Re: My progress...Part Deux!
No, it is a cold plating process. I just don't remember the brand name. Electro plating requires electricity.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Last time I went to Cedar Falls, I camped at the track in my Jeep. A little hard on the back, but cheap and it gets the job done.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Well, I got the car all put back together last night. I put fluids in and double checked everything. I went to start the car and it made about 1/2 revolution and then a hard metallic clunk. It stopped the rotation of the starter. My heart skipped a beat! I was able to turn it back and forth about 1/16 of a rotation before it would clunk and just stop dead.
After some investigation it turns out that the twin disk clutch is hitting my Taboo clutch fork. Not good!! Now I have to tear the tranny back out of the damn thing and either clearance the shift fork or put a stocker back in. Grrrrrrrrr..... I can't work on it tonight, so hopefully I can get it going Tues. School starts on Wed., so that night is out. Third time having the tranny out is a charm, right? |

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
If it's not one thing it's another... Crossing my fingers for you!
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Yea for me it took a few tries to for the tranny to get right.
Wow that is not a fun deal though, just reminds me what I got out of. Hope thats all that the problem is! Good Luck! |
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Dam! that sucks. I hate putting the tranny in on just ONE try. What's with the twin disk clutch anyway? What's wrong with a ACT or even better yet, a SouthBend clutch?
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
I had an ACT 2900, but was not cranked about the pedal pressure. My left knee is messed up a bit from a motorcycle racing accident. The twin disk is lighter pedal pressure than a 2600 by a ways and will hold more power than an ACT 3200.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Man, it only took me 2x to do my tranny, what's your problem man!?!?! ;)
Mine was a flywheel resurfacing issue, it was a *bit* off of the .610 requested...by about .200... |
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Well JET if i were to ever race my Eclipse Forumla style, i want you on my pit crew just in case we gotta change a tranny quick. :)
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Twin disk = more friction surfaces. Sort of like an automatic tranny. The more
friction / steel plates you have, the better the grab is because of the multiplied friction surface. |
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Yep, similar to a top fueler setup. They must have around 4 or 5 disks in theirs though.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Top fuel uses up to 6, that is a slipper clutch though, not to useful on the street. The twin disk is a good set up for people trying to make over 600whp.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Almost all motorcycles use a 6 plate setup.
Well, it took me 45 min and the tranny is ready to come out. Gonna grab some grub and go yank it out! |
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Good luck.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Well, I have some more news....
IT RUNS!!! YAY!! Now I just have to put the axles back in, T-case on, fill the tranny and T-case fluid, and pop the wheels on! Unfortunately I won't be able to do it tomorrow as I have class, but I should get to drive it on Thurs! I am pumped!! |
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Congrats!:)
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Awesome! I can't remember the last time I saw that car on the street.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Crap, now I won't get any sleep this weekend. But I kinda miss the long nights of street tuning.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Three running 11-second DSM's locally, who would've thunk it? The race for the 10's is on. ;)
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Don't forget Chris Carey too, if he can make it. Also Shane is trying to get Mara's car together. There could be 5 down there going for it!
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Go in order. Go for 11s, then go for the 10's.. lol Dont get ahead of yourselves!!! You might get let down, its better to meet a goal than it is to expect something and come up short. Just my .02.
Congrats jet. I better come up there with the maf :) |

10s??? The race for mid 9s is on now.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Is anyone on here even close to shanes 700whp?
I suppose everyone has run 11's on their car at some point. I was more or less talking about this year to be exact. Most people with fast rides havent gotten the chance to throw out some times that they are happy with. Hell Shanes 10.4 is fast as shit but I bet he still wasnt happy knowing that he might of gotten lower 10's or high 9s had 4 gear not sheared :) |

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
congrats man. I'm getting annoyed because my car seems so close, yet so far still from being done. I'm jealous of ya! Enjoy it this weekend man!!
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Well, I got it fully warmed up last night. No oil or coolant leaks! I was having issues with the idle though. Shane is hooking me up with a new map and the car is going on the dyno Wed. I have a wideband, so pump should be set up pretty good. We will probably make a few pump gas pulls then go to C16.
There isn't a hood or bumper cover on it. The wheels need to go back on, then it is ready to take for a spin! The roomies car is in the way though, so we have to push that out of the way first. She should be on the road tonight!! |

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Understood, makes sense now, and will save a lot of time. I'm still torn between AEM and DSMlink myself, but that's a whole other topic. Hope to see your car around sometime before snow falls.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Well, even Nash's is a totally untuned guess at a basemap. But it's hopefully something with the basics setup for his specific map sensor, injector size, and motor size that the car will start on and then he can start getting it close enough with his wideband.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Well, the startup is decent on it, starts in 4-5 cranks. Idle is pretty solid at 1100 RPM (big cams). I need to get my hood and front bumper cover on to drive it more!
The thing is a bit of a handful though. That twin disk bites pretty hard! Add that with almost no torque from the ported head, big cams and oversized valves, and it doesn't like slow speeds at all. I also have a welded viscous in right now and that isn't helping things either. Time to get some breakin miles on it and start to do some tuning! |
