That thing was clean at the Dyno Day, a damn sweet WRX that is for sure! I loved the interior.

I'm glad the tint went to Janelle even though I REALLY wanted it. That car has zero tint and will look even better once it is tinted!

I told Matt before I pulled my own name that if I got to do the 'Name Dat Powa' I was gonna say 210! But at the last second I said 217 thinking it was a little low.

Oh well, I guess the guy who said 218 after me would of said 211 and most likely won it. Next year if you all do the same thing, everyone should write the power they think on a piece of paper and hand it in, just my two cents.

Stock catback (2.25" and resonator) vs. SPT catback (3" w/ open muffler):

Stock TMIC vs. STI TMIC (aluminum endtanks and about double the volume):

http://www.scheides.com/albums/janel...6755.sized.jpg

We also installed a [modified] air splitter and rubber seal from a STI so the WRX scoop is able to effectively feel air to the larger STI TMIC. We replaced the couplers with 4-ply Vibrant silicone couplers from MAP.

The exhaust is a few pounds lighter than stock, but definitely a lot better looking and more free flowing.

Janelle is very happy with the gains she picked up last night and she is happy with how the new exhaust sounds. Once the catless downpipe is on, the boost is raised, and she gets it dyno-tuned it should be a real STI killer!

Re: WRX Mods

It was pretty sweet not really having to do anything, we need to have the girls work on cars more often! In sum I think I helped them break one bolt free (from the cat to the catback--showed them the two-wrench torque-arm trick and they were good after that!), hughes got the last of the 5 exhaust hangers off, and then just double-checked the bolts on everything once it was tight. We also helped a bit with the STI TMIC install, but I think that amounted to helping trim the silicone couplers so that everything fit right. All of the tough, nuckle-bleeding stuff was done by the girls!

Man I hate wrx's. Sounds good though! :) Downpipe/testpipe next time?

Re: WRX Mods

I'll be getting a downpipe late summer hopefully!! Then a tune, and then I will finally be able to at least keep pace with all you Evos!

Thanks Anna and Scheides for your help! I am so terribly sore today though... I don't normally use those muscles in my shoulders!

I can absolutely tell I gained power from last night and as Chuckee (I probably butchered your name here) mentioned, you can actually hear my car now =) which is nice.

BTW, I'm looking forward to my leftover pizza for lunch!!

Gracias! Even though I'm thrilled I won the tint, and I can see your point with the paper thing... that kind of kills the point of the "Price is Right" theme you know? What about $1 Bob???

=) My tint appointment is set for May 29... so I should be better looking soon!

Ebay downpipe is up next; no testpipe though since both cats are in the downpipe which bolts directly to the catback.

Thanks! You forgot to mention how it took you almost as long to install your KVs as it did for Anna and I to get my exhaust in =P

I wonder if they would of allowed you to upgrade to the 'best' tint by paying the difference?

I'm not sure if they have different "grades" of film. If they do, their "basic" stuff is covered by a lifetime warranty so I'm not too concerned.

Re: WRX Mods

I got some tint pictures yesterday on Janelle's camera but I forgot to grab her cable so I'll post those up within a few days. Bad news though, we were driving on Hwy 100 when that hail hit Sat night and the STI TMIC took a pretty good beating (I think the body panels are fine at least).

DSM_421 06-01-2008 11:22 PM

Re: WRX Mods

Damn, stupid hail! Like you said, atleast the panels are hopefully ok.

You don't have anything like mesh between the hood scoop and the TMIC?

Nope, there is nothing like that from the factory. I was going to fab something before our roadtrip around Lake Michigan to keep the rocks/bugs out of it, but I hadn't done it yet :(

I think one of these evenings I'll have to straighten the fins the best I can with a screwdriver and then get some metal screen from the hardware store and some how attach that to the inside of the scoop.

DSM_421 06-01-2008 11:27 PM

Re: WRX Mods

Damn, maybe if it got beat up really bad might just have to put an eBay FMIC on it?

Naa she wants to keep it as close to "factory" as possible which is why she is using all STI and SPT parts. After I look at it a bit closer and try to fix the fins she may just have to submit an insurance claim (but I don't think its bad enough to warrant that). Why Subaru doesn't have some time of screen in place from the factory is beyond me. No matter what, over time they really take a beating from all the bugs and rocks that get in there!

DSM_421 06-01-2008 11:31 PM

Re: WRX Mods

Yea fins are actually not to tough to straighten out, just have to be patient.

Anyways good luck, car is coming along quite nicely!

mdost03 06-02-2008 12:19 AM

Re: WRX Mods

The owner of a shop in texas that I knew said a radiator fin straightener tool work great to straighten intercooler fins as well. Maybe give that a try first.

Re: WRX Mods

DSM_421 says: "Looks great, tint really completes the car!

Sorry to hear about the hail damage on the hood :(

That car is a true sleeper, exhaust tip doesn't shout out that it is turbo back which I absoleutly love!

Car should be an ego crushed to some guys ;) "

I'd like to add that it is only a catback exhaust at this point. The downpipe (all 3 cats are in the dp) will be replaced later this summer and then it will be time for a tune and more boost.

Kracka 06-06-2008 03:44 PM

Re: WRX Mods

Hail damage estimate = $2000+

Man sure glad i live south of the cities, no hail here FTW! On another note, that really sucks, sorry to hear.

I ordered up a set of Eibach ProKit springs for this girly beast so they should be on within a few weeks (in plenty of time before the fall cruise).
