Yeah a guy was in a convenience store the other day saying a similar phrase. "Yeah gas is still cheaper than a gallon of milk." I was like sorry dude, i don't drink 10 gallons of milk a day!

So if we all drive Geo's in the future, will we have a site called GEOStyle ? LOL

Currently trying to find out what hardware/device is need to test the octane level of fuel is. Anyone know? I know dam well what i'm buying of 93 ISN'T 93!!! If i could prove it, i'd sue their ass! I think someone i know has tested fuel before because he's a tech for a snowmobile race circuit. I'll have to get in touch with him.

BTW- You're paying too much for your bottled water. Ours is .99 cents. :-)

I just emailed this to BP now. I'm dead serious about the matter. I put 87 in the car Friday because it doesn't act any different than the supposed labeled 93.


Hello. I am very frustrated over the quality of fuel i'm getting at the BP store in Abbotsford, WI 54405. It is a must that i purchase 93 octane for my turbocharged car. I strongly feel that the 93 oct. that i'm pumping into my car isn't truly 93. I bought a datalogger to attach to my cars dataport and i'm showing very high levels of knock. This amount of knock should not be present if it were truely 93 octane. The 93 is acting like 87 or 89oct. I have never had any problems with BP fuels up until this year with all the energy problems going on. If it isn't truly 93 then it shouldn't be marketed as 93. I would like someone to physically test it. If someone does not, I will have it analyzed by someone that is qualified. If it is not truly 93, I will have it turned over to the state commision. I'm paying about .14 cents more for fuel that i feel i'm not getting.

I've put the E85 in my car (from IA) and I actually didn't notice a difference, car ran great, and seemed to get even better gas mileage.

I shouldn't bitch about the prices either, it was my choice to move out here to BFE, but it still sucks. At least my car gets nearly 40 mpg :D

Well whats sweet, is when we are all driving 50mpg commuter cars, the oil suppliers will just slash production so they can maintain the $60/barrel price.
"They" don't care how much they sell, just how much they get for it.
I highly doubt it will get to a point to where there is a 'stockpile' unless the US steps in and throws some of its oil on the market. We'll all just have to suck it up and get use to it.

That isn't true. They are trying to maximize profits. Stats class is your friend :D They want to keep production at a point where they will get a high profit/barrel yet still sell a large quantity. This will yield a large profit. The thing is that they can't get too greedy or it will be more enticing to move to alternative energy sources. They are walking a fine line and OPEC has said that they want to keep oil prices below $60. They must feel that is the breaking point where people will get pissed.

Alternative energy is coming and them bumping up the prices is going to force the issue. Once other energy sources come into the main stream, they are going to watch their countries go down the crapper!

Yep, everytime we talk about about alternative fuels, the price begins to drop some. I really think this whole thing right now is a test. A test to see where it starts to really affect economy. The suits tell us our demand is 86 million barrels a day where only 84 mill is being produced. You just can't listen to them. Alot of this has to be fabricated stories to line their pockets. They come up with these stories that they can't drill anymore but that's b.s. When is the last time they built a new oil rig or tried to drill elsewhere. If they start pumping excessive amount of oil out of the ground they will have to reduce the price because they have a surplus of it. That's definately what the big oil cartel does NOT want. It's not really about keeping up with demand. It's about setting a quota of 84 million/day, sticking to that quota and rationing it off with high gas prices. They don't want to put the effort into drilling more when they can remain rich at the current output. Don't think for a minute that they are reinvesting those billions of dollars back into the industry with alternative methods and sources. They are only a handful of alternatives we have: Nuclear, Coal, Hydrogen, Solar and probably a couple more and how much have those technologies moved forth. It will probably be a decade at least before we see hydrogen gas stations around here.

They also found a decent sized oil bed in Utah 2 months ago. They estimate it at 1 billion barrels. Nothing huge, but it could help out. There is also a bunch in Alaska that they better start going after. It takes quite a while to get an oil rig up and running though.

Ethanol is accually a better fuel in the sense it runs cooler, theres more oxygen in the fuel so more power out of it as well. The only thing I don't like about it is that it does reduce your gas milage so in a way you dont save really any money in using it. I've been debating if I want to try using the E85 and tuning it with that but I don't want to mess up any seals or what not.

Ethanol, Alky, etc... yes, runs way cooler You gotta burn much more of it though. My friend uses 100% alky in his drag car. It's about a 2:1. Twice as much as like a regular race gas. It's cheaper than race gas per gallon but you half to multp. by 2 because of the burn factor. It dries everything out too. You have to mix a little oil with it.

This is all 100% alky i'm talking about. I don't know anything about the blends and the E85's yet to speculate on.

Think about what you just said. If it takes more to go the same distance, how are you getting more power out of it?? Ethanol actually has less energy output that gasoline does, so you are correct in seeing a mileage decrease, but there is also a power decrease if the car is tuned properly. If the car is running rich anyway, then there won't be as much of a decrease.

I'm not sure what the difference between Holiday and BP fuel is, other than Holiday advertises thiers as "Blue Planet", which I assume means that it has more ethanol in it or something. But anyway, I have used Holiday in the past, and I currently use BP. The only reason I used Holiday is because there is a gas station just down the street from me, and it was convenient. But when I noticed that my truck started knocking really bad, I replaced the fuel filter, thinking that it was old and clogged, and the motor wasn't getting enough fuel. But when it was still knocking I started using BP more often and noticed that it didn't knock. So, ever since I started using only BP, and nothing else, I haven't had a single problem.

You can take that for whatever it's worth, but that has been my experience, so that's why I use BP.

As far as the gas prices go, I'll just say this. There's little to nothing I can do to change what I get charged for gas. I could waste my energy worrying about gas prices, and bitching about how they should be lower. But I would rather use my energy torwards things that I have more control over. If gas prices jumped up by $5.00 I might think a little differently, but $0.50 over a 6 month time frame isn't worth my time and effort.
