Standards, like functional/non-screaming power steering and brakes that I can trust? Yea, the bar is pretty high there! LOL!

I just wish I had one more week before the dyno day, so much to do! The next two weeks with this car are gonna be insane. Oh well, you'll have to come out to the weekly meets, or check it out at the cookout :) Pics online cannot show you how beat up the body really is :( This thing truely is a beater!

Sure we couldn't fit a paint booth in your garage? :draught2:

Woulda coulda shoulda. Mint ones are tough to find too, unless you wanna *really* travel, and then the price can go way up. I could have easily spent $29k + travel expenses on a really clean one, but whatever, I'm happy for now :)

3/4 Rota P45F's were left intact after the crash, one with a few scratches and curb mark, but it was straight and the tire was good, so I kept it. I ordered one new 18x8.5, 37offset P45F from wheeldude.com and one new Sumitomo HTR ZIII from tire rack. The tires on the other rims had about 300-400 miles on them, so I figure should be good to go.

Thanks Ricer Pete (polishmafia) for mounting these for me! Maple Grove Goodyear FTW!

Lots of doubters/haters, but I think they suit the car just fine :)

Also, I had wired in my V1 to the dome light, but it seemed to be killing the battery, even though I'd unplug it each time I turned the car off. Fun fact, that is a computer-controlled circuit, so it lets current continue to flow and the battery drains away. Thanks rosey for helping me route it down to the cigarette lighter! Now it's on/off with the ignition too, woowoo!

The wheels look good, but they could use a little more offset. I can't wait to see this thing in person!

Agree.

Re: beaterX project thread

LOL IDK about spacers, I kinda like the tubbed look! :D Spacers will just start to give it the matchbox/micromachines/mexi-ricer look (I think). Simple and subtle is my goal. Maybe like a 10mm spacer? IDK what sizes these things come in.

9" wide rims would have helped too, but meh, these were basically free.

TkrPerformance 05-14-2010 12:07 AM

Re: beaterX project thread

we can see what my spacers make it look like

4g63tcrazy 05-14-2010 12:42 AM

Re: beaterX project thread

I like how they add to the clean and simple look with the wing removed too. Now that I look at it some spacers should make it more flush and sexier.

Re: beaterX project thread

looks great with the P45R's.

I do agree with the others that less offset would look better, but it looks good as is

I think the wheels look good on the X. They flow nicely.

Sexy!! I like them, but id def add spacers to make it atleast flush. Needs more aggression. rar

I think 10mm would be close to ideal. Mine stick out enough to coat the side of my car with mud when I leave your house--10mm should spare you that. :D

Those would be P45Fs. The spokes on the P45R have a more radius look, they curve in toward the center where the P45F is flat.

Whoah, I washed this thing for the first time this morning...yeow, you can really see the paint blemishes now! I'll spray detail it too so they REALLY stick out tomorrow :)

Part of that has to be because it's black. Black is impossible to hide any imperfection's.

Only reason that I got out of a black car, was sick of cleaning it so damn often. I wish I would've gotten black/GG though.

Looks great, will look better with less offset.

Re: beaterX project thread

Those look way better than stock rims by far, but I agree that to be perfect they should at least be flush with the wheel wells. I also agree that you don't want them to stick out, that looks retarded.

Re: beaterX project thread

I saw the car at the dyno day today. A lot of the chips on the bottom of the rear doors and sideskirts won't come out and the one on the right quarter panel will need body work (obviously), but most of the other scratches will come out easily. Just let me know when you want me to come over with my buffer and I'll spend a few hours getting most of it out.

4g63tcrazy 05-15-2010 09:19 PM

^^^Can you buff the dents and scratches out of my car from the deer that ran into me? Haha. Your car looked sexy at the DD! I'm really diggin it.

Kevin 1G Drummer 05-16-2010 02:28 AM

Re: beaterX project thread

Thanks Andy. I can't really buff dents out, but some scratches are pretty easy to get out, as long as they don't go through the clear coat (or color coat if it's single stage paint).

I didn't examine your car, but it looked nice from what I saw, those wheel look a lot better in person.

While sticking out more might look more aggressive, the way it looks now seems really understated to me, i think a bit more your style.

Thanks! I think you're right, and I think I'll just be leaving them for now. In person they seem just right, and I don't really want to dink around with spacers, just one more thing to go wrong, LOL!

When I got home Friday night, I waxed it with some Meguiar's QuickWax. Nothing fancy, but I think anyone that saw the car yesterday will vouch for me--it made an INSANE difference! This car just needed a good detailing to clean it up! It still has some rough spots, but those will be addressed soon enough. Wow I can't believe how good this thing looks now!

HAHAHAH You're welcome man! I'm starting to get comfortable in this car, can you tell? And it ain't that fast in a straight line, so that says a lot. Can't wait to get another 100whp on this thing :)

I also saw it at the dyno day, and looked good!! I love the p45 series rims from rota, if I could squeeze p45r's on my car, I would. Was also nice to finally meet you!

The car feels solid, and handles really nice.

Swifty: "Careful Scheides, don't flip the car."
Me: "Yeah, I don't want to be upside down."

Haha ;)

Re: beaterX project thread

Stop calling this thing a beater! I was expecting a ton worse when I rolled into dyno day and stopped to check the car out. Besides some small scratches that are hardly noticeable, and the rock chips on the rockers, which are normal, its in good shape.

It drives real nice too. :) Me likey!

I am going to have to concur with that ^.

It may have looked rough when you got it...but after some TLC and a good waxing, it isn't really a beater anymore, lol.

Thanks for letting me take it for a spin. Car felt great, looked a lot better than I expected this 'beater' to look. But what was up with your country twang polka crap that was on the radio when Me and Peter got in? We were laughin pretty good when that stuff came on!!

Thanks, I am slowly getting the rough edges worked out. Like I said, I cannot believe how much of a difference a wash and good careful waxing made. Rock chips and scratches, remember this car isn't even two years old!

You're welcome :) I figured out what happened with the radio--Sirius has four sets of presets. I have been just using set #1 with some pop, hip-hop, and techno stations on it. You said you had hit the 'mode' button on the steering wheel, which doesn't control the traction control or anything, it controls the radio! it goes AM-FM1-FM2-Sirius1-Sirius2-Sirius3-Sirius4-AM-FM1-FM2...and so on each time you hit it. So, I'm guessing it was on Sirius1, you hit 'mode' and it flipped to Sirius2, which I can only guess what was on it, idk if I've ever used it!

Ya its slowly turning into a non-beater. There's still some spots that need love, so stay tuned. Thanks for the compliments guys, the biggest thing that makes me happy is that I let like 10 people drive it, they all had their way with it and it is still happy. I feel like the tires/rims/suspension/engine are all solid, time to start modding :)
