Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
I was the first one down the track today, with a 12.5@109.9, best run of the day, as the track got worse as the day went on.
I did run a 12.9@104.6 on "low boost", with the wideband logging the full run at richer then 10.00! LOL. never botherd runnin on street boost before, so I was happy with 12s on street boost. That black 1st gen neon that was mentioned, has a stock SRT turbo and intercooler in it with a bad clutch, running i believe 6 lbs of boost or so. It was running decent times. 256 cars raced today, and less then a dozen in the 12s or lower. I wanted to race that nice expensive turbo porsche, muahaha, that would hurt some egos. |
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
Hahaha, that would've been funny. I think he already got beat by that black 240, that was kinda sad for the Porche. Which car were you driving ACRucrazy?

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
There were three white 2g's.
One had a carbon fiber hood and ran what I saw a best of 11.99 The other didn't do a whole lot Then Shane broke his shifter on the first run, then on the second run ran a 12 with nearly everyone in the lanes hooting and hollering about all the sounds and time. Yes that was me in the white Galant. |

Although watching 250 16 second cars could have been fun... |

MNSC thread on it, bit of a work warning some of the pics may not be suitable for those not wanting to see girl working on car and ass crack to match. on a side note just looking at some of the cars I don't ever think I will go to the Rock this year again. HOw many runs did you guys that went get? |
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
I got 3 runs. Im not going to a sportcompact day again. I'll go to fun days though.

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
I didn't have a good day. The track was packed and with even slower cars than normal. They actually announced over the speakers that the cars slower than 16 seconds would have to wait for some lanes to clear our during eliminations, because the 16 second class was so mich bigger than usual that there wasn't any lanes left. On my first attempted pass, my some welds on my crappy Tiawan short shifter broke and the shifter just fell over before I got out of 1st gear. Swapped in a stock shift from Jim's car. Second pass, was crappy track and bad driving. 2.2 60', short shifting and not getting into 4th gear, ended up running a 12.0. 3rd pass in eliminations, I had problems getting off the line and eventually end up blowing the motor up by shifting from 3rd into 2nd, in my usual brilliant style. If the car ever runs again, I think I will have Cher adjust my shift cables and not try to shift into 4th very quickly, especially with a different shifter in the car. The tranny liked to go into 1st and 2nd easy, but 3rd and 4th were hard to get to. I probably almost went into 2nd gear instead of 4th on the 2nd pass also, and hit the "gate" between 2nd and 4th. I don't know how many things are broke yet besides the motor. Maybe clutch and tranny also. I am done for a while though.

i was there, but didnt run. My car isnt worth running so I didnt. I could see that many other people didnt share my views on racing slow cars. I was by shane kinda in my blue 1g ;)

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
Sorry to hear about that Shane. Hope the damage is less that it sounds.
Did Jim ever get a pass in on his 2G? I don't see any mention of it. |
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
Damn, sorry to hear that Shane! I was looking forward to seeing that thing run some decent times.
|
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
Shane, again sorry to see the motor go. I hope there isn't a lot of $$$$ involved on getting the car back up and running even though it more than likely will. Anything I can do, let me know.
RF is a major suck on SC day. Cars keep getting slower and there is a lot more of them. I didn't race yesterday, but from what I saw it took forever for some of the lanes to go through. A lot of people waited for ever to get another chance to run. The WHITE 2g with the carbon fibber hood ran an 11.99 at 115 on pump IIRC. Jim |
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
In that case I am glad I didn't go. I hate watching honduh's do anything much less attempt speed. Watching fast DSMs grenade is hard to do as well for other reasons and with Jim not running and Carl not getting more than one worthwhile pass in, I am happy I stuck around here to get more work done. I will save my track visits for everything but sport compact meets, they sound like they are just getting worse.

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
The collection of 16 second cars that show up is the prime reason i don't even bother going on import day. I'd rather watch paint dry. You guys should come down on the domestic car race days.

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
Shane, out of curiosity, how many miles does your odometer read?
|
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
The ticket was to have been there on sat for test and tune. We showed up 2 hours late and still made 15 passes. We had the white 2G w/ the CF hood out there. 1st weekend out starting on low boost and pump gas Troy managed a 11.81@116 in a full weight 2G w/ PS and AC still intact.

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
Sorry to hear the bad news!
Wow Shane that is a major setback. I really wouldnt have much motivation to get it back up after how many times its died. Having been the first SC day I knew this would have been the biggest... Usually if it rains and gets set for a rain date that is the best time to go becuase no one shows up. |
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
Damn Shane that sucks. I remember when Mark made the downshift as well in IA a few years back while on the track. It happens, but hopefully you will be back sooner than expected.

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
Yeah, waiting for all the slow-ass cars there was really boring. That's the biggest attendance I've ever seen there, I had a hard time finding a spot in the spectator lot for my hooptie. It's hard to get any driving practice out there when you can only make a pass every 2-3 hours.
|
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
That really sucks, Shane!
|
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
I am surprised it died. I have done 3-2's a few times and am still going fine. I suppose you were over 7K when you did it though? I read a read a tip that helped me not do it anymore. So I will pass it along. Don't grip the shifter, just move it with an open hand. 1st to 2nd, and 3rd to 4th use the tips of your fingers. 2nd-3rd and 4th-5th push with you palm.
Hope it's just some bent valves. And use the N2O next time! |
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
That why I didn't go to that event. In my opinion its amost worth it to just go on the test and tune day and get a bunch of runs in without all the 15 plus cars wasting everyones time. Whats an extra 30 bucks for up to ten times as many runs?

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
I still dont know how people will want to take their cars and run 16's. Is their brain not in the right spot? I has a few mins of sleep as I waited for the 13.5 and quicker class run. I probably wont go to another SC day again. I like the Fun Days better anyways...lots of quick cars with lots of power....fun fun.

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
Yea Ive never done the downshift when your supposed to upshift, maybe that is becuase of your tip ryan- I dont grip the shifter I just tap it in with my palm and pull it back with my fingers. Never thought about that.
Hope its just the valvetrain, and maybe the bottom end is ok... yea when you rip it up get some pics :) |
Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
I did the downshift twice when I bought my car. Hit the end of the tach at 9000 without any damage. My car was stock though... I am only down one motor and I am contemplating not putting it back together. Not do to shifting or tuning though.

Re: RF Sport Compact Day, Sunday April 10th
The White 2g that fried the tranny was me.
First run of 15.7@104 was when it went all down hill. Brought it into the pits and made some adjustments and went for a run down the road, everything shifted fine then lined back up in the staging lanes. Ran 16.3@99 couldnt get into 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear in high rpms for some reason. Checked the clutch fuild seemed a bit low. Filled it up and bled the clutch, went back to the staging lanes again. 16.2@90 is all I could get. Still couldnt shift for shit. Brought it in, checked the tranny fuild, barely any. Like maybe 1/4 of a pint. How it got that low I have no clue. Pulled the tranny in the pits found the clutch fucked up, thats when I went to shane asking if he had a clutch disk with him. HAHA (Dont know if ya remember that Shane.) Found one at a local town but decided to look into the tranny a little more just incase cause on the last run when I got to the pits I couldnt move at all. Well I ended up separating the clutch disk from the sprung center spline section. Broke my LSD in 3 pieces, 1st thru 4th synchros are toast also. So off to Winona I went where I grabbed a trailer and truck and came back and picked it up. Tranny is rebuilt and a new clutch is in. All ready for April 23rd's fun day at RF. Maybe I wont break it this time. I'm going to tow it there this time though and expect to break it! |
