Re: beaterX project thread
I go a point lean without a shield on the intake but my O2s are disabled so it can't adjust.
410 on pump would be pretty crazy. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Very nice Scheides, glad everything is working out for you. Can't wait until you switch to E85, this setup will shine even more!
You going to rev to 8k on this setup always or just for now? |
Re: beaterX project thread
8000 is plenty for the street, I'll prolly do 8500 for the track, maybe higher as needed. Revs and engine longevity are directly related so part of me wants to keep the revs down but the other part of me wants to just use what I've built for things of awesome :D
|
Re: beaterX project thread
You are a stronger man than I for resisting the revving...your car also works still so you might be on to something :)
The black really needs the extra revs though I think makes the transition between shifts way way better. Does the bbx stumble at all shifting at 8k? I know my red almost stuttered at the stock rev limit. |

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day when scheides had a built motor, 1680's, etc haha! Can't wait to see what this bish does on E85!! |
Re: beaterX project thread
Nope, BBX I can shift at 6500 and the car is still plenty fun/fast. Half of the fun of having a super wide powerband though is just cranking on it and reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvving it out faster faster faster woaaaaahooo! So yea I get what you mean revving higher.
The one thing I really want to work on the next time I go to the drag track is revving first gear higher. I think I could have picked up another tenth and with the extra power now it'll take some getting used to, but I have the valvetrain to do it now so why not. Also I was always scared to rev it too high for autoX but with the low gearing of the X I was sometimes hunting for which gear to be in; I think having a setup made to rev higher will make decisions like that easier, not to mention having more down-low torque thanks to the cams! |

Re: beaterX project thread
Well I think I've settled on 1.39*stock maf for about perfect scaling for my car and the 3.5" maf. Ironically:
area of circle: pi*r*r inner diameter(stock): 2.8" (r=1.4) inner diameter(primo): 3.3" (r=1.65) area (stock) = 1.4*1.4*3.14 = 6.15 sq inches area (primo) = 1.65*1.65*3.14 = 8.55 sq inches conversion ratio (primo/stock): 8.55/6.15= 1.39 Others had told me 1.5 so I went with 1.48 to start....gah. Anyways, been playing with boost. Goal is to peak to ~26psi and hold at least 25psi at 8000rpm. It's *not* perfect, but I'm getting there :) This is after about 3 revisions of testing. http://scheides.com/misc/pics/evox/e...fter-35maf.jpg (note: these pulls were started around 5000rpm, just for testing upper rpm boost...full pulls I will do when road conditions allow) This is using my hybrid setup: hallman MBC inline with pierburg 3-port bcs. Seems to be working nicely :) |

Re: beaterX project thread
Looking good man. So you're running 26-27 on pump gas? or has the E85 conversion started?
|
Re: beaterX project thread
It's still plumbed exactly like this:
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28224 BCS goes between the outlet of the MBC and the WGA. The sole purpose of this is to help eliminate boost taper that a MBC sees, and *hopefully* more boost = more whp but that is not always the case. We shall see come saturday :D |

Re: beaterX project thread
So, Primo came through for me with a last-minute surprise for the dyno day:
Introducing the Primo Performance 2.75" Evo X LICP http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...4123.sized.jpg This is the coldside pipe on the X, wrapping around to the TB http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...4124.sized.jpg The stock pipe is decent and I made great power on it, but I can't help but notice there's some subtle niceties that I really really like about this new, slightly bigger and smoother-bending pipe: http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...4126.sized.jpg Mates right up to the 2.75" OD of the TB: http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...4127.sized.jpg Utilizes stock mounting bolt w/ stock rubber mount: http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...4128.sized.jpg Fits perfect! Comes with t-bolt clamps: http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...4130.sized.jpg Got the factory air scoop to fit too! http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...4134.sized.jpg Driving impressions: holy hell, I honestly wasn't sure it'd make much of a difference. I was plesantly surprised to say the least! Off-boost in the 2500-4000rpm range the car feels more responsive and when boost kicks in I feel a definite bump in torque in the midrange! The car feels great overall and while the boost curve is still not perfect, I'm able to hold 26psi at 8500rpm. PS I raised the rev-lmiter :) http://scheides.com/misc/pics/evox/e...af-8500rpm.jpg See all tomorrow at DB! |
Re: beaterX project thread
Nice looking piece.
|
Re: beaterX project thread
Very cool, hopefully they get one to me too sooner rather than later since I also have an upcoming dyno-day!
|
Re: beaterX project thread
Nice, can't wait to see what you lay down at DB tomorrow. You aren't going first are you? I don't want to get up that early haha.

Re: beaterX project thread
11am is early when you are up until 3am or later.
I'll have to do an early friday tonight...must see dynoing. |

Re: beaterX project thread
1680's installed. Physical install was a cinch, took maybe 20 minutes; the fuel rail is right on top/front on the X so this was completely painless.
Initial settings I had from the guy I got them from didn't work worth a crap, the car idled at 8:1 and sputtered and died. Tried some more settings published on evoM with again, no luck. Then I realized that mrfred had posted some values from a car he had done with a cobb AP. 2.625 1.395 0.825 0.660 0.600 0.555 0.540 he posted E85 scaling: 943 Pump scaling I guessed, ~1.3*943: 1329 Last summer tephra figured out that the original algorithm used to display latencies and I could apply that and use mrfred's values for the cobb car. (link: http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-x-e...hm-change.html) Still no luck. Car starts and runs good for a few secs above 2000 then as soon as it goes below 1500 it just goes pig pig rich again. My logger is goofed up for some reason, but I'm thinking that the ecu simply won't drop pulsewidth low enough, so I applied tephra's minimum IPW hack: http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-x-e...ion-patch.html Dropped MinimumIPW down one notch from .040 to .032. flash, start car, bam, fukin starts perfect, revs to 2000-3000 w/o any stumbling or issues, and it idles like a champ. Took the car around the 'block', initial short-term fuel trims look fine so I give it a few brief wot runs, just around 4000, into a little boost to check afrs. Sad news, wideband in the car is flatlined at 0v again. No knock on the wot runs though, so I guess I'll just be driving around nicely and checking fuel trims until I get a new sensor. *edit* hit the recalibrate button for the LC-1 and it's come back to life. I'll be testing this setup a bit until the tank is dry....then it's time to sell my soul to the corn gods :P |
Re: beaterX project thread
Oh also, changed the oil today. 3100 miles on this oil, the car didn't burn a drop. I don't say it often enough, but I want to thank MAP for a stout shortblock and DB Performance for a solid head. And while I'm at it, CBRD Speed Factory for such a bad-ass 100% stock-appearing turbo!
http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...inal.sized.jpg We'll see how well it holds boost once we turn it up to ~30 for the e85 tune. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Very nice!
|
Re: beaterX project thread
Man, you always get such awesomely rock solid boost. I love it.
|
Re: beaterX project thread
saw the video of your dyno...your x sounds insane man.
|
Re: beaterX project thread
Very nice work! I'm excited to see some e85 numbers out of it!
|
Re: beaterX project thread
good work! Also, cant wait to see what it does on E85.
|
Re: beaterX project thread
I will need your scalings for those injectors later this summer when my car runs again :)
Grats btw! I am happy you are having good success man, your car is very solid, can't wait to see some E85 numbers! |
Re: beaterX project thread
Awesome man hopefully you'll be down our way soon missed drinking with you on the cruise.

Re: beaterX project thread
Hell hath froze over! Hit play on this video before you scroll down much farther:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db1s-eV-Bd0&hd=1 http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/evox_e85.sized.jpg Car was on E and flashing the gas light leaving my garage, drove about 5 miles and then filled up. I fired it up on the pump gas map then after about 20 seconds switched over to the e85 scaling on the alt-map. Drove around after filling up and dialed in injector scaling, settled on ~850 which still seems way low to me. Stopped by jim's house and we went for a rip. I logged and looked, the car is fine in midrange but lean up top, like high 12's. Gah! Also I smell fuel, alcohol fuel...fuel rail is leaking wtf!? Oh, one of the bolts is loose!???! Yea, minor freak-out moment, but after closer inspection, I realize what I had sorta thought when eyeballing the new injectors: they are taller than stock. The stock spacers were just free to spin and the whole fuel rail was tweaked leaning forward, sitting cockeyed on the injectors. So I snugged it down for the drive home and then checked my garage for just the right spacer. I believe these are old metal center sections out of a 1G shifter base bushing or something, but they fit great! They're metal though, so I hope it doesn't come loose. Also I hope the rail not being cock-eyed helps flow and helps richen things up. I will report back! Initial impressions--the car freaking rips on e85! I left boost alone for now, ~26psi across the board, and after initial logging, I added 2° of timing, it just hits 15°*at like 7500 or so, still very very mild but the car just feels smooth and powerful and absolutely no knock. |
Re: beaterX project thread
NICE!
I was off at 4, and my phone was not rung for this. I R SAD SPAZ |
Re: beaterX project thread
:)

Re: beaterX project thread
YES! Finally, you have been converted...enjoy the corn :) The 1680's idle and drive all good? I will for sure need to "borrow" some initial scalings from you :)
|
Re: beaterX project thread
The fun comes a few months from now when you realize that you haven't given a thought to what fuel from where, knock, different "pump gas" tunes and boost settings because that shit just doesn't matter. :D The car is always set to "kill" for the summer and you never missed an opportunity or worried about pesky things like knock or bad gas. The biggest worry will be "Where is the nearest E85 Station?" which sadly you will memorize about 30 of them before year end and you also start to wonder if the MIL light is broken since it never ever flashes again. :D
Car felt good, can't wait to see that thing run 30+psi and more timing. 475+hp anyone? |

Thanks man! You've been pushing the stuff for years and while I ran I for a while on my 8 it was through winter and always a pita just due to circumstance. I hope it stays convenient for me because as of now it seems way way worth it!
