Just got off the phone with them, doesn't sound like there going to fight it. They tried to tell me it was pretty heavy etc to scare me off, must not have realized there was a picture of it sitting beside an average monitor. They are going to figure out what day will work best since it is in a different location and call me back. So it looks like the long ride to MI will happen. Gotta love it. Now I should know if you crank is round to within like .0000000000000000" or so haha. It is all part of the master plan ;)

Kinda pointless if you ask me, because if you find that its not round, then you just say.... umm its not round.... but i cant do anything about it, so i just wanted to tell you that its not round and your gonna have to deal with it. LOL Cheap purchase but pretty pointless if you ask me, at least until you get a tool to actually do something about it.

Damn tom, your absolutely right, I will go throw all my micrometers, dial indicators and bore gauges away, and especially that worthless suface plate. Imagine, the pointless purchase that was. Check something, find out its out of tollerance and stand there wondering what to do about it. Geez, what was I thinking? hahahaha. Why do you assume there is nothing that can be done about it? Just because you don't know what to do? Your one of "those" people arn't you? Stand around saying "it" (whatever it may be) won't work to make yourself look intelligent instead of using what little brain you have to help figure out a solution. Don't feel bad, your not alone, I see others like you all the time.
Stick with Microsoft, it fits you well. If there isn't a pre canned solution to you problem available for download, you can just blame Microsoft and call it done. |

Im not saying that you couldnt do anything if it was off, What i was meaning is to create a total solution.
See a problem, Verify its off (as you now can), and do something about it. I didnt mean to insult your inteligence or make you look like you didnt know what you were doing mike, just asking you a question about what you would do if it was off. And i think i linked to a Small engine crank straightener. |

If you find it is off, you send it to the machine shop and have them fix it. Simple solution :P

NIce try, but the machine I am looking at checks primarily for roundness (although it will show a bent crank as well), when polishing a crank it is easy to get the journals out of round, and you can effectively correct it if you have the knowledge. I wouldn't ever wast time using or straightening a bent crank. I will be doing crank polishing in house pretty quickly so I want an accurate method to verify the crank is as round as possible. I am not trying to replace the machine shop I use, they are top notch and have the best equipment available however, at 2 in the morning when I am assembling a motor and find a bearing clearance that is a couple ten thousanths tighter than I like, I won't have to wait till the machine shop opens and haul it over there etc, I can "adjust it" as needed and assemble it. It also makes it much easier of a decision, If you can do things in house, you are less likely to let a clearance fly due to time constraints because you know it will work even if it isn't the best scenario. With those capabilities, they can all be done based on what is the best setup rather than letting a customer talk me into assembling it "as is" so they can have their car a day sooner. It is amazing, but most try to do exactly that. Drives me freaking crazy.

Most recent update, they are going to give it up. They have no issues with it, it was from an oldsmobile plant that was dissasembled recently, They are getting a hold of the location it is stored in to arrange a time for me to grab it and also a method that will work to load it on the truck (poor mighty Max) but it looks as though they are fine with it. The other thing I found amusing it that someone else had won it recently, (they won it for $2000) and they backed out in the end for some stupid reason. Good for me I guess.
