Re: JET's 335Xi
Chris get an N55 or N54? I'll have to check on FB tonight. Hopefully an N55 as basically everything BMW can have one in it! They just cracked the boost control on the electric wastegate newer ones and have over 400whp with minimal mods on stock turbo (this was a 435i).
I was hoping to get mods on last weekend, but I got that stomach bug that went around. Hoping for this weekend to at least get the tune on it. |
Re: JET's 335Xi
N54 looks like!

Re: JET's 335Xi
Can't tell from the outside, but it isn't an early N54. It is 2009-2011. Only the 2011 was N55, but everything since 2011 is basically all N55 for every BMW from the 1 series all the way to the 7 series, including the SUV's. The N55 is also more reliable and more efficient.

Re: JET's 335Xi
Alpina TCU flash completed, no more lazy shifts in Drive, and its nice to see what gear its in Drive mode. Thanks JET for suggesting the update.
Couple things I have left to figure out, summer tires and getting the transmission fluid changed to redline d4 along with a new filter. |
Re: JET's 335Xi
No problem. You mean better shifts in S mode? D on the alpina bugs a lot of people as it is in 6th gear by 40. How do you like D? I haven't done it yet because of that.
Ditch the run flats when you get summers. Loving my pilot supersports, but mine are RFT. Going to do same tire next time, but no RFT. |
Re: JET's 335Xi
I like the way D is working. The car has enough torque that the shift to 6th @ 40 doesn't bother me. It gets better mpg now that it isn't wearing the crap out of the clutches.

Re: JET's 335Xi
LOL.
So, I got my tune in today and took it for a spin. I was just on Map 1 which is 12.5psi vs stock at ~9psi. Holy shit! Felt like I added 2 more cylinders. I can't wait to get my flex fuel wires on and toss E40 at it. Then it can run 16psi. Very excited to go play with it some more! |
Re: JET's 335Xi
20psi on pump!
|
Re: JET's 335Xi
Pussies. I ran 27 daily in my X on pump.
|
Re: JET's 335Xi
10.2:1 stock compression ratio, so it is a bit different compared to evo/dsm. The stock turbo is too small too, so that limits it. I will get a bigger turbo in the next year or so, then I will be able to have more fun :)

Re: JET's 335Xi
This thread is full of win and making me want one for a DD
|
Re: JET's 335Xi
2jzge is 10:1 stock and i still plan to run 30psi :) thats on e85 of course.

Re: JET's 335Xi
Little Update on the Alpina Flash,
I am now getting a 2 mpg improvement in my Daily Drive. Yes 2 Mpg! The low rpm shifting program in Drive helps a ton. |

So you are saying I need to take some time and do this :P My only worry is that I am still under warranty and they would notice the display change I am sure. I don't really want to flash every time I have to go in to the dealership either. |
Re: JET's 335Xi
Can you get the flash they sell through the dealership like Rosey's car? Or maybe Dinan? Or Cobb since it takes only a few minutes to flash back to stock with the handheld?
|
Re: JET's 335Xi
The dealership flash is junk, adds 20hp for over $1k. Dinan is the same. Cobb leaves traces in the ECU that BMW can find even if you unflash it, is way more expensive than the JB4 and doesn't produce quite as much power even with a protune, stock maps are way down on power. JB4 has guage hijacking too which is cool (I can put boost, timing, AIT's, EGT's or whatever on the fuel and oil temp gauges). JB4 can also make all changes on the fly, including map changes, through the steering wheel buttons.
I checked out all the options before I decided on JB4 and I am really happy with it. After doing it once my install and uninstall time will probably be about 20 minutes so it isn't a huge deal. If you were talking about the tranny flash, that is not available anywhere except to do it yourself. Normally it shows DS on the dash for sport mode but this puts the software from the Alpina B3 on it and is shows what gear you are in, S1, S2, etc. They would definitely notice that. I guess it just adds another 10 minutes in to my install and uninstall routine when I have to go to the dealer, which isn't often. Oil change is about every 10k miles. I might talk myself in to this yet :P |
Re: JET's 335Xi
Dat MPG dough!
|
Re: JET's 335Xi
If BMW is anything like the Golden Valley Audi was, they didnt care that I modded software, shocks, springs, swaybars, exhaust and intake on my old A4 that was under warranty. They even replaced a leaky transmission free of charge.
You are too used to Mitsu warrantys. :) Just something to think about. |

Re: JET's 335Xi
I am pretty sure there is a box you can check that disables the countdown on the tranny, is there not? Been a few months since I looked at it much so I am a little fuzzy.
Peter - unfortunately they seem to be pretty picky about mods. I guess they will mark in the system that you have mods but not say anything to your face, then when something goes wrong you are SOL. I am not very happy with BMW as a company, but they make a hell of a car. |
Re: JET's 335Xi
Ahh that blows. What is the count down on the tranny for?
|
Re: JET's 335Xi
What happens when the count down reaches zero?

Re: JET's 335Xi
I almost wish my car didn't have the extended warranty, it would save me trouble. But if I have it, then I better try not to lose it. I'll check in to flashing the tranny next week, boss is gone so plenty of research time at work :)

Re: JET's 335Xi
You could always get a pro-rated refund on it

Do these motors have issues with the oil pump like the M54 motor?

Re: JET's 335Xi
For reference my MPG went from 23 combined to 25 combined daily driving after the flash. Running the 494 strip in stop and go traffic is what kills mileage on the 80 mile commute.
