I have been trying to walk that line between street car and max performance. I have had a sub in the back of my car most of the time. It is just stripped right now getting ready for the cage.

Old Man Hill doing it again.

And I do agree that was a very clean shell. Great to see it going back to normal. Besides the auto seatbelts.

Ha, you've got it backwards. I'm earning money selling off more expensive parts for cheaper parts. Weight=speed=money. I've added weight but subtracted money, and the speed thing? Well, I never got any slips worth two bits anyways, so if I can make any clean pass ever, I can't get any slower than my previous best, so who cares if I added 300 lbs back into the car. The only thing I'm really putting in my car is a lot of time, but I've always done that.

Where do you get Canadian seatbelts? And what kinda stuff needed for a complete swap (minus the interior trim pieces). Do they just bolt in two places, and have one spot where the spool for the belt goes? Probably where the track motor is huh.

Goat Blower 10-22-2007 01:56 AM

Re: Comfort comes home-Project Lexus GSX

They bolt right in. The retractor bolts in where the motor assembly used to be. The upper panels are the ones you need since they have a hole for the upper mount and a recess for the belt to pass through. Then you need the female ends that go on each side of the center console and the rod shaped thing that bolts about where the lower belt retractor used to be. There's factory holes for everything so there's no fab work required, just two holes in the carpet on each side for the brackets. I might see if I can scrounge up the Canadian carpet as well so I don't have the extra holes. I got mine from a girl on NABR, I've seen them pop up on boards here and there.

Well, I finally got to take her out for a quick spin this morning. I've got a few things to take care of like a working 02 sensor for fuel tuning and welding a new bung for the wideband, but it actually drove pretty well. It was spooky how quiet it is now with the full interior back in and the dynamat, plus power steering and heat will take some getting used to. Once I get it running right, I can put it in storage and bring it back when I get time to put in a real stereo system and move on to my next big project, 3000 GT VR-4 or EVO brakes.

Not yet, that's probably a spring project. I do want to quiet it down just a bit and have the exhaust tip coming out straight instead of the 45 degree angle the Bushnuts system comes with. I always hated that look.

I'm adding another muffler as well. I just got a stainless Magnaflow 3.5" ID 5x9" oval that I'm going to add. I'll let you know how much of a difference it makes.

Global is at -72 based on the calculations in the Wiki, although it still burns my eyes so she's still a bit rich. I'll be tweaking it some more tomorrow. All sliders are zeroed out until I get a new 02 sensor and start working with the short and long term trims.

It's supposed to make quite a difference. Mike Rizzotti added a second to his 3.5 system as well and liked it. I'll probably go with an offset inlet oval since my only muffler is where the cat would be and I need to angle that rear muffler straight for the proper look.

Re: Comfort comes home-Project Lexus GSX

I think you'll like the second muffler. About two weeks ago I added a second bullet muffler to my exhaust, put it in right where the car would go and the original one is in the back of the car. From the outside the car is quite a bit quieter, but from the inside at a cruise on the freeway it is an amazing difference. Completely night and day. Doesn't seem to have affected power at all either.

Re: Comfort comes home-Project Lexus GSX

The additional muffler made a nice difference on Scheides' car, its not much louder than my Magnaflow muffler.

Re: Comfort comes home-Project Lexus GSX

I should mention that I put a Magnaflow second muffler in where the cat goes several years ago, it made a difference, but this new Vibrant muffler in addition should really quiet it down. I also just put in the last set of EVO3 lower 5th gear set, so that should get rid of some of the cruising drone as well.

Got the FP Green sitting on the shelf waiting to go in, this is one of the final pieces of more or less duplicating my old EVO set up on the GSX. Big brakes are next. :D

Just got a bunch of brackets and underhood stuff back from Powder Keg, as well as my RPF-1's. I hope to be driving it this Sunday if it's nice out.

What Brake setup are you going with? Cobra, Outlander, evo?

Well, a few updates.

-The new muffler didn't quiet it down as much as I thought, but just enough to realize I have a hole in the downpipe flex section. Time for a new one of those.

-Added the Evo3 5th gear, apparently one of the last available in the country, thanks Tim Zimmer. This might be the best mod I've ever done, 3000 rpm at 75 mph on the way to C&C this morning. No more drone.

-Noticed an annoying hum, time to replace one of the rear wheel bearings.

-Bought a super nice aluminum 4" CAI, but doesn't fit with my short route piping, this will be up for sale shortly. In it's place I was able to use the carbon fiber CAI from my old M3, fits perfect, problem solved.

And finally a few pics with the powder coated wheels and finished exhaust. :D

That 5th gear was one of the best mods to my my old car. I hope they go thru with making a 15-18% one that would be sweet.

The 5th gear sounds great, I want one. I'm waiting for the right recipe on a "quiet" exhaust! One of us will figure it out someday, but I really like the look of yours from the rear.

I wondered about that. I had a 944 where 5th gear was unusable til about 75 mph, this 11% seems about right. I suppose with the 2.4 and a regular turbo, you could get away with a taller 5th like the V8 cars.

I'll get there. This downpipe was used when I got it and a little worn out. A fresh new one from RRE should fix it. Plus, I've got another SS bullet muffler to add if needed.
