Re: New dsm to minnesota?
If you did the basic 5 speed swap (ecu, 14b, 450's, m/t fpr) with a fuel pump rewire and 15psi, your car will be plenty quick and you will have plenty of RELIABLE fun. FWD or not. I ran that setup on my old talon and it was a blast to drive. I also drove it from IL to MN every other weekend.
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
I just dont want fwd, and thats why i havent done anything to mine, so i want to buy an awd thats the only reason im selling my car
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Well I can't argue with you on that.. Haha.

I looked at a lot of other cars before buying kevin1g's gsx. Everything from 240's to WRX's. I did a lot of thinking, and A LOT of waiting and ended up finding a car I absolutely love. Yeah, I could have bought a car a lot sooner, but I waited it out, and it definitely paid off. |
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
yea and ill be looking, i found a really nice 1996 blue one with 80,000 miles and is pretty much stock but my dad won't let me get a black one so those are out and he will literally talk to the person we are buying the car from for like half a day to make sure its a good car
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
lol, no black? why?
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
You see every little flaw, it gets dirty extremly. We just aren't big fans of black, love them when they are cleaned but just get dirty super fast
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Fair enough! You looking local now?
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
In the surrounding states too yea the blue one is in Illinois I believe.

I'm in the process right now of moving from my 90 Laser into a 91 Awd talon. If anything, find an awd shell and start the swapping game. You have more than enough time before next winter. |

It's not as easy as a 2g. |

I meant moving all your parts to the awd but no, the tunnel is left alone besides welding in bearing mounts for the driveshaft. The 1g fwd to awd swap is just the same as swapping a colt or mirage. The reason it makes no sense is if you're going to do that amount of work, why not weigh a lot less? |
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Oh I see. I thought you meant awd swap. My bad.
Continue on. |
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
thats why i just want to buy a awd i dont have the time or money to convert it, and once i get the awd then ill start putting nice parts on and modding it out...tastefully though ha not too much
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
It would make no sense to ever convert a FWD to AWD when you can buy a half decent AWD shell for $500 most any day of the week.
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
^SPeaks teh truth.
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
I'm planing on getting this one, what are some needed aftermarket parts to make it better, and about how much to do so.

Re: New dsm to minnesota?
What are your goals?
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
full exhaust, boost controller, 3pod gauges on the a pilar (don't know what ones), bov...bigger turbo?
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Then do that. Billet 67 is whats hot.
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
How much is all that stuff gonna be running me
|

Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Well I'll try and get that blue one then save for awhile then try and see what I can get then start modding but like I don't know what I need if like I get something for it then like supporting mods. I am not the most mechanically inclined person.

Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Look at peoples project threads, study up and if you have a chance to help someone do it.
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Bump
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
why the bump
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
no idea i was bored
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
And wondering what else I could do to make my car perform better at a reasonable price. And what some things do because I honestly don't know.
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Research, research, research. (emphasis on search). Your end goals should determine the parts you buy. If you want to go really fast, or if you want a fun reliable daily driver.
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Well I will need a dd because it would be my only car but I want to be sneaky quick kinda like a sleeper, like woah that car is quick!
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Quote:
The current car you have has the potential and is definitely a sleeper. I haven't researched much on auto dsm's, but I'm sure they can be just as fast. What are your plans for a modded dsm? straight line? auto-x? 'highway' roller? What you are searching for is already out there so my only advice is: search, search and search more. |
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
Yea I know my car is great but I don't really want fwd. But what do you mean by money?but I'm sure I want speed and reliability.
|
Re: New dsm to minnesota?
power and going fast=lots of money and upkeep
