Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

SO..

today i spent about an hour at map getting things together and this is what i bought ..

wiseco pistons 8:3:1 cr 20+
eagle rods
acl race main and rod bearings
arp main studs
oem 2.0 crankshaft
balance shaft elimination kit
new aem wideband 02 sensor
$1298.00

was thinking about those wossner pistons but i haven't been able to find anything about them ...

before i picked up that stuff at map i went and got 850cc injectors and the snow performance kit methanol injection stage 2 ... thanks red-line nice 35r .

planning on taking out the engine this weekend or next weekend will post pictures

Nice list. Only comments I have are why did you need a new Crank? Also in my opinion you probably could have gotten away with stock main hardware and saved some money by not getting the ARP's. But to each their own, good luck man! The more fast purple 1g's around, the better :)

Sounds like quite a list you got there, good luck

That turbo looks like it has blown seals. Exhaust wheel is wet...but if you need a t3 turbo manifold, I have one. Ramhorn style made by Punishment Racing.

i needed it cause i think mine is thrashed cause its knocking map sold me one for $ 280 +( its going to need a polish )
the arp's i thought would make my engine stronger and safer.yeah i could have saved some money on a few things but i have the worst luck when it comes to engines and i just dont want to cheap out on some parts and be broken down some where.

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

I hear ya. I'm still on stock main hardware so that's why I think you'd be ok too. But if it's worth it to you to get em, then more power to ya! Better safe then sorry isn't a bad mindset.

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

$280 for a 6 bolt 2.0 crank that needs a polish?? Are they getting hard to find or something? I got one from them about 2 and a half years ago for $75.

Constant_Project21 02-10-2010 01:28 AM

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

Yea damn...that's a hefty pricetag for a stock crank.

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

i would have sold you a stock crank for $50

Dont you need to line hone when you use arp main studs?

Maybe, maybe not, depends on your exact block. ARP mains aren't needed for most builds, but they are probably cheaper than getting a new stock set of main bolts for the non-reusable ones on the 7-bolts and Evos. I would do some ARP L19 or A1 H11 headstuds before even doing rods/pistons. The heads usually start lifting before you even reach the limits of the stock rods/pistons in a 6-bolt motor. And normal ARP head studs are next to worthless over the stock bolts in DSMs/Evos.

Thats true, my last set of arp's stretched really bad and caused my cometic HG to split on cylinder number 1. I'm planning on getting the L19's this summer.

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

i have to upgrade my head studs ? i just got these. haven't even seen 300 mi or even 20 psi of boost .

Halon 02-10-2010 08:27 PM

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

If you plan on running the boost neccessary to make 500hp on DB's dyno, L19's would probably be a worthwhile investment.

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

There is a huge thread on dsmtalk talking about how shitty the standard ARP headstuds are. Stock 6bolt head "bolts" are actually stronger than the standard ARP's.

way2fastalon 02-11-2010 02:13 AM

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

:angryfire: dammit:riped: anyone want to sell me some L19s

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

now that you know to talk to craig at oreilly's and use are mitsustyle discount you could have saved a ton of cash on all the parts you just bought. with are discount there it is cheaper than any local shop

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

so today jahaan dude stopped over here as i was pulling my engine out and might upgrade my turbo setup my e16g is not looking too good its amazing what a 100 mi will do to a turbo it has shaftplay now and dident before when it was first installed and looks like it was eating something .. not too happy about that it had an air cleaner and everything was tight dont see how that would get chewed up

so going to try to upgrade to an fp green and an evo 3 mani

Trust me, if I had a car to work on, I wouldn't be on here right now! haha I've heard some great things about those FP Greens.

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

whats wrong with jahann dude. ?

he is a great guy spent a few hrs over here today pulling apart my engine checking out the damage . ive seen a few pictures of the turbos he has built i know some people have there grudges here and there Ive heard all the story's as far as i can see he knows what he is doing everything he says makes perfect sense we going to be bringing my block out to motors by gosh
next weekend to get all cleaned up my e316 is sorta smoked not to happy about that . going to need a new wheel .

anybody that is knowledgeable on our engines and cars ill take any help .
i can do the work it will just take more time as i have to read more on how to do the work right by myself unless there is volunteer help available like jhann dude that is helping out . and i take that and will return the favor :)

asshanson 02-14-2010 05:57 AM

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

If you're getting a real FP Green, have FP rebuild it, end of story. It's worth the extra $150 to have a real company do it, trust me. I've heard good and bad stories about jhaan, and never run one of his turbos personally, just that I have found it's good to have turbo companies rebuild their own turbos (past experience with other companies). BTW, you won't be getting 500whp out of a green, not sure if you're still shooting for that goal.

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

Jhaan (julian) is definitely a very cool guy to work/help you with. I've got about roughly 4,000 miles on his rebuilt e316g. It still pulls very strong.

Ive also heard good things from Jhaan dude. Making a post like this without details is kinda shady. you should really post details or put it in the good guy/ bad guy forum to get it worked out.

Looks like you should have spent more time painting the block. I see alot of over spray. Purple looks pimp though!

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

its crazy, all the people that have negative things to say cant even spend the time to spell my name right...its jhaan_dude...

i have spent alot of time helping put his motor together, following the books every step of the way. its been alot of fun working with someone who has a open mind on things and is more than willing to learn.

hopefully in the next couple of weeks it will be completely installed and ready to go out and get tuned. just cant wait to hear it fire up!

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

I'd say that as long as he spin balances the shafts/wheels up to a high enough RPM, then I would trust his rebuilds. Be surprised if he did that though.

balance shafts are gone dude

thing turns over really nicely

jhaan_dude 03-05-2010 07:56 PM

Re: 1991 talon 500 hp project

he meant the turbo parts, and yes every turbo that has signs of contact to the housing is rebalanced and cleaned up. if anyone wants balance sheet for the turbos i build i have no hesitations as to providing them

pretty sweet man and lookin' sweet. Julian is definitely A++++x2,000,000 when helping out. What turbo are you planning to get? I was going to say the FP 68HTA...but i see your 500 hp goal. good luck man!
