalugs.jpg |

I've already bought the splitter so I think I'll give it a go but if it ends up being a pita then I'm going to change it out...perhaps order a Varis lip over the Winter months and have it ready to go for the Spring. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
My beater just overheated. I suppose it's most likely the water pump but in the past when that was the issue the belt would break...it didn't in this case. After work I'll check the fluid level then maybe try pulling the thermostat? Of course I don't keep SAE tools in the car.
It just figures... |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Are any of us X guys driving our cars right now? LOL Yours is down, Murlo's is down, Scheides' is in his garage missing body panels, and mine is in today for warranty work...

Re: Evo X upgrades
After some reflection, I realize that I started hearing pulley noise under the hood a good week ago. I figured it was A/C (that I know doesn't work) so I ignored it. Same sort of thing happened with my BMW a few years ago...ignored that sound and it got me.
I'm going to try to limp it a mile to a garage in Eagan. More money that I didn't need to be spending. Ugh. I own two cars but I'm calling around for a rental. Somewhat amusing, but only a little bit. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
As soon as i get my evo running correctly and "reliably" and recoup the costs of the motor build...I am buying a good DD, something relatively new, 2000 and up at least.
Sure my car was just fully overhauled and is working great...but it is still old, so it is a matter of time before something else goes. Your luck continues, just like mine ;) At least your neck doesn't hurt. |

It should cost a lot less to fix an American car anyway. It ended up being $800 on the BMW for a water pump, belt, and fluids. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Just do it yourself and learn how as you go. That's how I learned. Keep it up and pretty soon you'll have a low paying physical labor job like me too!

Re: Evo X upgrades

I just got the $800 estimate. Holy shit. Between this bill and the stereo I've doubled the price of the car. |

i hope i luck out on mine...the body damage from the accident is ghetto fixed and i spent 400 on parts to fix all the maintenance stuff. Why is it so much to fix? Seems awfully high. Just labor? |
