I was thinking and shared the same thoughts with someone else I know on this. I wonder if it would have taken this long if those stranded at the Superdome and elsewhere, would have been middle, upper-middle and upper class Americans. I'm not prejudging but does anyone think that Racism played a part? Just a thought.

Maybe we should have loaded the Superdome with 18 yr old rich white girls from Aruba, then they would have had 24 Chinook helis power lift the whole building off it's foundation and carry them all to safety. :rolleyes:

Yep, i was proud to see that as well. I think actually at least 10 different nations vowed to help out. That number could have risen overnight. Germany, China, France, Japan, South Korea were among some of the ones i remembered. It's a military action right now before we can even think of accepting help. Some chemical plant exploded earlier. One hell of an explosion they felt for miles. Don't know if it was American insurgents or what. The governor of LA said to the troops, "Know how to kill!" Dam straight i thought. Take these fuckers out for good.

I think we should really be helping ourselves if ASIA is ready to help us. That is a pretty sad sign. I just spent an hour reading this and mostly everyone has valid, understandable and relative points. I don't handle death or change well and even though this doesn't directly relate to me, I find myself thinking about it quite a bit during the day while drive, at work etc.
It comes down to people being smarter. THINKING is good. If I was told a huge storm of any kind was coming, I would be outta there 10 minutes after being told. I could see why someone wouldn't abandon their home though. Some people would rather die at home with a natural event such as this. Prayers & wishes go out to everyone :) |

I just donated money to the red cross. I am having a hard time with going out of town to have fun this weekend when Americans are dieing in filthy, flooded, diseased, dangerous streets in the south. No one deserves to suffer or die that way, well no one except the looters (looting non survival stuff) and others who are harming people. I wish there was more I could do...

That's great of you to do that. I think everyone should stay home for the Holidays to remember those who have been lost and those that are in extemely hardship. When i ate supper last night i had a rough time enjoying it and thinking of the people that don't have anything or very little right now.
Yes, i heard the mayor of NO. Man was he pissed off at the government. He was cussing pretty big with some of it uncensored. I don't blame him one bit. 5 full days now. Bush spoke around 10am from Alabama. I didn't get to catch it. We're fucked if there is ever another catastophe like this or even worse because nobody up top seems to know what to do. All we know how to do is bomb countries. |

the government is just dropping crap in areas and not telling anyone. They are scared to have their vechiles mobbed. But damn, this is some SERIOUSLY bad stuff.

Things would be a hell of a lot better if the people would stop shooting at the rescue people! There are 7,000 troops heading in today, so that should get things back in order. The people don't realize that the mob mentality they have is actually hurting them. If they wouldn't mob the buses and aid, then it would be a lot better. Law and order is the big thing missing so that people can do their jobs.

We tried donating online via the red cross but the site wasn't able to process anything. It's flooded. We are probably going to hit up the salvation army and red cross stuff at the fair on sat and drop some cash in it.

Biggest event for NO, Mardi Gras, where much needed tourist income would come from is doubtfull, to even be considered to happen. Grains not getting out of the country from the midwest (all the way up the mississippi river) Prices for the US will Plummit and kill farmes pocket books, while prices in other countries will sky rocket due to shortage. The list of those effected all over continues to grow. It's just amazing. I've been home all day and glued to the TV. |

The owner of the company MattD and I work at offered to match, twice over, anything employees donated to the relief effort in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. :D

That's awesome busineses are doing that. The company I work for will probably donate around the million mark. They better. They make all sorts of shit for NASA, the Army, and other goverment companies. Being a multi billion $ company they need to step up.

DSMSTYLE- Yes, it's gonna have a huge impact. Many people i know don't listen to me but those are the same people that never said gas would hit $3.50(and it is now). They think some big tornado just hit those 3 states. Mississipi alone is losing a half million $ a day in lost taxes from the casios on the gulf. This may have took a direct hit on 3 states but overall, it will hit all 50. Technically it will impact any country we do business with as well because the American consumer is pinched therefore cutting expenses in many areas. We know which countries we buy a great deal of shit from! They need all the help we can give them down there. If each and every person in the U.S. could donate just $20, that would be roughly 6 BILLION and we know there are people out there that can donate way more than that. It's just an example. |

Yes, i saw that too. That's great to see. Even countries that we're in tension with are offering help. Heck, Fidal Castro even offered to send help. Perhaps this will pull the nations closer together. Who knows.

The only thing is that we have yet to accept any outside help. I think they're still assessing the damage and what we actually need outside of monetary donations to the Red Cross. I believe those trucks from Mexico are already coming and being accepted, as is any help that other countries already have placed in the US prior to the storm.

Here's just a random bit for people to think about.
I don't know how man y of you consider yourselves Religious (specifically Christian), but my dad told me about this and I thought it was rather interesting. In the Bible there is a story about two cities, Sodom and Gamora. These two cities were full of sin; sex, gambling, drinking, adultry- things we may not consider to bad now, but were HORRIBLE back then. So anyways, in the story God sees all the sin in these two cities and decides to wipe out the two cities. So he sends a storm, and more or less it rained fire down on them and both cities were destroyed. About a week or two before the Hurricane shit started, before they even realized it was coming, my dad (who is really religous) was listening to radio sermons and the preachers were talking about how today our world has dropped to such low standards and that there is so much sin that it wouldn't be far from reality if God pulled another stunt and took out some of the most sinful cities, possibilities (in their minds) being cities such as LA, Vegas, NEW ORLEANS, etc. Since New Orleans is below sea level, it would be the perfect explination. It's interesting, whether or not you are very religous. I don't know exactly how much of everything I believe, but coming from the side of me thats been brought up believing every word of it, it makes sense. It pisses me off though. Why the fuck would God want to do that. What about all the innocent lives he would be taking. If he wants to wipe out the bad people fine, all the murderers and rapists, fine, take them, but why take all the innocent lives? Why destroy EVERYTHING? Especially now? Our country is already at war, and we are constantly on the look out for terrorism. This just puts us in an even weaker position. I don't think we should pull all of the troops out, I think a few are necissary so that stays under control, but as of right now why is the disaster on our home ground not prioritized as much as it should be? It doesn't seem right. |

Donated through my company. I think my company has donated around 200k now. I'm not going to state my opinions on everything because some people really are taking things personally and I try to steer clear of drama. I wish for the best for everyone down there.

The US hasn't responded to a lot of the offers. We (FEMA, the government, etc.) are still assessing what is really needed. I think they're right in not saying yes to everything off the bat and only accepting was is needed.
