Re: UBER SS
Got a few more odds and ends done recently.
Took out the 4:88 and swapped in some 4:10 gears on the posi unit. http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0_...o/IMG_9465.JPG Noticed something in the axle tube I have never seen before. Both axle tubes have a pressed in steel insert that starts right after the c-clip eliminator and goes into the center section just short of the carrier bearings. I guess they were installed to strengthen the axle tubes? You can see the machined/cut end of the insert inside of the axle tube in this picture. http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yQ...o/IMG_9468.JPG I also installed some QA1 Endura Chromoly series rod ends on the 4-link to get those bushed units out of there. I just didn't trust those "street rod" type bushed rod ends to hold the power. The QA1's have a Nylon/PTFE injected ball race to keep them quiet under normal driving. Very nice part if you ever need anything like that. http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/100/122/122-XMR3.jpg http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Nt...o/IMG_9514.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rY...o/IMG_9515.JPG And finally got those Thrush Turbo mufflers out and installed some Borla ProXS mufflers under it. These are offset straight thru design and they sound great, very deep and more defined than the old muflers. I'll try to get a video uploaded soon. At less than $100 each for a stainless steel performance muffler I highly recommend them. http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-m6...o/IMG_9516.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eH...o/IMG_9517.JPG |
Re: UBER SS
Borlas have been highly recommended as of late.
Nice work! |
Re: UBER SS
Well UBER coughed up a hairball, Lol.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Xx...Q=w572-h761-no I wasn't ready to jump in and redo the front suspension yet (was about to a order customer drive shaft). but I had an upper control arm bushing come out while at Cruising' the Coast. But since it had to come apart, why spend $$$ on repairing the old when the change over was going to happen anyway? So after a month long back order wait, I finally got Global West's Drag Series upper/lower control arms (TLC-42 & TLC-42H). I also installed AFCO's A-body double adjustable coil over conversion kit (3840F/BNC shocks & GM450 springs). A note about the lower control arms is that there is no sway bar provision. Not a problem for me as UBER and high speed cornering didn't mingle well anyway, I always cornered at low speeds. So off came the sway bar as well. Every thing came together and worked well with the drop spindles I already had on it. The upper arms added more caster to the alignment for better straight line stability and reduced bump steer. Also, in doing this I took 28 pounds off the front end. Not a huge amount, but I'll take what I can get. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/s-...g=w572-h761-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/W_...A=w572-h761-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/cr...w=w572-h761-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/bp...=w1016-h761-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/aO...=w1016-h761-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/uQ...=w1016-h761-no |
Re: UBER SS
Just realized I forgot to post sound clips of the new exhaust. So for any interested, here ya go:
Borla ProXS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUeDImVI99U&hd=1 Bolra ProXS dumped http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05Tme9F0PhU&hd=1 |
Re: UBER SS
Getting rid of that front sway bar will help immensely with weight transfer as well. This thing is a beast, now put some 88's on it!
|
Re: UBER SS
Yep, sway bar is gone bye-bye. That alone was 13 pounds off the front end.
BTW, what's 88's? LoL |
Re: UBER SS
Nice round of upgrades!
I'd guess he meant 88mm turbos. Just a guess tho lol |

Re: UBER SS
Got some track time in yesterday.
First time out with new engine, new front suspension and out the box Pro-Systems 980cfm carb. I was pleasantly surprised. The suspension worked great, dead solid traction on all passes. Picked up on a few issues while tweaking it at the track, something weird is going on with my ignition system, seems like it's breaking down at times. Also figured out the carb isn't big enough, kept nosing over at 6700rpm. 3860lbs with me onboard pulled some 1.45-1.49 60ft launches. Best pass was 10.50 @ 127.69mph. All motor, no nitrous. There is definitely more to be had power wise. Here's a good vid one of my friends shot for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41sr2Yj5pyI&hd=1 |
Re: UBER SS
Wow, that thing hooks great for such a light rear end.

Re: UBER SS
That thing should run some low 10s on motor. Should be interesting when give her some laughing gas. Could go pretty fast depending on how crazy you want to go with it.

Re: UBER SS
A few more goodies going in.
Coan Max Perf 9-inch converter COA-20440-1 4800 flash stall with less than 6% slip on high end. CSR832 Trans/Bellhousing shield. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/9H...0=w976-h732-no In looking at the numbers I figured out the engine is just blowing through the converter I have now. By doing the math (32 inch tire/4.10 gear/6700rpm/6% converter slip) I should be rolling through the traps closer to 145mph instead of 127-128mph. I was hitting 6700rpm a couple of hundred feet before the traps, so basically the engine was topped out and the car was still picking up speed. Not a good scenario. Also explains why the e.t. and mph are not as strong as they should have been. I decided to go with the CSR shield because it snug fits against the tranny housing to clear the floor board. Figured since I didn't have a tranny shield, now would be a good time to install one. Looking at different transmission cooler options now. |
Re: UBER SS
So now you should be in the 9s with thst trap speed. You spraying it down the track yet? Would cool to see what it does on motor vs spraying

Update: Got the trans finished up.
TH400 built w/extra clutches, red disc, kolene steels, CK Performance reverse manual valve body w/engine braking, CSR shield, new B&M transcooler and deep pan, Coan 9 inch Max Performance converter COA-20440-1, -6an lines and Milodon dipstick installed and doing fine. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Vr...k=w978-h733-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/xP...M=w978-h733-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/lg...w1703-h1277-no |
Re: UBER SS
It's been a while, I've been busy. But I did just finish installing a new fuel system.
I ran -12 out of the tank to the pump, -10 from the pump to the bypass regulator, -10 back to the tank, and -8 to the carb. Magnafuel Pro Star 500 to Aeromotive A2000 bypass regulator, then returned back to the tank. Video of return dump back to the tank. Engine off, but even if it was running it wouldn't make a dent in flow at idle. This was with 5.5psi at the carb. That's a 5/8 inch stream of fuel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EL-HEmSHS8&hd=1 Shouldn't have any issues at WOT either. :p Might be more than I need at this time, but I'll never have to worry about running out of fuel again. I bought it from a good friend that just had Magnafuel go through it prior to his moving to fuel injection on his twin turbo car. Got the pump and Aeromotive A2000 13202 regulator from him for $300, couldn't pass it up. Mounted it on the mid-rear frame cross rail (not the frame cross member directly behind the bumper). The bumper and rear cross frame member are giving some protection. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-A...0/IMG_3217.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--...0/IMG_3213.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-D...0/IMG_3207.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d...0/IMG_3206.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-R...0/IMG_3289.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s...0/IMG_3288.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y...0/IMG_3287.JPG The other frame mounted filter is for the nitrous fuel pump/system. That red wire has been secured to the frame properly :p, pics were taken during the install. |
Re: UBER SS
Is it worth having some sort of controller so the pump doesn't run wide open all the time?
|
Re: UBER SS
The pump is only pumping against 7psi, rated for close to 40psi. voltage controllers are not recommended because as voltage goes down, amperage goes up and that's what destroys pump motors. Basically the carb gets what it needs, the rest gets dumped back. Another benefit is the pump runs cooler because of the flow helping cool it.

Yep, saw that. It get's around like a $2 prostitute.

Re: UBER SS
It's been a while since I've posted here about it, things have been going good with it.
And then this happens,... http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_5...o/IMG_4262.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xx...o/IMG_4263.JPG Lost oil pressure, had to find out why. No metal on magnetic drain plug, no metal in oil filter. Engine was not knocking before taking it out. Hoping it's something simple in the oil pump/pan. Nothing looks torn up, had 4psi at idle, 20psi above idle so it never starved for oil. Found oil pressure relief piston stuck open, touched it with a small screw driver and it popped closed. http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fE...o/IMG_4269.JPG Needless to say, that Melling pump isn't going back in. |
Re: UBER SS
I've been meaning to say, I thought I saw a link to your car pop-up on Facebook posted by Murder Nova.

Re: UBER SS
Ouch! Glad you caught it in time, hopefully no issues getting it back in.

Re: UBER SS
I decided to install the correct oil pan for the engine this time around, instead of the correct oil pan for the chassis.
So,..... http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Dn...o/IMG_4379.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hp...o/IMG_4388.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-he...o/IMG_4389.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2a...o/IMG_4387.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8f...o/IMG_4385.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nl...o/IMG_4381.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cs...24-no/IMG_4382 http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Rd...o/IMG_4371.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QV...o/IMG_4384.JPG To be continued,..... |

Re: UBER SS
That thing looks bad ass from the rear with those wide tires. Nice frame work too. I've got a 66 chevy caprice that had a frame crack in the belly that made my bb sage down, I should have fixed it like you did!
|
Re: UBER SS
Thanks. Got any pics of the Caprice?

Re: UBER SS
Here are a couple, I finished a full restoration about 8 years ago. It looks better in and out then when it rolled off the assembly line. It's a cruiser on air bags, it has the original 396 block with a mild roller hydraulic cam with 10.5:1 compression pistons and edelbrock polished rpm heads/intake.
