Re: Looking at bikes.
They have had a street bike version for a bit, there was a Duke and Duke II (620cc bikes). The bike has a ton of torque and is just supposed to be fun as hell to ride. They do look a little odd and get lots of stares from people wondering what they hell that thing is :D

Re: Looking at bikes.
Being on a Kawi for the last 2 years, I have to say I like them. I have a 01 6R and it is a blast. I would like to go up 750 or a 1000 in the near future. But I think I'll stay with the 600 until gas prices go down. Can't complain about 50mpg and the ability to outrun most anything on the road.
As far as longevity, mine has 56,500 miles on it and still running strong. I bought it with 45,000 on it and have had no maintanence issues with it except scheduled stuff yet. It's a very nimble bike. Very forgiving as well. I know most people don't like Kawi's but they do hold up well. Jet went out and looked at mine with me before I bought it. You might want to talk to him about what you should be looking for on a used bike if you decide to go that route. |

I love fast bikes but it gets boring after awhile. Learn how to ride a bike and get one that is balanced than you can have fun all day long at any speed. That is one reason I love my slow SV650S. It is a cheap bike but fun as heck when it comes to the twisties but yet will keep me out of trouble. I think my next bike will be a Triple speed though. I love the way they look. |
Re: Looking at bikes.
I really want to upgrade to a 1000cc. After riding with Kyles brother man did I want an R1 his bike is sick. (john - pricing on my bike after looking around would be around $6K)

Re: Looking at bikes.
Brian I will call you sometime this weekend, and I am looking for a 01+ 600 or 750 suzuki. I did want to take out a loan for a bike with a good down payment, are banks ok with loans on bikes? I know they have a cut off for cars and what not. I would like to spend less then $8500. Cell #612-328-6066 if anyone has a lead on a bike in this price/year range, thank you. Also JET would you be willing to look at a used bike with me if I go that route, I will buy lunch.

Re: Looking at bikes.
There are lots of bikes on craiglist, search around there also.

Re: Looking at bikes.
I will look.

Re: Looking at bikes.
Yeah, I can definitely check out a bike for ya. Bikes are fine for loans, but I don't know how old they go. I'll check out a few sites I know and see if there is anything on them.

I got pics of the 750 its black/yellow and looks perfect in the pics. ~John |

Re: Looking at bikes.
I too am looking into a bike. But I just very recently had a quick reality check though. One of our shop techs (crotch rocket owner) didn't show up to work on Tuesday... Be careful ya'll!!

Re: Looking at bikes.
Yeah, bikes get scary when a lack of self control, inexperience, or sometimes both occur. For the rider, AND the people around them
|
Re: Looking at bikes.
The people around me is what I am worried about.

Re: Looking at bikes.
I hear ya. My co-worker was "found" though. Wasn't an accident where someone hit him, and got called in right after it happened, he was Found already dead. He must have just been flying around on some side road late Sunday night by himself, then just lost control. Then the next car to drive past that spot called and reported it. People think they are always in control, but sometimes it's just not the case. I will still probably get a bike, but it is just kind of a reality check for me, not to push things too far, because one little mistake on a bike and things can turn out aweful. Such a young guy, but his little motorcycle mistake was the last one he'd ever get a chance to make.

Re: Looking at bikes.
Damn Brandon, that sucks. I've wanted a bike for some time, but I've always put off really learning to ride for my sake and for Jana's stress.

Re: Looking at bikes.
A friend of mine in his upper 40's who has ridden for the last 20+ years, and who is an active advocate for safe riding etc.. Was killed last November one Sunday morning around 11am. He was doing 30mph in a 30mph zone, when a lady coming head on in a SUV didn't see him, and pulled right in front of him. She was taking a left into a driveway or something, he had no chance at missing her, and he died on the spot. He was a very experienced rider with a lot of track experience both on bikes, and in his NSX and two 911's. It doesn't matter who you are, THEY JUST DON'T SEE YOU.
|
Re: Looking at bikes.
If you are worried about people not seeing you, there are headlight modulators that you can buy. They make the headlight blink so it really draws your attention.
Sorry Brandon, that sucks. That 750 does look like the best deal. The YZF 600 is not an R6 (it is the older version) and the Z1000 I would stay away from. The 600 for $5500 isn't bad either, but the 750 is pretty much the same price. |
Re: Looking at bikes.
FYI the 750 will wheelie all day long in 3rd gear. Normal riding I get about 140-150 miles on a tank of gas, so between 35-40 mpgish.
I say go for the 750 as well. It could get away from ya, as could a 600 or anything else with out some seat time, but as long as you know that why buy something you are going to want to upgrade later. Good luck and wear the gear. Dan (2005 GSXR 750X) |
Re: Looking at bikes.
Ya i want to post my R6 for sale but with the $2200 damage(had an estimate done about 3 weeks ago) from Josh. I would never get what I want. I really want an R1.
Jet can you chime in about racing? I've heard rumors that they only allow bikes under 750cc to race at like DCTC and BIR? for the fun days? is that true? what are the general rules? -brian |
Re: Looking at bikes.
I was looking at the new Suzuki V-Strom 650's and they are only about $5900 brand new. Not a bad bike to run around on.

Re: Looking at bikes.
Someone should talk to someone about a group buy! Or we should all go in together on some 'Buddy Plan's'.
I've seen lots of cheap Buddy Plans now-a-days. But i'm sure they're cheaper to buy in the fall/winter around here. |
Re: Looking at bikes.
The 600 for 5500 has a few mods, but I do not know if its worth the extra cash, there is a 600 for 4500cash/ obo, still looking.

Re: Looking at bikes.
Racing with the CRA is much different than most people think. I would get a dedicated race bike. There can't be any lights or anything on the bike. You can race the big bikes on the track, but noobs have to start out at 600cc or smaller. I would say find a SV650 and race in the lightweight class. I knew a few guys that raced their street bike for a bit, but soon changed their minds.

Re: Looking at bikes.
Buy barton's bike, that way swanny can pay the damage of bit by bit. and you get a bike finally.

I was just hoping to find a place I could learn to really ride my bike vs on the streets. Kind of like how I took a ton of road racing / scca class when I first got into cars.
would like to do the same with the bike I was really hoping dctc had events but again I only have my permit for now. would they even let me in? I'm thinking about replacing my scratched up muffler with something else. I've seen replacement slip ons for around $350 I like the micron Black/fade to blue. either that or a carbonfiber one, but that would be so I my passangers don't have to worry about getting burnt.. but the more I look at the blue/black one the more I like it. |

I really want the r1 model of this bike. the one that kyles brother is riding.

Re: Looking at bikes.
When I first started reading this thread, I was kindof excited about motorcycles, and now toward the end, I have decided that if I ever got one, it would be a 600 with a huge caution flag attatched to the back so people could see me better.
I think I will get a crx hf and lighten it for gas milage. |
Re: Looking at bikes.
Holy Christ. How much lighter could you make the HF? I mean they even came with aluminum drums in the rear for weight savings. Even the carbed versions from 85-87 were getting 50+mpg long before the Metro and others came out.
Go for an Si and lighten that. You'll get the same mileage and go a little faster. |

I used to own a Mystic Black 2003 Suzuki Katana 600. I put a Yoshimura full stainless 4 into 1 header and pipe, K & N filter kit, re-jet kit and a 5 deg timing advancer. It was much faster than the 750cc version of the same bike and was extremely fun and comfortable to ride.
But I have BAS (Bike Aquisition Syndrome) badly myself right now. I am looking at getting one of these in the sometime near/distant future. |
Re: Looking at bikes.
Thats the only harley besides the Fat boy that Arnold rode in T2 that I would own. Sweeeetttt.

Re: Looking at bikes.
