Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Sounds good, hopefully things will work out for you getting it to the track. Don;t beat on it too much with the luck going on something will happen before you get out there.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I'd rather make it reliable then not.
BTW, when I did the alt. wiring..I disconnected the wire going to the red terminal on the alt, then tapped off the stock wires, and got them outta the way for now. I also pulled the fuse from the fusebox for the alt. Then hooked up the new wire from that alt, then ran it back to a 80A fuse, then into the batt side of the switch, like diagrams I found. What's weird now, is that the battery now charges at like 14.6-15.6 and fluxuates from there..all this, found just from idling today (read it on my turbo timer)..is this really ok? Before it was only around 13.4-14.2, which I know is low.. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Jesus Swift, by the time you've reached your goal I'll be 30. Then you'll wonder, "Why the hell didn't I just do all this shit right away and have fun for ten years with it, instead of waiting."

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Because..not everyone is sponsored by a shop, or has a bottomless wallet.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
14.6 is fine.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I know 14.6 is..but..the 15.4 and perhaps a little higher?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Step yo game up son!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
You live in savage..were? And my game is as stepped up as I am willing to right now. At the moment, i've lost interest in the car as of late. So, whatever. I'll drive it, and get to the track when I feel like it..perhaps next wednesday to run a stupid 12, and shut everyone up.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Battery voltage changes your fueling too....
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
erm....shit. You saying I need a retune?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
He's saying you need stable voltages.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
well, it is pretty stable in that range..jsut higher then before..and my AF's before cruising, where like 16-17 and as soon as you punch it it goes back down towards 12's..now, I dunno..I haven't tested it yet.
Also, the crank pulley was rotating on it'self, so chad was nice enough to loan me his fluidampr. I am guessing that whatever the timing WAS set at, could perhaps be off when it was tuned? Who knows. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Yes your dam right Im nice enough!
YEah your base timing could be off. I had it happen to me once with my eclipse because of the dampner. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Well, I wonder if NOW if I went to tune, i'd make up some hp?

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
So, now windows don't work, and the power locks dont. I checked the 15A fuse under the dash..it's ok. Checked the "under hood" fuse box..behind my front bumper, and the 30 A WDO fuse is ok. I was doing all this with the key on, not running. I touched all the relays, and the far corner one for the ALT was warm to the touch, compared to the others..why is that? Any ideas on what else the issue could be? Aside from disconnecting the alt power, then running it straight back to the battery through the 80a fuse, and pulling the one out of the fuse box under the hood, what could have changed? Should I have left the fuse plugged in, just unhooked the one side?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Most likely your alt(the regulator inside) is taking a dump. Cars do weird things and have abnormal symptoms when alt's are dying. Replace it and I'm guessing all this will go away.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Weird. The alt works just fine though, and charges right around were it should. the alt was also just replaced not more then..a year or two ago.
I'm curious as to why both the windows and locks dont work.. |

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
ok, lets say you are right for a minute. How does that fix the fact the windows or locks dont work?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Like I said, WEIRD things happen when the alt's regulator isn't functioning normally. My car did similar when my alt was dying, and had other weird things happen on customers cars over the years when alt's are dying. After I replaced all those alt's.. back to normal, everything works, and no weird symptoms.
Forget the locks and windows for a moment and change the alt. If the windows and locks still don't work, get out of dsm's. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Check your alt fuse too.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Fuses, relays. etc. There's a chance too if the voltage was being unregulated that it could have spiked and possibly fried something.

I've watched too many people have a symptom or two, have a logical path to take in regards to diagnosing, only to chase all sorts of other things first. I just wanted to point to one thing for him to check first, then go from there. |

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
alt fuse? I pulled that..is there a different fuse on that box that I should have looked at?
this all was found after grabbing dinner in the car yesterday..it ran, drove fine (was running a little different AF's), and the windows didn't work. Now, with the car off, only the key on, I see the windows not working, power locks not working. Remember, when I re-ran the wire from the alt straight to the batt side of the battery cut off switch (using a 80a fuse) I pulled the stock 80a fuse on the fuse box under the hood. As far as I can tell, there's nothing else that changed. looking at the WDO fuse, ALT fuses are ok, and the alt relay gets warm (prolly doin it's thing) even when the car is off, and the alt isn't charging the system. Who knows at this point. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
The alt fuse is a big mofo that is actually bolted down in the fuse box. Are you sure you checked it?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
ok, just did some research, tested a theory, and it fixed it.
When rewiring the alt to the rear, I pulled the main black alt fuse sitting at an angle on that fuse box, then re-tightened the bolts. BUT, other things also get power from that fuse, and because the fuse wasn't there to bridge that connection things didn't work, being the windows, locks, and whatever else. I went out, put the fuse back in, and instead pulled the connector with the 2 8ga. white wires on the one side, and taped that end off, but reassembled the bolts back into place, this time with the fuse in place. Now, everything works :) |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
WoW

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
You're welcome
/pats self on back =D |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Wow what?
And I actually ran and checked this before I read your post Joe, but you can take credit if you'd like. :D |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I dont want the credit, I NEED IT. THANK YOU.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
lol ok.
EVERYONE!! LET IT BE KNOWN! JOE HAS OFFICIALLY FIXED MY CAR!! It now not only works, but works WELL!! makes power! Pulls hard! and even has a stripper that comes out of the glovebox..area..that gives me road head. How he did this without even being present I dont know, but I frankly don't care. Car is better then ever before! Thanks JOE! |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
So it was the alternator fuse, like everyone was saying?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
ya, me pulling it. Nothing was blown, but the fact that I pulled it, made other things not work.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
See Signature. lol
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I've now made your signature..3 times? Perhaps I'll see ya next wednesday..make me up a lil bed...
