Re: House Projects
Looks nice! I'd like to do this at some point, but maybe ill just wait till the next house....
|
Re: House Projects
Looks really good, great work!
|
Re: House Projects
Looks great man. Make sure and report back with how it lasts. That anti-slip stuff should help when it gets wet.
|
Re: House Projects
Went out there in socks today, it's definitely grippy, feels like sand grits on top, but like glass in between the grits. The clear coat also smoothed everything out really well.
One bad thing I just realized, it was about 100% humidity here yesterday, and getting cooler at night didn't help things, so condensation was on the floor near the edges, it was wet this morning. Sooo, really hoping that doesn't peel up. I'm going to wait a couple weeks before I do the third stall, and if the edges don't look good, I'll cut them out with a razor and redo them at the same time. This time with a dehumidifier in the garage and seal around the garage door better. |
Re: House Projects
New deck layout. Here is what my dad and I are planning. I am excited to finally get something back there.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps219f1430.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps5payfqek.jpg Might end up going to 18 or 16ft wide instead of 20 but I prefer the bigger deck. |
Re: House Projects
Looks good.
Bitches love big decks. |
Re: House Projects
Make sure and keep any bushes around it trimmed, makes your deck look bigger.
|
Re: House Projects
Dont let the wood get too moldy, def look into protecting your wood from the elements.
|
Re: House Projects
LOL, not sure if the last one is another dick reference or not lol.
|
Re: House Projects
I don't think anyone does.

Re: House Projects
Finally got the driveway to the top of the house mod list. My neighbor is also doing his driveway and offered to help with ours since it would save us money to do them together. We added a parking pad, so we should be able to get 4-5 cars in the driveway now, and move the car in and out of the garage without shuffling cars in and out of the driveway. (I know its not a big deal, but it will be great!)
So this weekend he borrowed his buddies skidloader, and we ripped out both old driveways, put in crushed cement/asphalt and graded them. Ready for the asphalters to come in and finish up the job. The old cement, that has seen many better days. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-D...802_075912.jpg Picked up the slabs one at a time and dropped them to break them up. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-p...902-MOTION.gif https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V...802_081150.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-i...802_085044.jpg This is where we stand now, graded and compacted, just waiting for blacktop. Supposed to be next week. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Z...802_174851.jpg |
Re: House Projects
Nice, that should be a huge upgrade.
I need to start taking some pictures of our place. Nothing huge, but nice improvements. Been working on the lawn quite a bit, it was basically all weeds. Patched and re-painted a few walls that were beat up, took out the janky fountain thing in the front yard and turned it into a fire pit in the back yard. Planted a ton of new grass. Next up will be a small re-model of the upstairs bathroom, and framing in the downstairs bathroom. |
Re: House Projects
Jeebus. Wish I had buddies that just had kick ass equipment like that sitting around I could borrow!

Re: House Projects
That's badass. Nice work rosey.
I've been shoveling old mulch from around our house, even just sitting as mud it looks a lot nicer. |
Re: House Projects
That will look nice and clean once its all done! More parking ftw.
I suppose I should post up my last update. Been doing landscaping this summer, added another garden next to the house and raised all the rock around the rear and side of the house another 6 inches. Added some wood to contain the rocks and designed a flower garden. Got 2 more big pine trees to finish my wall of pines too. Re: House Projects
Nice work on the landscaping!
|
Re: House Projects
Looks great man. Maybe it's just me, but the before pic isn't working.
|
Re: House Projects
Rosey - you will love the extra parking!
Peter, looks good. More trees are always great to block out the neighbors and traffic! |
Re: House Projects
Nice work Peter. We have to have some gardenstyle time again!
|
Re: House Projects
So this is happening right now! Wish I was at home watching haha...

Re: House Projects

Re: House Projects
As I said in chat, 2 freshly broken dsms would fit perfectly on that right side. Max utilization of new driveway.

Re: House Projects
Very cool man!

Re: House Projects
Since its finally summer, decided to get going on some misc projects I've had in mind for a while, mostly focused around the garage.
Step one, kickplate. Old one was rotted to nothing. New one all sealed up nice. Still need to paint and/or replace the door trim that has rotted away but this is a start. http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7776.sized.jpg Did some shopping, found a good deal on the Nest Protect (they're back on sale again), works dandy, and since my house is so small, one is probably fine. http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7804.sized.jpg Next, I saved some metal from the alley...neighbors were putting out a 5000W electric heater into the alley and I offered to give it a good home. Checked out garage panel and voila, room for more in the family: http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7762.sized.jpg $100 worth of breaker, box, and 10/3 cable later, voila: http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7835.sized.jpg All wired up and testing: http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7825.sized.jpg This is my first foray into wiring 240V personally, but I've seen about 100 circuits wired at work now so I knew it would be easy. Not sure how effective it will be at either one-time use or just keeping the temp stable at 50° or whatever I set it to....but I did the math and in the dead of winter, if I need to run this thing for 24 hours straight it will cost me about $15. Not cheap but I'm hoping it is powerful enough to run on/off and keep things warm in there and maybe powerful enough to use just it during wintertime projects. I will keep my trusty gas-powered torpedo heater just in case (for augmented heating). http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7834.sized.jpg While I was crawling around up in the garage attic I found this: http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7821.sized.jpg It's an insulated panel to cover the huge hole up into the attic. The hole that's been there for the 9 years I've lived here. How I've never seen it or looked for it...idk, it was way in the back. Maybe it got shoved there during the inspection or maybe the previous owner never used it...idk but I'm a bit pissed. The rest of the garage is fully insulated....all those long winter car project sessions...bleh. Having this in place would have helped. http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7822.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7824.sized.jpg All that crawling around in the attic and some relaxing time at home derpot got me thinking, sure would be nice to have easier access up there. So, the today spazzy swung by and I put him to work--along with jax the friendly neighborhood greyhound: http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7829.sized.jpg We put up a nice aluminum attic ladder! I have proceeded to start to organize my garage sale parts and am hoping to get things nice and cleaned up out there as time goes on. Turbo approves: http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7832.sized.jpg Still need to seal around the edges (maybe some trim? idk) and clean up the shims, but all done for now...oh, and need one of those insulator-tents for it, they didn't have those in stock. http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7833.sized.jpg Next project will be to begin sealing up around the wooden garage door...leveling, new bottom seal, sides, and top. Gotta keep that new heater running as little as possible :) http://www.scheides.com/albums/house...7773.sized.jpg Thanks spazzy for the help today! |
Re: House Projects
spaz ftw!!
|
Re: House Projects
No problem! That latter is pretty spiffy, Turbo liked it too.

Re: House Projects
That heater should be just fine to take the chill out, my rents had one in their big 3 car garage and in an hour or so it raised the temp in winter to sweatshirt territory. Their garage was attached to the house though.
Good progress! That ladder doesnt look fun to assemble in the sweaty heat weve been having! |
Re: House Projects
Oops, forgot to post the pic of the actual ladder:

Re: House Projects
Looking good! That should make working on the cars this winter a little more enjoyable!

Yea you can tell in the one pic I was basically soaked in sweat, didn't realize it though. The heater was worse than the ladder since I had to be up in the attic drilling holes and pulling cable. I showed the pic to my mom and told her I was a little off my rocker to be installing a heater during the height of summer, but then again it probably beats doing it in the dead of winter! I like to think of it as banking heat energy into the garage so it stays extra warm once it gets cold :) |
Re: House Projects
Garage heaters are sweet. I need to install one. Think I'm going Natural Gas though, seemed a bit cheaper to operate than electric.

I will say though, I ran my air compressor, the heater, the air conditioner, stereo, and the garage door, and all lights all at the same time w/o blowing a breaker. Pretty sweet, must be right on the ragged edge. |
Re: House Projects
Just put the same ladder in my garage. used to have to climb a ladder then hop on a couple cabinets to get to the attic ha ha its much easier now

Re: House Projects
Deck stuff!
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps4anty1df.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...pslkplrofw.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps9neuygy5.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psexcicmfp.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps1h3p0lwr.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...pszzuvbd85.jpg Took quick pictures, too tired from digging footings and carry wood and concrete bags since like 7am. Made good progress today, need to wait for the city to inspect footings then we can pour those and start stairs and decking. We didn't want too much weight on the temp posts which is why we are holding off on the decking and waiting until we get posts up. Can't wait to grill out on this, its way bigger than i expected, the plans were misleading haha. |
Re: House Projects
More progress on deck:
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psz5zeurrl.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psezlzeqwo.jpg Also, finally got gutters all around! The house didn't come with them and I have been putting it off. Got the bigger downspouts and also the leaf guard stuff. Feels good to be getting house stuff accomplished lately. If I only could do the same on the car. Didn't bother with more gutter pics because well, they are gutters haha. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps7gsficry.jpg |
