Re: My other little project
Lol thanks, no not done yet. That's just an imaginary conversation... I'm sure it will happen at some time or another this summer though!
I was trimming the bumper for my FMIC and thought I might as well throw the hood, fenders, and headlights on (not bolted down or anything). |
Re: My other little project
The only cool stuff I got done this weekend was I washed the car and trimmed the front bumper. I HATE when you see a nice looking car with the FMIC but then you get up close and the bumper is all hacked to shit. Not my style. It turns out that the material the bumper is made out of is so soft you can cut it with a razor blade... so that's just what I did. I probably have 2-3 hours into trimming it.
It's trimmed to contour with the shape of the IC tubing. You can see on the passenger side the finish of the tubing with the wrinkle coat. I haven't had a chance to do the coldside yet. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1336962506 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1336962516 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1336962524 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1336962533 |
Re: My other little project
Very cleanly done, great job.

Re: My other little project
Thank you very much!
More work this week, this time I've been focusing mainly on the interior. It's pretty much ready to be put back together but I'm going to wait until the engine is in for good to put the dash in. Then it's just wiring the gauges and I'll be done. I never did get any real good pictures of the interior so I figured I post some up. These are the front and rear Granny's torque arm mounts: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/IMG_7137.jpg The rear mount requires trimming the carpet a little and also the center console: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/IMG_7144.jpg Here's the center console resting in place: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/IMG_7147.jpg I put the rear back together as well (yes that's original 22 year old carpet/panels): http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/IMG_7140.jpg One problem I noticed (after bolting the roll bar in, of course) is that I can't open up the rear bins all of the way anymore. This isn't really a problem on the driver's side since I can still fit shit in there, but charging the battery would be a bitch. So, I removed the hinges and put velcro in place. It looks good and is super functional - and you can't even tell there's velcro there at all. I tried magnets for a super clean look but couldn't get anything to hold in place. Maybe sometime later if it ends up bugging me that much! http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/IMG_7141.jpg AGM battery solidly mounted with 3/8" diameter bolts through the floor: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/IMG_7143.jpg |
Re: My other little project
Nice, I saw a stock vert one like yours today, not as clean and man it makes me want one.
|
Re: My other little project
Looks like a really fun setup.
I bet it's not all that loud. A friend of mine had an f-body with a single and just a downpipe, I was amazed how quiet it actually was. The DP was aluminum too. The WG dump made out of aluminum didn't work so well though, that melted and he made a stainless one. |
Re: My other little project
I love this car. I honestly thought an LS FD would be the best streetcar ever, but for some reason i love 80s sportscar styling haha. I think its the boxiness that does it.
Anyway, i might have to do something similar in the future! Keep up the good work. |
Re: My other little project
Love how clean everything is! Great work.

Updates...
Finished cleaning up all of the turbo stuff: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...IMG_7186-1.jpg Installed Kurt Urban LS water vapor system (helps keep cylinder 7 cool): http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/IMG_7200.jpg Moved the rad support about 6" forward. Now that's done, I can paint the bay this week: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/IMG_7210.jpg Installed trim ring: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/IMG_7216.jpg |
Re: My other little project
Moar.
Shroud and fan mounted up for the last time: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1338760004 Trans cooler mounted to the radiator. I'm green to automatics so I don't know if this will cool enough or not. I'll just need to wait and see. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1338760042 Overview: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1338759987 |
Re: My other little project
Very nice work, that new rad. support looks beefy!
Like the fan and shroud, wish I could fit a beast like that in my car. That cooler should do just fine on the hwy, your issue will be at the track if anything. You might want to remote mount it so you can have a fan. But maybe your cooling fan will be enough too. |
Re: My other little project
Looove it. So much.

Re: My other little project
Oh my goodness. Amazing! I'm in love as well.

Re: My other little project
True love is the answer! This thing is one of my favorite project threads! Love it when I see someone so motivated and also be a perfectionist. They both coincide so well together and its kind of rare. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next updates.

Re: My other little project
It is looking really great! Love the new engine bay paint.

Re: My other little project
That is so fucking badass, post up elsewhere about that hooker of a DSM but someone was just asking about a 2G for that kinda price

Re: My other little project
Wow, looking really good!!

Re: My other little project
I spent some time yesterday and washed the car as it was pretty dusty (this is a requirement in a busy body shop). I rolled it outside for the first time in 9 months:
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1341493850 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1341493868 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1341493949 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1341493998 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1341494038 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1341494046 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1341494071 I realized when taking the pictures that the radiator is crooked :o It's only off about .5" but it's going to drive me up the wall. I don't know how I can resolve that though since everything is already painted. I may just leave it be, we'll see. I also ordered plugs and wires. MSD 8.5mm wires and BR7EF plugs. |
Re: My other little project
Yes, the car looks absolutely aweful because all I see is crooked radiator...
|
Re: My other little project
Turbo LS1 with crooked radiator. ew.
Gorgeous car. |
Re: My other little project
badass. if i see this car, im going to shoot it...with my camera ;) very very nice and clean. just love the 'bare engine' look it has :)

Re: My other little project
No sleeper effect going on there! That thing must be loud as hell. Any type of muffler or just straight pipe?
|
Re: My other little project
Quote:
It's actually not loud at all. Most of the sound you hear is the reflection off of the walls of the shop. I'll push it out of the shop and take a video this weekend to see how it actually is. |
Re: My other little project
I want to do this with the miata when I get enough time and am out of school.

Re: My other little project
So how does the exhaust work, straight out the side and thats it? I see a wastegate hidden down below but its before the turbo? Thats going to be crazy crazy loud when you get on it.

It will indeed be crazy loud. Oh well... that's the point :) |

Re: My other little project
Yea I suppose they can go either way, but I had a tial setup on my 1g that was after turbo on the o2 housing exiting under the car.

Re: My other little project
Off the O2 housing on a DSM is kind of actually "before" the turbo also. The wastegate has to bypass exhaust from hitting the turbine wheel or else the boost will go out of control.
