Re: Project AutoX domination!
Is this the 3/s you found though me?
|
Re: Project AutoX domination!
Yes it is. It has quite a few new parts on it though, but it was a good deal and thank you for the hook up.

Re: Project AutoX domination!
OK, I'm trying to decide on wheels. So far I'm looking for cheap(er) wheels, $1k tops (shipped) for a set. I'm looking at 17x9.5 or 17x10 sizes. I've got these two kind of picked out for price and resonable weight. The 17x10's will most likely need fender cutting and flares to fit, the 9.5's MIGHT fit with some minor rubbing.
5 Zigen FN01R-C 17x10 These would be just under $1k shipped, new. http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...s_2027_7314014 http://www.5zigenusa.com/products/wh...rc/lineup4.jpg http://www.5zigenusa.com/products/wh...chot/hv_mb.jpg Rota P45R 17x9.5 These would be about $750-800 shipped. Might require some spacers in the front to clear the brake calipers. http://www.rotawheels.com/images/products/p45r_1.jpg http://www.rotawheels.com/images/products/p45r_3.jpg http://www.rotawheels.com/images/products/p45r_4.jpg Other suggestions that come in these sizes and price range? Which ones do you like? Color? The Rota's I'm kind of up in the air on color, the 5Z's I like the silver more. |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
The 5Zs are super played out, but still waaaaaaaaaay better looking than the rotas imho.

I'm also going to make a note that these will be used for AutoX only and maybe a track day, as they will have my Kumho V710's mounted on them. In the future they might end up with normal tires, but for now the plan is for competition use. I just found these, but the offset is a little off, I would have liked a +25 or 30. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-NEW...QQcmdZViewItem |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
Check out the used wheel selection at www.memoryfab.com
There might be something in your price range and in your size there. |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
Well, I have ordered a transfer case brace and parts to build a controller for the dual runner manifold. I also have some air filters picked out for my intake pipes, just need to order them with my gift card + a few $. I have also 90% decided on the FNO1R-C's. I found some 17x10.5's that I could get for about $650, but they weigh ~29lbs a piece. Stock my car has ~27lb rims, but the 5Z's are only about 21lbs, an upgrade and what I want/need at the same time. Only down side is the extra bones to buy them.
|
Re: Project AutoX domination!
How much of a price hit are the 5Z's?
|
Re: Project AutoX domination!
They really aren't too bad, the original cheap place I found them they were $216 each + shipping. I found a place that is running a sale right now for $187 each+ shipping, I hope the sale goes long enough for me to round up the cash, I wasn't planning on buying them until a little later. The other rims I was looking at aren't that much cheaper now that I found a better price.
Really the only question is Titanium Bronze or Silver: http://www.5zigenusa.com/products/wh.../hv_bronze.jpg http://www.5zigenusa.com/products/wh.../hv_silver.jpg |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
If you go with the bronze, you will be like everyone else.
|
Re: Project AutoX domination!
Bronze on green might be a fairly distinct look.

All black would look cool too. Silver is nice as well. I recommend silver.

Ryan, be wary of Rotas in low tolerance areas such as brake rotor and suspension clearance. I've read numerous posts and seen a picture on EvoM where people with Rotas have had the wheels hit their calipers because they flex so much under lateral stress. |

Re: Project AutoX domination!
I've seen the stuff on Rota's as well. Never seen anything bad about P45's though.
|
Re: Project AutoX domination!
I love my p45's! I haven't actually seen anything wrong with any rotas, only posts about people saying they 'had heard' this and that. Rota and suby/wheeldude.com joined into a few threads and posted some lists of competition cars that ran Rotas. Just my $.02 :)
I run the P45F's on my car. They are very similar, just not as concave. 8.5" wide vs the R's 9.5. Rota is making a 10.5" wide rim now for the X, you should see if one of those would fit :) |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
I'm pretty well set on the FNO1R-c's, though I was looking at some 10.5" Mustang replica's, but they were heavy, ~29lbs. With the 10's I might be able to get away with just rolling the fenders, the 275's are on the smaller side of what you can put on 10's. I've seen 18x9's with 275's on a 3S, bones stock no rolling or mods.

Negative camber is your friend.

Re: Project AutoX domination!
I ran about -2.6 in the front last year, it might have been a little much, but my tires wore fairly evenly.
My electrical bits for the intake manifold controller showed up yesterday, I'm working on building it today. Need to run to radio shack right now and hope they have the right size capacitors, I bought some wrong ones. |

Re: Project AutoX domination!
lol, that's some hard work to not buy a car in that game.

Re: Project AutoX domination!
It just seems wrong to put a real tire (RE-01R or slick) on a cheap cast wheel. I'm all for either the Rota or the 5Z for street use, but think of the cost if one failed at an event. That's my two cents. That being said, if you really have your heart set of 17" cast wheels; I'd say at least take a gander at the Gram Lights 57D
|
Re: Project AutoX domination!
From what I can find they are only available in a wussy 17x9 in which case I would keep my $free99 stock 17x8.5's. Show me a 5Z FN01R-C that failed or a Rota P45 that failed WITH A FULL STORY (not just a pic of one that some girl nailed a curb head on at 50 mph) and MAYBE you could get me to think about spending the extra $ on Ray'$ wheels. Show me 10 of each and I will buy Ray's with out question.
I'd go for the orange if I got the 57D's. http://www.rayswheels.co.jp/emenu/da...040_57D/01.jpg |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
Victory is mine! After a few issues with the trigger side of things, it's done! I haven't tested it on the manifold yet, but my VOM tells me it's good.

Re: Project AutoX domination!
AAAHHHH!!! I got good news today, I'm not getting laid off (at least until the economy gets even worse).
But I am now about ready to go crazy. I found these: Enkei RPF1 17x10 aprrox 17lbs for $1050 shipped. http://www.enkei.com/jpeg%20files/Wheels/RPF1(17).jpg The only problem is that I can't confirm that they will clear my calipers with the size/offset I want. There are people running them on the 3S and EVO. My specs should make for as much clearnace as possible, but... I found the FNO1R-C's for $810 shipped... Indecision! |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
spacers.
What does the manifold controller do? |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
Quote:
The controller is for the dual runner length manifold I want to try. Edit: I ordered them. I think the issue is people trying to run high offsets to avoid having them stick out. But with a 10" wide wheel the highest I can go is ~24mm anyways. Any higher puts the rim into the strut. |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
low offsets would make them stick out given the same width.
|
Re: Project AutoX domination!
Your right, I meant high, fixed.
|
Re: Project AutoX domination!
My wheels showed up today! They clear everything in the front just fine so I'm good to go. They do stick out a bit, but that was expected. I'm willing to solve any issues that causes be any means. Pics
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/PICT2001.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/PICT1996.JPG And my non calibrated scale confirms the 17lbs, these things are light! |
Re: Project AutoX domination!
Sweet :). Needs moar rubber though :).
