My pleasure, no secrets hear. I've been doing this for a long time and I'm still learning a ton on every project I take on. Forums help me a lot too, and I hate people with secrets.

You guessed it! The motor went back in the car Monday so I could fab the turbo manifold.
The manifold design turned out awesome! I’m super proud of it. The tolerances are very tight to feed the runners down to the collector to make sure there is room for a wastegate and 3-3.5” down pipe. Some

Looks great. Looks like you're going to have to weld in some toight spots :)

When I do manifolds I mock it up like this, fully weld the merge collected then take the runners off the head flange and collector, then fully weld each runner and then weld the runners to the head flange and collector.

I ended up welding as much as I could while it was mocked up, for the exception of the head flange and collector. Then I took out two of the runners to finish weld everything.

Thanks man. I have the week off and have been planning to squeeze as much car work in as possible. I'm running the 6266, saw a post on evom where a guy with a 2.0 running 93/meth made 720 Whp on a dynojet! Mine should do more than that.

Its all welded up! Next step is to weld up down pipe then I can add the wastegate to the manifold. The first pic shows more of the design.

The wastegate is a turbo smart comp 40mm.

My daily is a evo IX SE, FP red powered on E85 with all the standard bolt ons, including a trailer hitch!

Yesterday I finished the manifold, O2 dump, and down pipe.

I'm officially sick of working on the car now, way too many hours spent this week. I have all winter to finish it up.

You're definitely getting it done quickly. I'm starting to miss having mine here to work on, I might have to get it back here and start doing some work on the old girl.

Nice work, that's a tight squeeze in there with that mishi radiator.

The turbo kit has been wrapped up! All of the fabrication is complete: manifold, wastegate dump, down pipe, and lower IC piping. There are no modifications to the car, for the exception that I needed to run a Evo 5-7 radiator.

Re: Mark's Evo IX MR Winter Projects

A little update:

I completed the oil lines for turbo. I primed the oiling system while the timing belt was off the motor, installed a new timing belt and completed the front of the engine. Filled the trans with fluid. I installed Avid racings poly motor and trans mounts offering, they look great but the passenger side mount raises the engine up about ¼” of an inch. So I fabricated a 1/4” spacer to account for the design flaw. I cannot believe how much garbage companies produce without and verification & validation testing. Just a tiny bit of due diligence would make customers 100% happier. I installed the Magnus V5 and Boomba TB too.

Next steps are to fabricate a slim line fan mount on the radiator, upper intercooler pipe, intake pipe.

Motor mount on passenger side was off by a 1/4". The manifold works very good on my 1G so I was inclined to use it on the evo too. Yep this thing is going to be nasty!!

Thanks for the comments! I will be showing more progress very soon! I need to get the camera out to the garage! Next steps will be to fabricate the upper intercooler pipe and the 3.5" aluminum exhaust with 2 mufflers to keep it quiet.

I'll be interested to see how quiet you can make it. As that is one of my goals for this season.. make the 1g 3.5" exhaust as quiet as humanly possible(willing to sacrifice a little hp for less sound).

I was pretty happy with my old 3.5" system with the two mufflers, although it was still kind of loud. I need to quiet my current 3" system way down, I just don't like that fart can crap anymore.

Re: Mark's Evo IX MR Winter Projects

Quick update, it’s getting closer! Servicing the turbo kit is going to be a pain in the ass due to the downpipe. I cannot snake it through with all of the turbo/manifold/WG/radiator components in place. I need to remove the WG then snake it up through the bottom to connect it to the turbo. There was not enough room to fit a V-band close enough down before it makes the bend to the back of the car.

Yea I know what you mean. I'm debating installing one of those electronic controlled muffler on my other Evo. I had the chance to listen to one installed on a 3" TBE on an Evo and it sound OEM! The cost is a little high but worth it in my mind. At least it gives you the option to be "normal". My only concern is road salt fucking up the actuation and electronics controlling it.

Yes, I'm using thermo-tec wire jacketing to protect the coolant over flow line and WG line. I'm also wrapping the down pipe up, to protect the WG. I already wrapped up a section of the manifold to protect the starter wiring.

Today I fabricated a new mount for the ethanol content sensor. I also cleaned up wiring and finalized the intake manifold.
