Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects

for bending pipe I leave the die surface ruff with no lubrication, and I polish the shoe surface and apply plenty of grease on the shoe and pipe while bending. I have a Pro Tools bender that we made into a 12volt hydraulic/electric.

We figured it took about 250lbs on a 3 1/2 foot bar to bend a 1 5/8" chrome moly tube.

Any thoughts for front to back braces similar to factory?

Now you just need Vassil's new k-member to drop a little more weight off the front. :D

Thanks for all the feedback. I’m going to rock it how it is. It’s a lot stronger than it looks. The motor is supported by 3 other mounts too, and the motor can be considered a part of the system. I can jack the car up by the front bar and there is minimal deflection, without the bolt installed on the roll stop. No worries here! The car is off to paint tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to polish the shoe surface and experiment. Do you know what the radius is for your die? My benders die radius is very small at 5” and I’m sure it adds to the problem. I see the JD2’s have a 6.5”. I don't have plans to make it hydraulic, unless I start getting sick of ratcheting.

I'm going to run the dogbox. The other trans has a stripped 4th gear.

Pretty sure it was a shep stage 4 right mark?

It was a Jacks trans evo 3 gear cluster (1-4 double syncro). Self built with a TRE center diff spool and VCE clamp.

^Did that have the rip grip insert? If so, do you still have it?

I took out the front subframe so the painter could get everything on the fire wall. And to clean up, rebuild and paint the subframe. The car will be ready to be picked up next week!

Sub frame is out. Time to call Vassil. Looking good. Is the tube sticking out the front for a tow hook?

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects

Why? Because racecar! Yeah that's a tow hook.

A couple of update pics, It's painted. I need to get it home now to get some parts on it!

I rebuilt the cross member too. Degreasing & power washing it took forever! The energy suspension bushings show up tomorrow to finish it off. Then I need to get it back on the car so I can pick it up.

Super Bleeder!! 02-12-2013 08:29 PM

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects

You could replace that heavy complex looking crossmember with a piece of steel tube with some brackets! This car doesn't need to turn anyway, right? :)

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects

Cross member looks clean! Did you get it powdercoated?
