Haha, my excitement is hard to keep calm as well. Especially when I start watching fp black evo's on youtube. I'll be on that site for hours when I get into it. haha

You are on E85 right? Or will be?

What's your fuel system?

311evo 07-28-2010 07:44 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I've been on e85 for a few years yeah, maybe I should just make a project thread. :P

fuel system will be walbro in tank, 40amp BAP, and fic blumax 1450's.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Nice, I wish I would've listened to Shane and went BAP, but my setup has worked well so far, I haven't had the problems that Lomker has. 1400's here too.

are you doing dual pumps then or no?

Murlo26 07-28-2010 07:47 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Yep, already have a dual pump setup. The 1st pump is a 255 and the second is a ford gt500 pump i think.

Hope it stays that way. I have three fuel pumps. More is better. ;)

Clipped exhaust wheel?

I was curious about that as well. The wheel looks like it was designed for something else and ground down. This is a pre-production version so maybe they will have a prettier looking wheel made later on?

DB Performance 07-30-2010 04:05 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Clipping can be used to make a little more power or to help keeping the exhaust wheel from melting/turbo failure on road race cars that never get a break for the turbo to cool down some.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Honestly not sure....I thought it was supposed to be the same 67mm turbine wheel from the FPred. But it looks a little strange for sure. I guess we will see on the dyno what it does.

Don't think i have ever seen DB performance post, just Shane under Ecoli, is that Danny?

I thought the same thing, haha. I was like.. huh?

Turbo looks nice, inducer wheel looks very similar to the Black in my possession. I'm excited to see your evo rip!

Here's what my FPred exhaust wheel looked like, a bit different...

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...o26/photo7.jpg

So not sure what the deal is...I will ask Robert if he used a different wheel.

Murlo26 07-30-2010 10:17 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I asked robert about the black and here is what he said:

Do me a favor and dont put up a bunch of pics of the turbo since we are still sort of fresh with it at this point. And dont confuse yourself any more than is necessary either :)

R

I will just put it on and see if it makes power, not sure what the deal is with the exhaust wheel, but i sure am confused, lol :)

lol, kind of a shitty response imo.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Yea, but I trust him, he never lets us evo guys down.

I edited the national forums and took down some pics too since he asked.

I am hoping its a bigger new exhaust wheel than the 8/9's have since the exhaust housing is a bit bigger, in theory they should be able to stuff a little bigger one in there :)

goodhart 07-30-2010 11:05 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

That's a real shitty response IMO.

Looks like a really beefy wheel and it looks clipped also like previously stated.

From my understanding, turbine wheels are clipped on street car to reduce spool time. At least that's one reason.

Murlo26 07-30-2010 11:08 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I guess I didn't mind the response, I am just happy I have the final piece to the puzzle...maybe I will make more power this way :)

I am sure if I ask Robert will give me the low down eventually.

I believe so yea...the new OEM oil cooler might not be at DB just yet, but Danny had ordered it. Otherwise, yea everything is here. Just need a quick ceramic coating, I was going to go to grimmspeed but MAP is right next to work so it will save a lot of driving.

Some updated numbers from the other FPblack build...they ran outta fuel so they had to stop...but made decent numbers so far.

Feel free to start a 'FP Black for evoX' thread to compile data in the FI section. I think you're like 1/20 in actual project posts in this thread, LOL.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Heh tell that to trevor ;)

Make sure you orient the clamp that holds the hotside to the center section so that the nut is accessable from the top, closest to the block (point the bolt straight up and down). There's a little gap in the runners of the manifold that make it so its perfectly accessable, in case you ever need to separate the turbine housing from the center section on the car. Not sure how it's oriented stock, I forgot to look.

I think I did at one point, lol, but he was going to go bbk before :)

I honestly never checked the orientation. MAP took it apart for the coating and put it back and DB will be putting it on when the motor goes in, so whatever they do I might be stuck with, lol.

I suppose I could tell them when they are installing it so it is easy if I ever need to do that.

Thanks for the heads up Scheides.

Side note: I spoke with Full-Race, he might cut me a deal on their tubular mani if I show some back to back results vs the ported stocker. I was going to do this over the winter so we will see what happens.

You'll notice like 90%+ of posts are in this thread though, lol.

It is more or less my build blog :)

I still check out the site enough, just don't post much other places because I don't feel like I am skilled enough to, i need to get my hands dirtier and learn my before i do that.

This site has quite a few people that are damn near mechanics.

turbotalon1g 08-04-2010 01:43 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

^It's called DSMs

Driver Slash Mechanic. lol

It seems to common that people are running out of fuel on their setups.

Don't worry make a helpful post esp. if its something simple that no-one has suggested or just say that was what you would do have 2 people think something is a good idea might try sway someone more towards it.

So a little bit closer now?
