Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I question more the amount of timing they can put in. I showed Shane the timing they say they are running and he says he has trouble running the amount they do on pump gas.
I think it is some local New York war between tuners and now all the new york people think "their" tuner is better and the local tuners there have just inflated their shit beyond reasonable, like the florida dynos. |

Your second sentence is what's relevant to me. Would GST, AMS, or Shane run 30psi on pump? |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I don't think we never said you couldn't but as most good tuners even say in the espec threads...why you running 30psi, it only takes one bad tank of gas and kablamo!
No thanks, no good tuner would run that high of boost on any 93 oct. Regardless, even if they did, they would have to keep the timing low to compensate so I don't think anymore power would be made. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Keep in mind everyone, some places have WAY better pump gas then the piss that MN gets.

Regardless, that kind of tuning is still very much on the edge of safe... |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
So I was a lil upset my turbo got held up, but it still isn't needed yet, so not an issue yet.
I just got these two emails from Robert, second one was funny I thought! 1st: Turbos are done and sitting there waiting on the line R&D to wrap up. Might have that handled by tomorrow, we are working on it. 2nd: I have been "hitching" rides to work for the last 2 days, and been unable to goto lunch becuase my EVOX is apart for oil feed line development :( Send me a cheeseburger! So good news, I am sure they are working fast since his personal X is down because of it! |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
LOL that's funny :D

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Initial Black numbers from the 3rd tester...
http://i630.photobucket.com/albums/u...lack-17psi.jpg Here is what they posted: Initial update,,, 17psi with 93pump--- 382hp..... this is going to be fun. Got too late to continue on... A fresh set of plugs and back to the dyno we go!! Spool-up was better than I anticipated,,, I think we touched 17psi @ 3800 or so,,, I'll post a log shortly. First thing I noticed was having to add additional fuel from the previous FpRed tune to keep afr's identical,, a very good sign of things to come. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Are you going to be at DB this afternoon at all? Let's pull the end of that one rod off the crank :P

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Hmmm, true that. I am pretty sure it is still on the stock ECU. Perhaps they did a 3.5" intake though in anticipation of the MAF maxing.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Danny was kind enough to check the bearing on the rod that snapped, it was all good...so it was not an oiling issue at all. Just power, it happens. Makes me feel good though, so mystery solved.
Stopped up at DB (obviously, since the above statement)...dropped off the new cosworth rod bearings (now DB can start putting in the new rods/pistons and get the show on the road) my new SSP master cylinder rev 2 and the SSP relay pack which replaces a bunch of relays that can possibly fail. They changed around some stuff and have a new engine building room where the office used to be, its nice. I got to see the new AMS spec JE pistons too...Scheides/Kracka/Spaz were all there too by the way for Kracka's tune...Scheides suggest i take some pics of the pistons so here you go... http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/22553d0f.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/dbca4b3a.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/532fca91.jpg Nothing too crazy, but I love to see new stuff :) My head is basically done, they had to get a few new shim buckets so they are still waiting on that, shouldn't be too much longer. The tune on the 6th of August is optimistic, but you never know, we will see what happens next week, should be lots of progress hopefully. Hmmm, think thats about it for updates. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I wonder if they are any different? lol.

I bought my car at a good time last year: August. I think that skewed my expectations. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I asked Danny and he said maybe, it all depends on if they can work undisturbed...that is the real problem.
Right now I am just hoping for a mid august finish date. I've accepted the 6th will be tough, not zero chance though I don't think because they have two weeks and it should only be like 2 solid days of work to finish if they were completely undisturbed banging it out (which won't happen). Like I said, we will just have to wait and see. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
The dishes seem to be deeper on the AMS ones. I bet they are similar but I am sure they aren't the same.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I would think someone would've noticed by now if they were the same piston, lol. There are plenty of tuners that have used both I am sure...but who knows, it wouldn't surprise me. I am pretty sure these are the same setups both shops used for their evo 8/9 pistons.
Either way they should both be good for all the power we plan on making :D |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
You should show up at an event one of these days. I'll have you take my car for a spin. I'm pretty impressed with the last few mods...driveshaft bushings and the alignment/corner balance.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I have avoided going to events just because it just makes me miss the car even more, lol. Not that reading forums helps but that helps pass time at work ;)
When you going up to DB next? I will be dropping the FPblack off there soon if you are dropping your car off up there, coordination perhaps. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
From Robert today :)
We did finish the line on friday, making some up today, can send out your turbo today also. R |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Still haven't gotten a tracking number yet, they charged my credit card though, so I assume FP has shipped me the black :)
I also emailed Shane today curiously about breaking in the motor when the time comes, what kind of boost levels we can run...MAP sensor stuff...etc etc. After one of his responses I couldn't help but type, "just curious, did they start on the rods/pistons yet?" I was going to wait until friday or monday to ask, but since i was already exchanging emails with shane i figured i would eek that in. He replied... All the clearances on your motor have been measured and checked and the rings filed, the rods/pistons are going in now. We should have the head back today or tomorrow. So it sounds like it is moving along perfectly! They move good once they have all the parts I guess, lol :) |

Never said it would. I will be happy to run you for fun and compare :) Honestly, the X and the 8/9's have a really different feel to them, the X's are more like honda's, lol. Edit: Guess i didn't know you were going all out, thought you were just doing drops ins and the black ;) |

I figured I would do it right the first time. :P the first thing I'm planning to do is run the 1/8th at grove creek on the 28th. assuming we're both good to go by then, you're definitely invited. :P |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I am probably down assuming the motor is broken in by then :)
We should see if Shane can squeeze us both in for our power tunes before the cookout :) So we can have great comparable results! Assuming by an act of god both our cars are good and ready :) |

Hinted to me or Shane, lol. I asked him if he would be free the friday before the cookout for a more ballsy tune, don't think I ever got a response.
OH crap, yea just realized that is teh cookout day...i gotta go to that, lol. I think there is a day early september at rockfalls i was planning on going to though. |
