I'll probably check out the korean stuff and dodge dart, maybe fords too...depends on how many cars you have to check out. |
Re: Need New DD...~15k
I love my wife's Jetta GLI. I dd'd it a lot when the evo was borked. intake, chip, and ebay downpipe and it is fun as hell.
It's only FWD but with a set of general altimax arctics on it it is a freaking beast in the snow. It has the DSG option so sitting in epic winter traffic is a piece of cake. A4 would be another option and get you AWD, you could also go avant and go wagon style for hauling evo parts. $15k will probably get you a ~2005 B6 maybe a B7 with 60k+ miles. |

^Eh, none are blowing up my skirt. The silver sedan one is alright.
Not sure how hard it is to get them to your lot but I'd test drive it at a minimum. |

If you go with a GTI, get the DSG "auto" (aka clutchless manual) versus the standard manual, perfect daily driver!
|
Re: Need New DD...~15k
Browsing craigslist and came across this... Silver even, like you said you might be interested before.
http://lacrosse.craigslist.org/cto/3280936865.html I think it looks nice and right around that price range. Its a 2012 and only has 3400 miles on it! Sweet car! |
Re: Need New DD...~15k
Whatever you do, do not get a Mazda 3, my buddy just got one last year and its the worst piece of shit in the snow I have ever seen.
I like the Audi's and Volvo's as well, but a little cheaper option would be a Subaru Impressa or similar, good AWD system, good gas mileage, and still fairly fun to drive. Shit even a used WRX would be decent. |

You need to narrow down the features you want the car to have. Is AWD something you need, econo, a bit luxury, how high of miles. Go drive all suggested and cross some off your list. Thats just how you have to do it. |
Re: Need New DD...~15k
Honda Ridgeline.
|
Re: Need New DD...~15k
You might also want to check out the Suzuki SX4. They're the most affordable AWD vehicle on the American car market. I have them practically new for close to that price. Or can get you a brand new manual for a hair over 16.

Re: Need New DD...~15k
I'll report back after this weekend of test driving.
Right now there are too many things I am not sure on. AWD is a plus to me, but a big plus. More important are ~30mpg+ freeway and lower miles. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on something with a lot of miles. I'd pay a bit more for less miles. Luxury isn't really important, blue tooth would be awesome, but leather and big seats and huge back seat etc isn't. I rarely have people in the back seat so I don't care about that. |

Once I get up into 24-26k range I'd almost for sure get a brand new car of some kind, plenty of ones I like in that range. I'd still prefer to stay lower, 15-17k range, but I'd splurge a little if it meant a better car. I just need to drive some and if I really like one then focus on finding the "right one". At this point I have plenty of kinds of cars to look at, need to get the list down to like 2-3 that I really want and find a good one in my price range. |
Re: Need New DD...~15k
Used, I'd say the Golf Diesel as well. New, the Kia or Hyundai, both are awesome cars for the money. I wouldn't buy one used though since they are only a grand or two less, same goes for Hondas and Toyotas and you're 10 year warranty gets chopped drastically being the second owner.

The only thing I don't like aobut them is the maintenance costs, but then again my friend has had it for 1, maybe 2 years and its over 30k miles.

Re: Need New DD...~15k
My buddy's sister got a new Ford Fiesta, I think, and loves it. Says she gets like 30-35+ mpg and was only around 15-16k brand new.
|
Re: Need New DD...~15k
As a general rule of thumb, don't buy the first generation of of anything. This is generally true with cars too.
|
Re: Need New DD...~15k
super cheap for a nice awd dd
http://mnsubaru.com/threads/fs-ft-09...-12-500.40333/ super low miles for a bug eye wrx. http://mnsubaru.com/threads/fs-2002-...-11-900.40507/ I would say legacy gt but you wont get good gas millage in onw. |
Re: Need New DD...~15k
Oooo, both of those are tempting, not sure on getting a loan on a car that is 10 years old though...
But the hatch, I like. I am for sure going to stop at a subbie dealer, I think the AWD goodness might win me over for shitty winters. |
Re: Need New DD...~15k
loan on a ten yr old car would be hard but its sooo worth it for a nice bugeye to bad its not a wagon. The new hatches are nice, you can fold down the rear seats and haul/store lots of dead bodies and hookers. oh and stop at morries mntka.

Re: Need New DD...~15k

If I got the bugeye it would be like 6 months before I was buying an STI motor and tranny.... I am for sure checking out the hatches, I like them a lot. Simple and AWD...just sucks they aren't "great" on MPG. But hey I can't win them all, plus 13k price region is a solid deal and lower payments. I have the evo to mod still. |
Re: Need New DD...~15k
Yeah the mpg is not the greatest, but you will enjoy the simpleness if it. heck you can get a new one starting at 17k. otherwise a base legacy is nice too.

Re: Need New DD...~15k
Go buy a Camry or Accord for 5k and use the other 10k for something completely unrelated to a car.

I need something where everything works and is reliable. I would rather fix my accord up for like 500 bucks then buy another one. |
Re: Need New DD...~15k
Details about said accord?
|
Re: Need New DD...~15k

What kind of details, lol. It's prolly a $1000 car tops, but it has never ever let me down. No A/C, heat works but not awesome. Some rust, plenty of scratches and dings etc, bad front wheel hub, needs exhaust work bad. no idea on miles...speedo/odometer doesn't work. I'd say 200k+ Thing is a rock though, never fails to start and get me places. |
Re: Need New DD...~15k
oh, yeah maybe just get a newer version if you like yours for the most part?

Those new Legacys are so butt ugly. At least get the previous gen. Im surprised those Imprezzas are that cheap with that low of mileage.

Re: Need New DD...~15k
Caliber SRT-4, there is a Black caliber SRT-4 for 13,3K at luther brookdale dodge. Very nice cars, they are quick and they also have some function. If you have kids or plan on it, they actually work great for a kid hauler. Call up realtune and get a MS1K ECU and with some simple bolt ons you can reach 340hp 380tq. Also a very nice 6spd or you have the Neon SRT-4, pretty much unlimited crap that can be done.
