Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
That cage looks nice. Looks like a tight fit, how you gonna get in and out of that thing.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Just like normal with a roll cage. Put one foot in and fall over the bars and pull your other leg in.

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Got my motor back from the machine shop. Everyone else already has there's back, but I am more excited.
Anywho, see pics here as the build progresses. http://www.lse-performance.com/gallery/6g72TT |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
It looks really good. You are offically way ahead of me in the "fast stealth" project.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Is John's talon having the rust repaired?
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Yes, the pictures were taken for a body shop quote. Actually the entire car is being resprayed a different color.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
What color? White I hope all fast DSM's are white!
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Extreme has a white talon, so I will try for silver with a black roof.

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Good choice, white is so overrated these days...

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
As another weekend comes to an end, the manditory picture post is required.
I managed to finally modify, replace, and tweak my passanger side window. Now I have an enclosed cockpit! 20 months of a board proping up the window was long enough. I also got the intake side of a head nearly finished. Just have to pop out the valve guides and make sure it is all even with emery cloth. http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0046.sized.jpg I figure 1-2 hours left on this head as far as intake side. The exhaust side should go much more quickly. Then 1 more head after that, and im done. I figure I have less than 30 hours left (as I already have 15 into it). Then john finished all of his welding on the "top" side of his cage. Next up is the frame under it, then its sheetmetal time!! http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0044.sized.jpg Ryan got all of his rings filed/gapped. Once we get all of our rods and pistons (ryan and I) back from 'treatment' then we'll be assembling his motor. Probably next weekend, as its a 1 week turnaround. Thanks for looking all, until next update.... |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Good stuff man! Are both of these cars going to be ready to run in the Spring? It'll be sweet to see how they perform
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Yes both will be done by salt out :).
Simple goals. I want to beat 13.0 (previous best in this chassis). And john wants to beat 11.0 (pervious best in his chassis). ;). |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Nice progress! Why are there valve guides still protruding into the intake tract in your head? I wish I had a bigger shop so I could have my car in there.

Looking good guys! I like the cage John! looks strong! Good deal. Wish I was farther along on my project.

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
roll cage is nearly done. Just needs finish welding, and then its to the swingout bars.
After that, harness mounts, window net mounts, and putting the interior back together. Nice tight fitting door bars ;). http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0014.sized.jpg Drivers side bar: http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0015.sized.jpg |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Front view. Notes: I am leaning, the shop is a huge mess, and the windshield is out obviously. The top "tint" on the factory windshield will cover that halo bar nicely ;). http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0011.sized.jpg
Ryan's motor is also built ;). I told him to get me pictures of the green beast so he can have a photo album. |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Damn! That is looking nice. Custom roll cages are the way to go. I can't wait to see how that turns out with the interior in.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
I should have the cage finish welded by tomorrow night and Josh should have the interior all back in sometime next week pending the holidays and what not. I am happy with how it turned out.

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Looks great, I know now where I am taking my cars to get cages now.

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
That there is the icing on the cake. Lets see some finished pics.

We need to finish the harness mounts, I need to paint the cage, and re-assemble the interior. |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Painting rocks!
http://www.lse-performance.com/galle..._001.sized.jpg http://www.lse-performance.com/galle..._001.sized.jpg http://www.lse-performance.com/galle..._001.sized.jpg Just have to wait for the primer coat to dry, then its flat black time :). I am doing good, no overspray outside of my makeshift "paint booth". or as John would say "There isn't a giant haze in here, good job." |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Damn, you take masking off seriously. I just sprayed my cage and held a piece of cardboard behind it. ;)
What's that cage certified down to? The flash blanks it out. You should just weld the heads to the block and hit it with a 500 shot. That'll get you in the 8's. :D |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Yeah, the sticker goes around 1/4 the pipe so its a pain. Its certified to 8.50 or 150mph.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
nice
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Silly question, but why do you guys have those yellow translucent "walls" up?
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Those are welding shields. They protect the paint of the other vehicles from the rays of the welder. They also help contain the welding to "one spot"
Update: The rear speakers and all of the rear paneling fit back in, so thats all back in place. I had to modify the headliner a bit, but that is back as well. I also got to keep my full a-pillars. So far, with the roll cage, all that I have lost has been my windshield visors!! Full interior street monster, here we come :). Just have to make my sub-marine harness mount, cut the carpet to fit, put in the sill plates for the doors, put in my center pieces. Then just mount the stereo and install a EMS/wideband and the interior is done! Oh, and paint my swing-outs. |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Seen the car in person Looks awesome. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the final product on the road.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Nice work... Definitly looks good!
I noticed that he was using a TIG welder in one of your pictures. Is that necessary in order to get it certified? I know TIG is/can be stronger and is a lot cleaner, just curious if MIG can be used? |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
MIG welding is an approved method for mild steel cages, but on Chrome moly cages (which this is) you need to use a TIG welder.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Got any close-ups of the swing outs? I'm still trying to find some prefabbed ones I like that don't cost a million bucks.
|

Oh, and the cage looks great. I love when you can put the interior back in and it looks somewhat stock. |

Here is the best one I could find...

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Got a nice close up view and gotta say it looks sweet! Nice job guys!
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Thanks guys. I am trying to finish up the interior tonight, then I'll get some "final" pictures.

http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0018.sized.jpg Then you pull the pin, it goes like this: http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0020.sized.jpg Voila! All because it pivots on this: http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0019.sized.jpg Or you unbolt it and put it in the trunk :). All the pics can be seen here: http://www.lse-performance.com/gallery/Cage I need to do some steam cleaning of the interior, but that isn't needed for the car to "run". I also have to make a radio bezel, find my ash tray and put that in, make a switch panel, and carpet where the rear seats use to be. But I am calling it "done" for now. |

Hellz yes! Looks awesome man! Do you have a date in mind that you're aiming to have it done by?
