Re: 91 Galant VR4
Low 10's on the first time out? Damn you're optimistic!!
|
Re: 91 Galant VR4
If nothing breaks I do not see why not. My red talon if run on a DD would have made about 420-440whp at best and weighed 3200lbs. I was able to run a hand full of low 11's best of 11.06@128mph. I had traction and shifting issues with that car also. So with 200 more whp and 600 lbs less weight a tranny that shifts and I should have traction, that is why I want to be a little optimistic. Every 100lbs is a tenth, I took out 300lbs from the galant back in the day and with no other changes ran almost on the noose 3 tenths faster.

So have you narrowed down a day to go? |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
good 60ft. then no lift to shift 1-2 with no bog or spin you got it! I don't know about the rock, but cedar is the place that hooks.
Good luck. |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
I'm not saying he can't, or won't. I'm just saying it is very optimistic and I hope he does it!
And the reason I see it as optimistic is because, to me, a vehicle with that much done to it, and it's first trip to the track since when?, and the first time driving that car at the level it is at now, the probability of something not going quite right to run a low 10 is definitely there. Not saying he can't or won't at all. Didn't mean to come across as Debbie Downer or something. Just saying you're optimistic, and that's good, and I hope you tear it up out there!! |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
It is tough to go fast, especially on a new setup. The more power I made, the harder it was to get a smooth clean pass. I'd guess some low 11's to start with some crazy high traps, and then low 10's the second time out with a little dialing in. :D

Re: 91 Galant VR4
I am going to Rock Falls this saturday, the 7th for the test day, they should do good track prep. I am swapping the good tires on tomorrow and taking the car out for 1 or 2 good rips threw all 4 gears to see what it can do. I will have the camera mount on and recording for this.

Re: 91 Galant VR4
Wish I could make it out but I have to work. Good luck and can't wait to see some videos.

Re: 91 Galant VR4
Yes the setup is new, yes I only have a little seat time at this power level, yes I am optimistic about what I would like to get done at the track. If I take this thing out tomorrow and its spinning all over and/or grinding gears I will not go to the track, period. Thanks for the comments, I really do like having input on this stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92HWhESlfX0&hd=1 You should've put some more gas in and run one more pass. You were getting quicker and quicker and I have no doubt you would've seen a 10 Quote:
Make sure you get some video |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
Thanks 1quick4 for having this video, still. This time I plan to have 15 gallons of E-85 on hand, or more if I can find a few more gas cans.

Re: 91 Galant VR4
^I don't think I have anything going on saturday and I wouldn't mind seeing this.
I think you will be able to do it, unless you have some horseshit tires on and if you had 5 lug I would offer my wheels unless you do, then I'm offering my wheels and tires. Anywho, Good luck. |

Re: 91 Galant VR4
Keep an eye on the weather, it looks to be full of patchy shit storms.
Awesome on the DRs. |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
It will still spin like a bitch John. :) You'll get traction in 3rd.

Re: 91 Galant VR4
If I were you I'd go regardless of shifting issues or questionable traction. Who the hell are you trying to impress? The internet? Screw us, do it for yourself. The car's ready so just go. Have fun and good luck.

Re: 91 Galant VR4
The intronets is a hard place to impress. I can deal with traction, if I do not have it then I turn the power down. But shifting with this set up is key, if this thing falls out of boost between gears it will be slow. And I have driven a many DSM at the track with shifting issues, it ends up being a bad day all around. I have done everything I can on my end to ensure this tranny will shift at 9500rpm and handle the power the car makes. But if for some un known reason it does not work then I do not want to spend the $70 plus fuel and time to go to a track. I would just head down to Uni Saturday night, and puts around and show the car off at Porkys.
