Re: Toms Project...
Lookin good man!

Re: Toms Project...
well its still not fully together yet. two late starts because of picking up parts and wrong parts and being much over budget. But oh well. I have to redo my upper intercooler piping because of the throttle body. I could have just switched back to the stock one but it puts a kink in that shitty stock flex pipe. I would rather do it right the first time.
So i am moving my goal to having it done by monday. |
Re: Toms Project...
You're making progress at least, I'm sure it will be a beast!
|
Re: Toms Project...
Looking good. I'm sure you're getting excited to get it done. Just don't rush yourself in the end because that's when I always make mistakes. And they usually end up being really expensive mistakes. Looking good though!

Re: Toms Project...
Its running fucking awesome. Its like a whole new car. Im going on tuesday to RRE to get her tuned. The 6puck took a bit to get used to, it engages fast, and its much lighter then the ACT. The tranny shifts fast and hard, i can slam it into gears as fast as i want and she just takes it.
Already got pulled over in her. But thank GOD they didnt pop the hood, or it would have been gone for sure. they actually didnt even give me a ticket. They pulled me over for a license plate light being out. They saw the laptop hooked up and said these exact words... "Is this your laptop?" "Yeah" "Why is it hooked up to your car?" "Its for fuel management." "Whats that? im not into all that" "It allows me to log and tune my car." "Ahh like on the fast and the furious" I almost shit my pants and bit my lip as i replied. "Yeah like the fast and the furious" then another cop said to the other. "Look hes got modified exhaust" "Yeah hes also got his car hooked up to a laptop like the fast and the furious" I could have punched both of them right then and there, but i got off with no ticket. and they didnt pop my hood. so i almost cried. |
Re: Toms Project...
Hahaha, dude that's hilarious. Glad they didn't pop your hood man. I didn't know cars could be towed away for having modified engines.
Crazy laws in California. |
Re: Toms Project...
LOL that is way too funny! Glad its up and running! Break in that clutch and tranny and change the fluid again after a couple hundred miles before you beat on it too much.
|
Re: Toms Project...
I don't think puck clutches need a break-in (some don't at least), but changing the fluid out after a few hundred miles is a good idea. Are you running the Redline cocktail?

Yes i am running the Redline Cocktail - 2 Parts MT-90 1 part MTL. As far as the plates go. Yeah i took off the plate and put a dealer plate on, my registration is expired (very much so) because i have to get it illegally smogged just so it can pass. But if i would have been in the same situation i would have gotten pulled over for no reg and then would have gotten a ticket. so it seems that the dealer plate worked. Im getting registered this week. |

Danger To Manifold!!!!
BTW make sure your diamondplate is bolted down securly, you dont want the bolts coming out and the floor flying out. LMFAO!!! |

Re: Toms Project...
Hahaha thats great Tom. Hope you like how she drives now.
|
Re: Toms Project...
Ok, so i managed to sum up the whole cars life within the first 24 hours of it driving.
First was being pulled over within the first 2 hours of it driving. Then i took it to work and went on lunch, came back and it was running fine. Got off of work and the fucker wouldnt start. I checked everything. Was getting spark, had gas, fuel pressure, and the pistons were wet. Then i looked at the timing, WAY THE FUCK OFF. I dont know how this could have happened but it was running fine when i shut it off. But anyways, it was towed home. So today i have to get a timing belt and tensioner. Fucking dsms. |
Re: Toms Project...
How did you go about setting the TB? Did you use the drill bit method? That works the best for me.
Sorry man, that really sucks. |
Re: Toms Project...
I did it when i had the motor out.
I lined up the crank at 10 BTDC, lined up the cam gears and oil pump gear. I pushed the tensioner in with a vise and dropped an allen wrench in the hole. Then installed that and pulled the pin after i had the belt on. it was dead on 10 btdc when i installed the motor and made sure it was. Im thinking it was either a faulty tensioner that just gave out or it was a bad belt. I am just hoping i didnt bend any valves. What is the easiest way of checking the valves without pulling off the head? |
Re: Toms Project...
Compression check is a easy way. Or the only way I can think of. Good luck man I hope you did not bend any valves.
|
Re: Toms Project...
How did you adjust the tensioner pulley? Did you adjust the tensioner pulley?
|
Re: Toms Project...
Its an auto tensioner, isnt it?
|

Re: Toms Project...
You need to torque the tensioner pulley to so many inch lbs also. Good thing you motor isnt toast!

Re: Toms Project...
Maybe 30 degrees or so.
I basically made sure the belt was tight but not too tight. When i was trying to start the car it was not backfireing like it usually does when the timing is off. |
Re: Toms Project...
Rut-roh... That sounds like at least 2 teeth and at 2 teeth the valves are usually goners.
|
Re: Toms Project...
well im crossing my fingers on this one. i remember when looking down the spark plug holes i didnt see any damage to the pistons.
In looking at the vfaq i did not use the torque tool, on the tensioner pully. i just figured that there was a auto tensioner for a reason, to AUTO tension the belt. |
Re: Toms Project...
It is a hydraulic tensioner, not an auto tensioner. It will take up slack as the belt wears, but it needs to start in the correct position.
