we run slightly softer springs than we really should, the sways actually help. (actually if you look at some heavily prepped rally cars, such as CPD1, you'll find they use surprisingly stiff sway bar set-ups - and not in the stock location either)

Re: Rally Cross

Believe me, I know all about the importance of sway bars. I wouldn't even think about running a car that loosely sprung on tarmac without some thick bars. I'd just like to see what happens when someone does, is all. :D

But then again, I suppose that cage helps a bit with chassis stiffness.

Re: Rally Cross

I'm sure Matt will do just fine at rallycross.

Maybe when he does come out to a rallycross it won't be icy and raining!! And he won't be riding in a CRX!!

Seriously it would be good to see ya out there. I was going to run all this year in the MR2, but I've put too much work into it to run it around on the dirt. I ran it last year and just couldn't quite get it to hook up right. I gotta practice, but I want a different rwd car for it.

And BTW, I have taken FTD before at rallycrosses as well (well shared it with Jim Cox)! So every dog has his day. Even Mark U will tell you he is not immune to being beat. I wish I had a 1g again to run around out there. But for now I will sit on the sidelines and watch everyone else. Unless someone with a RWD would let me borrow their car. And not be too upset when I beat them in it!!

That was a rough day... I've become more resistant to the elements and have learned to plan ahead for unexpected weather since then. :)

Re: Rally Cross

That's good!!

Honestly I can say that I have seem some very good autocrossers come over to rallycross and whoop up on some good drivers. Don't think that just because they have never competed on dirt that they can't be fast at it. I poke fun at autocrossers all the time and they poke back. But both disciplines take time and talent to master. I have great respect for all competitive drivers no matter what surface they run on. I just prefer to do my racing in the dirt.

Re: Rally Cross

alright, so who is coming this weekend? Getting my snow tires mounted up in the next couple days!

MATCHBX 06-23-2009 07:59 PM

Re: Rally Cross

I'll be there but I'm not gonna be driving (that pesky safety stewarding duty that I talked myself into). I wish I had a car right now that I didn't mind using out there. I'm selling the MR2 right now so I don't want to use it out there. I need to find someone to share a car with.

cmspaz 06-27-2009 12:02 AM

Re: Rally Cross

My boss decided last minute that she wanted to open on Sunday, so it turns out I'll be showing up after all.

Any possibility of someone letting me share their car? I'd be more than willing to share the cost of gas.

Re: Rally Cross

My buddy would probably co-drive with you in his civic :) The black one with no windows and the roll cage.

Sadly won't be making it

Re: Rally Cross

I may head out with the camera later. Woke up yesterday with a fever of 104. Back to normal now, but my body's still really out of whack from dehydration and whatnot.

Re: Rally Cross

Awesome time. I feel like a better driver with every event. I got 2nd in SA.

Constant_Project21 06-29-2009 01:50 AM

Re: Rally Cross

My clutch magically decieded to work, was getting mad over boost because of a hole in the tube between my wastegate and j-pipe. Tossed a mbc on it and problem solved. Sucks that I had to find out on the day of the event..haha.

s1ngletracker 06-29-2009 11:44 AM

Re: Rally Cross

If your clutch was slipping before, its just a matter of time before it starts slipping at lower boost though. It is on its way out.

Constant_Project21 06-29-2009 11:49 AM

Re: Rally Cross

Yea but wouldve been good enough to beat the crap out of it for one day. Getting replaced regardless.

Re: Rally Cross

well get on it so you have no excuses for the next one! :P

Re: Rally Cross

Next one is going to be at Corcoran Lion's Park on August 2nd. That will be the National challenge series event. Awesome surface and a fun venue. I heard rumors of a "garage sale" for car guys possibly going on at that time. Watch for more details as they develop!!

Well I have plenty of time then..haha

Re: Rally Cross

Never think that way about fixing a DSM!!! They always find something to go wrong at the worst possible time. Get it done so you have time find the next problem!!

s1ngletracker 06-29-2009 01:26 PM

Re: Rally Cross

The only thing I managed to break yesterday was my cruise control, no idea how that happened. Was driving home and went to use it, just didn't work. Boo!

Constant_Project21 06-29-2009 01:27 PM

Re: Rally Cross

Psh who need cruise control? Lol or ac for that matter

s1ngletracker 06-29-2009 01:27 PM

Re: Rally Cross

I like my creature comforts. Just charged up my AC too, so yesterday in the starting line I was nice and cool.

Constant_Project21 06-29-2009 01:29 PM

Re: Rally Cross

Both of those parts don't even exist on my car anymore. Abs? Unecessary. Still have power steering though.

cmspaz 06-29-2009 05:50 PM

Re: Rally Cross

ABS is unnecessary. Especially since the DSM variant sucks major balls.

AC, hell, most fully prepped race cars have it, so why shouldn't mine? I use cruise too, when I'm driving alone. When I'm in a group, I generally opt out.

Matt D. 06-30-2009 01:50 PM

Re: Rally Cross

Of course none of you should have AC, power steering and cruise control. Because you all drive race cars.

I drive a POS? My car only comes with three pedals, and cruise control isn't even an option. Must mean I drive a race car.

Re: Rally Cross

For as many race cars as there are (by that definition of not having cruise, ac and such) on here, we should have better turnouts at the track................................(let the sarcasm drip!!!)

Most people are afraid to drive their cars, let alone race them.

Haha I would drive my "race car" (no ps or ac) at the track if I had the time.

Corcoran Lion's park is located just outside the loop, just west of I494 and north of Highway 55. This event is the closest to the metro, and a really short drive for all the westies on here.

The surface is gravel and some clay, not grass over dirt.

The venue is designed for events, so spectating and parking are excellent.

The event is a National Challenge event, which means that contingency payouts are available. This means that if you're driving a VW, you could actually win money. I'm sure more information will be available, but you could look on scca.com for RallyCross contingency programs and that'd let you know what's what.

You don't need any special tires to run at this venue. In fact, I've run a WRX on hig-performance summer tires with good results.

FYI! One change from our standard events is that EVERY run will count!
Honestly, if I wasn't leaving town that day, I'd run my car. Anyone who wants to try it, this is the event to do it at, the venue isn't going to destroy anything.
