shitty dude. hope you can get her back to mint soon. that's a nice looking car

Re: New Beater

Shitty! It doesn't look too bad though, and you might not have to replace the core support, just pull it back out so that everything fits.

Re: New Beater

Man even for how much of a tank these cars are, the sheet metal still bends pretty easy. Hopefully it isn't too much of a bitch to get it back in line.

Re: New Beater

I was at work on my day off today to straighten out the core support.

I figured since I had the bumper off I'd throw on a larger Evo FMIC that I've had laying around for a while.

Old Ebay FMIC on top, Evo 9 FMIC installed on bottom

Sweet! Looks like the core support pulled out pretty easily?

Looks good Brian, how much of it is hidden by the bumper?

It's pretty stealthy. I was contemplating giving it a light coat of black.

I'll get a closer pic up later

very nice stuff man! I was also contemplating about painting my fmic black but alot of people and friends tell me that my fmic is totally sleeper because of the grill. lol...the way i love it!

Kevin 1G Drummer 04-07-2009 01:20 AM

Re: New Beater

I'd leave the FMIC the way it is. It's not like it really stands out anyways.

Re: New Beater

Got most of my new"er" motor put together tonight. It's a stock rebuild motor with around 8-10K miles on her. Can't remember milage as it was rebuilt 7 years ago.

Did a balance shaft delete and some other random shit to it over the last 2 nights. Tomorrow I get my head back from Gosh. The head had some porting done by Steve at HeadWerks back in 02.

The motor (and head and cams) are out of my old Laser from way back in the day. The long block had been sitting in my garage for about 4 years minus the WebCams I stole from it to put in the Galant a while ago.

Do you guys think I should paint the block and pan(Orange)while I have it out? I Degreased it and I think it looks horrible.

Re: New Beater

I say paint the block black ;)

1QUICK4 06-26-2009 12:55 AM

Re: New Beater

If I paint it, it will be Hugger orange with a little black for contrast.

I painted my mad tyte JDM valve cover. I'll post pictures tomorrow. I don't know if it will look good having most of the engine orange though

what did you use to degrease that bad boy?

Would the orange paint be to match your hair? :rollinglaugh:

CarRacer 06-26-2009 07:31 PM

Re: New Beater

I painted my block machinery gray. They stock it at NAPA. I think orange would be a little loud in an engine bay. It's your car though and you don't really see much of the block anyways when its installed.

Re: New Beater

That looks pretty good. You can see a fair amount of the engine in the Galant. It doesn't hurt that I don't have P/S or the front motor mount/power steering bracket. As soon as I get another alternator relocate bracket you'll be able to see more.

My head showed up today and I said fuck it. I'll let 'er buck on this motor and paint the Galant's original block (orange) when it gets rebuilt.

Re: New Beater

Here's what the valve cover looks like. It's not done yet. It will have black lettering

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...on/crap003.jpg

I painted some mounts and trim pieces black. Below is one of the rear timing covers

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...on/crap004.jpg

I think the orange with black accents could look good? Maybe I'm a ricer???

So, did I read that right in the shoutbox a while ago, your 50 trim is shot huh? let me guess PTE SCM50?

1QUICK4 07-03-2009 11:41 AM

Re: New Beater

Yep, PTE 50 trim is blown. There is probably 3 quarts of oil in my exhaust.

NOOOO!!!! That thing had some good history. Sorry to hear dude, especially since you got it from me :( I don't think I'll ever run a PTE thrust bearing turbo ever again. This just seems all too common nowadays. What's your plans?

scheides 07-03-2009 11:55 AM

Re: New Beater

:( sorry dude. post up the graphs you did get out of it before it blew!

Whats next then?

Re: New Beater

ARG. Another PTE bites the fucking dust. I myself am working out plans over winter. Dunno what I'll do. I don't wanna $$$ BB setup, but I wanna find something that will work, for more then 4 days. I drive the car now, and fear what is gonna happen to the pte again..

1QUICK4 07-03-2009 12:05 PM

Re: New Beater

I think I put 20K hard miles on that turbo since I got it from you Brandon. :D

The plan right know is to hopefully find a used Mitsu flanged replacement turbo. Or have this one rebuilt but it doesn't sound like rebuilding has been working to well for people.

It's weird though. She took a crap very suddenly as we hit the rev limiter. Nothing but thick white smoke and tons of oil out the tailpipe.

I'll post my graph Monday

yea, it happens. ARG! you should get yourself a nice HTA 3582

Re: New Beater

I had the pte 50 rebuilt 2 1/2 years ago and is still going strong in the evo

Shane@DBPerformance 07-03-2009 08:21 PM

Re: New Beater

Can't expect a few year old used turbo with oil fed from the wrong location and it going full blast all the time due to boost leaks to least for too long.

1QUICK4 07-03-2009 11:19 PM

Re: New Beater

I'm suprised it lasted as long as it did.

I'm going to have to find a 14b or 16g to slap on it.

goodhart 08-11-2009 07:04 PM

Re: New Beater

You don't still need a turbo for this sucker do ya?

http://www.mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24021

All the way at the bottom :D
