Matt, by all means, give it a shot. I have actually since talked my girlfriend into designing it in photoshop, so I'm hopin' she'll pull through as well!
|
I say use forsfed's avatar as a mascot!!! LOL thats sweet.
|
I like all the logo's I have seen so far. Forcefed, yours is definately cool! It will be interesting to see what happens to it when a few people start messing with it. I do agre with Jana, so far Tyler's is the best IMO. It looks very professional and would look sweet on a business card and the signs. It is really cool to see all the designs you guys are coming up with. I know we all really appreciate the work you guys are putting in to it!

tO STEAL AND COMBINE A BUNCH OF IDEAS WHILE ONLY USING PAINT AS A MEDIUM, I MAY HAVE CAPTURED SOMETHING HERE, ALTHOUGH I COULD TAKE MY CAR OUT OF THE LOGO.
|
Tyler's would probably be by favorite so far...I also like Blake's banner.

not to dis on anything...
I went to school for this stuff. to make and design company logos as well as to knwo what is too much for a business logo. Yes the turbo thing is really cool but at the same time it associates a specialty to the shop. We all know they are into the turbo thing but at the same time people will associate that that is all they do. another thing is that the whole turbo in the circular letter idea is kind of played out in my opinion. When I was at school they kept telling us one major thing to remember...KISS. if you really want to know what that means I will tell you. But I am sure you can guess since the first 3 words are Keep It Simple. It is easier for other companies to recognize a business logo when it is simple and professional looking. As well as does not look like something over done. by having the turbo in the Q can draw away from the actual letter and the name of the company. The turbo in the company logo overpowers the rest of the graphic. this is strange saying this...in my professional opinion (yes I do have a degree in this stuff, advertising/marketing/public relations) stick to a non-graphical business logo. Lettering choice is just as powerful as a graphic. Two pieces of advice. outlined/semi outlined graphics or lettering draw eyes to the main focus of the piece. it gives a border of focus to the eye of what needs to be looked at. for example. write a sentance or a word on a piece of paper. then write it again with an outline around it. you can read the outlined word or sentence faster due to the fact that your eyes now have a defined bordered area of focus (there is a lot of studies on this, if you want the info I have it). another thing is to use connectivity. connecting words and or letters helps aid in the flow of reading as well as flow of thought. Read a sentence in Times vs. a sentence in arial. times is a sarif font and arial is a san sarif font. that means there is a lil line notch at the top and sides of the times letters. that can aid in readability cause it gives the eye a path to follow. now sometimes though that can be a drawback in graphical logos due to that you want a person to focus longer on the graphic but not too long...especially if they are driving. long enough to imprint the logo in there mind but simple enough to remember. sorry if this bothers anyone or makes someone feel I am dogging on there stuff. Like I said, I went to school for this so I have a wealth of knowledge about it. I stopped the other design because I was trying to do the graphical turbo thing but it draws away from the name too much and it takes the focus off the entire company name and places it all on the Q in which TURBO having a T for a first letter causes a shift in focus on the company name as well since the company does not have turbo in its name anywhere. peace. |
Tyler, my thoughts exactly. What you've said is exactly what a good friend of mine has told me many times about graphic design and logos. He has been in graphic design and animation for over 15 years and is damn good at it.
If you all don't mind I would like to ask him and see if he has any spare time to whip up something. |
I agree with all of that as well. I would love to see what else people come up with, but in my mind, it will be Tylers or something very similar that has this goal acomplished. I do want to see a blue version just because that is one of the consistant themes throughout the shop so far.
Matt, definately have your friend pop up his ideas as well. It couldn't hurt. |
No problem Mike. I will switch that graphic over to blue for ya. Shouldn;t take me more than 5 seconds when I get back home today. expect to see it around 7:30 or so.
|
Mike that was my fault. I accidentally replied under Shanes name. whoops. thats my post above this one under ecoli.
|
I like your logo for it is simple and to the point, and I see what you're saying about everything in your post. But, all I was trying to do with the turbo is to make something original and eye catching like they wanted. I also thought that it made a statement that they are a performance shop (not dsm specific) and not your everyday repair shop. Turbos = go fast! Just my .02
|
Is this blue enough? :P
http://www.unix-networking.com/Vicio...lueTRfinal.jpg Simple and to the point. The turbo implies performance tuning, the roll cage implies fabrication. |
I did these also to give you some other backgrounds to look at. I like these better.
http://www.unix-networking.com/Vicio...9QPRfinal2.jpg http://www.unix-networking.com/Vicio...1QPRfinal3.jpg I think these look more professional and give the image that the business will be around for a long time vs. some over done "cartoon" looking design. ;) I like the way the turbo somewhat "mirrors" the Q and the rollcage somewhat "mirrors" the R, somewhat. :P |
can I critique you on your thoughts there?
Mike sorry I didn;t get a chance ot fix the graphic yet. I wil do it as soon as I get home. I have been fabricating stuff for this 300Z tonight so that kind of consumed my time. sorry. It will be done within the hour. |

LOL. Behave, well since neither of you can BAN each other (Tyler works at Elite and Miek is a lead) I say go nuts, but maybe less talk and more work. Ok, I'm just gonna shut up.

So what do you think of those? |

Nice work man :) |
the logos look good for a website. There is too much for it to be an actual business logo. Let alone you need to be careful with where you get your images from if you are going to use them for a business.
good overall designing I would say though. the images draw you away fromw the business name thus making it harder to impregnate the name in your head if you were driving by it or if you took a glance at a card or something. Look at any business that is suceeding and see that there logos or images they use to represent there company are very simple and focus on the name of the company. It is all about making the memorization or implanting of the image in a viewers head. You want it to stick there. Again still some good stuff. better suited for a website though. thats my opinion. funny I could actually say that is my professional opinion now that I have my degree in it and have experience under my belt. man that is weird. Here is that logo I did in the blue you asked for mike. if it is not to par I can adjust it. |
Here is the red one for comparison.
|
those 2 look real good... :jammin:
|
Looks excellent Tyler, Thanks for adding it.
|
simply perfect tyler.
Looks awesome, I think we have a winner..... :toast: :jammin: |
Let me make one tonight so dont pic a winner yet hold off till tonight... it wont win prolly but just want to see... I have a cool idea.
|
the fact that when i look at tylers, i immediatly imagine a business card or shop sign has made me decide to not enter any new designs. i think he's right in his posts and his message is embodied by the logo he designed. if it aint broke, dont fix it. ...or in this case, if it doesn't suck, dont replace it. good work tyler. :P
|
thanks for the props guys. But remember those of you who also entered. I went to school to know how to design things like this and all that. you went up against a person who is in the professioanl field of doing this. I was pretty impressed with some of the thoughts that came out in here. good work back to you guys.
SORRY THis IS TYLER POSTING UNDER SHANES NAME BY ACCIDENT. -xrtdac |

Heres another... Simple yet effective. No need for props in a logo name or business name. And I am not a prffesional just to clarify... ;)

Here's a couple of others I did without the images for you "purist" out there :P

http://www.dsmstyle.com/forum/upload...1067333503.jpg I want to thank everyone who submitted an entry, but we have decided to even put down any of our own and go with Tyler's submission. I think the only think we would like to see is what it would look like with a black background. Can you do that Tyler? We are going to use it either way and Tyler is the winner of the $50.00. Congrats Tyler. And thanks everyone!!!!!!!! |
Well since that one won, can you atleast fix up the rough edges on the big Q,P,R? They arent very smooth, looks kinda rough, otherwise I like it.
|
Will do. I should have it done by tomorrow all cleaned up and stuff.
One issue with the black background. Do you want the colors to be the same. If so I would have to blend the blue haze further in. otherwise I would have to switch the blue fading to black into the blue fading into whit on a black background because the black parts of the graphic will not show on a black background well. |
Ok, i have a suggestion, make that blue to titanium silver or dark titanium... it will be good for darker and lighter backgrounds... this was suggested here by me Mike and Swanny.. while they are cranking away at puting the engine together and me typing away... LOL should se swany is sitting LOL

Wait, what's this, I lost again,......SON OF A BIATCH!!!!! :P |

|
So wait now you want a different color scheme on it?? let me know before I go in and perfect the hell out of it.
|
Go ahead and perfect the hell out of it. For the business cards it will be done in all chrome or gold on a gloss black background and have writing on the back that is black or blue on white. Beyond that, I am sure the blue/black fade is good. It would end up on most likely a white sign at the shop as well as other promotional type things.
|
Will do. I'll try to do it in gold or silver on a black backgrnd as well.
What day do you need this fully completed by? |
I want to get to printers and have the cards started like maybe on Monday or Tuesday so that would be the goal. Of course if it has to take longer, it can but that is the date I think we are shooting for to get the cards started and get the signs quoted.
Thanks Tyler |
