He has been a legal citizen for 14 years. Also, in Virginia, as long as you are a legal citizen and do not have a felony you can buy a handgun the same day you look at them. Unlike MN, where you have to have a permit to purchase and go through a lengthy background check.


There is nobody to blame but the person who did the shootings. I think the school officials could have done a better job of notifying the students during the 2 hrs between the first two shootings in the dorm and the other 30 in the classrooms. However, there would have still been people killed, this guy didnt just wake up and decide to kill people, he had to have planned it. There is no way a campus with 20k people could have went on 100% lock down without the shooter taking lives.

One more comment. The 2nd worst mass shooting/execution was done 40 years ago at the University of Texas in Austin by Charles Whitman. I wouldnt say this is anything to do with how crazy people are becoming these days. There have been crazy people all along.

The generation of Columbine and school shootings are now in college. theres something seriously wrong with that generation of students, its nuts.
Why cant kids seriously just go for help instead of getting in that mindset that they need to take out people with them.

Yea and in VA I was reading that he legally obtained the gun, they have more lenient rules down there, so it was legally bought.

I have read that he was a permanent legal resident. He can't be illegal or on a visa if he is a permanent resident. I think the media isn't wanting to come out and directly say he was a citizen.

Our recruiter at work just told me that her friend at Cargail was working on recruiting from VA Tech, and the person was one of the victims who didn't make it. :( Very sad. A lot of bright individuals were lost to one idiot.

Yeah the whole deal with Virginia Tech has made them bring up the Columbine (sp?) shooting again. They had a special on last night on MSNBC about it. I didn't know about the bombs in the cafeteria that didn't go off because they were built wrong.

If they had gone off they estimate around 500 kids would have been killed at Columbine. Crazy.

Obviously the kid that did this latest shooting was no idiot, he was only a week away from graduating. Sure he might have been picked on or alienated but who hasn't from time to time.

Playing the devils advocate here, I can see the girl getting shot because of jealousy or whatever. But what sense does it make to go and gun down 32 people that you didn't even know. By the sounds of it, he hated generally everyone at his school though.

The whole thing just makes me sick.

Well it turns out that he was not a citizen, he had a green card. Why the hell do we allow people with green cards to buy guns? The constitution is for citizens, not just people who want to stay here as a "permanent visitor". Alright, back off the soapbox for now...

In case no one saw this yet, He sent a video to NBC and photos. They have it on the CNN site. Fucking nuts.
Also they are still recieveing bomb threats at the school.

Last time i heard you had to be citizen to buy guns in mn, however, you can get a conceal and carry permit with green card and SSN.

Last I read, it was also illegal to sell to non-citizens in VA also and that's why they were looking into why he was sold the guns. This whole thing pisses me off.
